Free Republic Military?

I just read a post on conservative blog that stated few freepers were veterans (implication was that we were chicken hawks). Having conversed with many of you and met a few, I do not believe that is the case. But it did get me wondering, who among us is active or prior service veterans? Awright you freeper vets SOUND OFF!

Did you know Kerry was in Vietnam?

Really! He should of mentioned that, it might of helped him get elected.

I did a bit over 3 years in the Army right at the end of the Viet Nam era. 1974-77 Then I did 5-6 years in the Army Reserve as a NCO academy instructor. I was an E-7 when discharged in the middle 80's.

The only combat I saw envolved intoxicated GI's in the bars of Grafenwohr, Germany while I was over there helping to protect the free world from the scourges of the godless communist.

Never served.

My father served in WWII; was quite active in the VFW. Had a chance to meet quite a few of the veterans he called his friends. They were, and still are, some of the most honorable men I have ever had the fortune of meeting.

When my father passed away they honored him with a beautiful ceremony; one which I shall never forget.

I never served; due to the sacrifices of these men it was not necessary. If I had I could only hope I would have been half the soldier these gentlemen were.

If they wish to label me a chicken-hawk so be it. Their words, nor their actions, will never stop me from supporting those who defend our homeland and our way life.

To those who served, to those who serve today, you have my (and my family's) unwavering gratitude.

May God Bless and Protect our President and our Troops as they bring the fight to the enemies of Freedom!

I have a nephew how joined the AF when I was getting short, he wrote me a letter right after he was done with basic asking me why I only made E-4. I was working with a bunch of short timers so we got together and wrote a group reply to him informing him in great graphic and VERY obscene detail just where he stood in the food chain, and several suggestions of where he could go and what he could do with himself when he got there.
