What's a lot worse than triple strand concertina? Cholla cactus. I can breach wire barriers; I don't F with Cholla. It looks soft and brushy, like pine needles, but it will penetrate anything you'd be likely to wear, like leather boots. The needles come off in you with the slightest provocation.
Nasty, painful but reasonably good looking at a distance. It grows itself, doesn't need repair, and thrives on benign neglect in the arid border regions. Plant a belt of it along the border, and you'd need heavy equipment to open a gap in it.
A suprise from ABC - a nice piece that shows some reality.

The border crossing at Naco should be closed, and entry to the USA should be possible only through Douglas to the east or Nogales to the West. If the number of illegals then continues at the present pace Douglas should be closed and the next border crossing should be at Juarez/El Paso. Given the great number of illegals that enter through the Toono Oodham reservation the crossing at Sonoyta should be closed -- which would have a tremendous and negative impact on Puerto Penasco/Rocky Point tourist area. In all cases the Mexican government would scream bloody murder, but the only way to get its attention is with a 2x4 across the temple.

That's not a dig at the French. The Maginot Line is the ultimate symbol of a seemingly strong but futile defense, so the writer is implying that our defense of our border is likewise futile.
It's not really a very good comparison, though. The Maginot Line was not breached, but skirted. Also, the storyline is a lot different. The Maginot Line stood unchallenged for some time and inspired a false confidence in the security it seemed to provide. Our border with Mexico is and has been so porous that it inspires not confidence, but frustration and outrage.
Well, freepers are probably not surprised at all.

This our country not the dumping ground for the world.
You have to defend what's yours. If Tyson Foods and all the others who provide the jobs to these people really want them here, then let them (the employers) do the work to bring them here legally. Most of these companies have do not tell attitude towards this, fine the heck out of them.
The wink and nod BS that goes on with this stuff really does need to change. We really do need to defend our borders, we are a bunch of pansies if we don't.
OK my rant is over, reading this story really paints a disturbing picture.
That's what the smugglers want. The land will then be bought for cheap by more collaborators to be used as a smuggling conduit, just as many border properties are today. But these folks are tough, and don't have "run away" in their blood.

Who's going to be stupid enough to buy their home? I seriously doubt those people who live along the border have realtors foaming at the mouth to show their properties and I'm equally sure that most of them can't afford to just walk away. They're screwed unless and until out wonderful government deigns to uphold the law.
Reading this makes me even more pissed about these illegals who take advantage of us. I sure as hell would have started shooting long ago if I lived there.

Where did you find this article? I don't watch any news channel but FOX but if I had known they were going to release this story I would have watched ABC just this once.
Also, being in the mountains we don't get any radio reception so we can't listen to Rush. I guess I could put up some kind of high antenna.
