I am a Christian. I call myself conservative. I vote for Republican candidates, and helped elect (and re-elect) George Bush and his dad, with my vote, and my pocketbook.
I am tired of the people who know what is right. I studied the Bible in a formal setting (Bible college), and have been brought up with the teachings of the church.
Why is this hysteria taking place? Is it because a Florida judge has ruled on a valid law, or that we disagree wth him and that law? Are we taking a biblical approach to this situation? Do we believe there is a God?
People are threatening Michael, like he is the angel of death. He's not. He's a guy that has loved a woman so much that he has taken the abuse of thousands of professing "Christians' who have no real interest, nor an accurate knowledge of the events taking place. I read where he spent years of his life trying to get some help for her. Now, he is a beast, since he has decided to let God have her...
We have portions of both sides' news, and positions being dispensed. We are led to believe, by the "right to lifers", that she is ready to get up and walk. Her parents say she is speaking, but doctors have said that it is not possible, she has no reasoning capability. Nurses eport that he tried to murder her with insulin, tyet, even the cops don't believe them. Of course, your histrionics are going to change her situation...
I don't know. I can't make the decision. I don't want ot be faced with a similar decision (but I have a DNR set up).
I do know that there is only one entity that can change her condition. He is our Heavenly Father. His Son is honored in our corporate memory tomorrow.
I have read of people making comparisons of Terri to Jesus in His sacrificial death. Please spare us that one.
I have seen that people expect the courts to join their delusions about her condition, and fly in the face of that reality when it is face down...
Get a grip.
God is still in control If Terri Schiavo is so important to you, as a believer, you should be spending your time on your knees... not browsing the Internet. God doesn't sign on here...
James 5:7ff-
7Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord's coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains. 8You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord's coming is near. 9Don't grumble against each other, brothers, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!
10Brothers, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11As you know, we consider blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job's perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.
12Above all, my brothers, do not swearnot by heaven or by earth or by anything else. Let your Yes be yes, and your No, no, or you will be condemned. The Prayer of Faith
13Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. 14Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. 16Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
As I recall, John the Baptist used some pretty strong language. He even called that sweet little Salome a harlot or something like that. I'm sure the good, law abiding people of the time thought he was very nasty.
Despite your saying things that may well be true, this is not a news post. It is a vanity post, your opinion, and doesn't belong in News/Activism.
Many posts taking the opposite position have been moved, and so should this one.
Doctrine has changed over the years and change is not always a bad thing. I wish your father a long and healthy life.
well, crap. never mind.
When the "differing opinion" is that in support of murdering a disable human being, how can one expect to *not* see "vitriolic asperisms" against it?
BTW, those siding with Greer are being Nazi-like.
"Get lost, coward.
"
Not your job to tell people to get lost here, or to write personal insults.
My grandmother checked herself out of the hospital. They wanted to hook her up to all sorts of things, run a battery of tests, keep her sedated. She was 92 at the time, was as sharp as a tack and lived in her own home. A couple months later, she had a massive stroke at home and died 5 days later.
We did the same, on the doctor's recommendation, with my husband's aunt.
There have been articles in our paper of families who have made the same decision to remove the feeding tube from their loved ones and this case is tearing them apart because the less rational among us is making them feel like monsters now! That's outrageous!
And you have no idea how many freepmails I've gotten from other posters who are AFRAID to post their stories of removing feeding tubes from their loved ones. They are literally afraid of the mob mentality on FR.
I had no idea that people didn't know this was going on. And trying to tell them, they call you a liar first. Then if you give them some articles to read, they call you a murderer.
Thank you for sharing your story openly and Godspeed.
That's what people tell terminally ill people.
Maybe Terri doesn't want to be shoved off the planet by Michael.
Her husband was a respiratory therapist and they likely talked often about different patients he cared for. So do ya still think there's no chance it ever came up?
You are correct about a feeding tube only. I'm talking about removal of the feeding tube AND not allowing the patient so much as an ice chip.
I imagine they are still in business. Take a spin down there next weekend or hey! Try their godless Eaaster special tomorrow!
I don't think that's true at all. I haven't been following this case closely at all over the past several months or year and I'm in no way a religous fanatic. Yet for some reason that I cannot explain, I can't seem to get Terri and her sad predicament out of my thoughts. Putting the legal aspects of the case aside, what they are doing to her just seems so very wrong on a human level.
Mumia Jamal
This may backfire on the leftist . For if we are told not to have compassion for a innocent mentally challenged woman, why should we have compassion for a convicted cop killer.
Bingo! There is no discussion including the family's incompent lawyers. I read the pleadings last night and the court rulings. I was impressed with our federal judges and their refusal to become activists judges and instead rule on the law.
Reasoned discussion has gone out the window and name calling has begun. This reminds me of FR when I first came on and almost left if not for a few Freepers.
Terri's parents pleaded to the court to let them take her home. They could have cared for her. I have had a student in my class who was tube-fed. It isn't difficult to do. They wanted to do it but her "husband" refused. So blame him for the expense. And if you get on the net and read more about the case, you can see that Michael Schiavo didn't report Terri's wishes about not wanting to be kept alive until AFTER he received all the money from the lawsuit. Before that he appeared to be a dutiful husband. After that, he wouldn't even allow therapy for her, so her muscles wasted away. He wouldn't allow a swallow test, so she HAD to be tube fed. By the way, if she indeed couldn't swallow, she would be drooling and would have to be suctioned all the time so that she wouldn't choke on the saliva. I haven't seen any drool in the pictures of her; and she isn't being suctioned. So she CAN swallow liquids. Why do you suppose her husband wants tube feedings? So that he could WITHDRAW them!! AND she will be cremated without an autopsy? WHAT IS HE AFRAID OF? It's pretty obvious to ME!!!!!!!!
"should have been allowed to die years ago."
That's an insult to severely handicapped people.
Certainly makes one wonder why he didn't give Terri CPR the night she collapsed. Did he call 911?
I thought so too..
