Sony Corp. unveiled three flavors of its new PlayStation 3 video game machine Monday in what is likely a new round of console wars with rivals Microsoft Corp. and Nintendo Co.

The new machine, set for release in the spring of 2006, is about the same size as the current generation PlayStation 2 but has a more rounded look. Besides black, the PS3 will be available in silver and white.

Sony officials said the PS3's new processor technology called Cell will offer high performance for movie-like realism in games, high-definition movies and other features.

"The PS3 is truly is a system to be placed in the center of the living room," said Ken Kutaragi, creator of the original PlayStation console as well as the more recent PlayStation Portable handheld.

Prices or a specific lineup of games that will be available were not were not provided, though Sony showed off numerous demonstrations of games in development.

I was thrilled to buy a basic 4 function calculator in the summer of 1973 to augment my slide rule for my freshman year in college. Radio Shack had a big sale for $110. The "rich" kids had HP-35 calculators. Professors managed an HP-45.

You know, Saddam had guys buying up Playstation One's when they came out in hopes of making a missile defense network out of them. Never heard if he had any success with that.

If you notice this thing's specs read pretty close to a good computer's. Thats why I quit buying console systems - I assembled a multimedia computer. If you like the old school games you can install the M.I.M.E. program (if your familiar with programing concepts) or just suscribe to the free "Console Classix" service. That one lets you play Atari 2600 and 16-bit Nintendo titles free while the Genesis and Super Nintendo titles are available for a small fee. No Atari 5200 the last I checked (Space Dungeon ruled!).

What to do with the Nintendo Classic, Sega Genesis, 3DO, and Playstation in the storage room? I figure they'll all be new again as I descend into inevitable senility!

It appears to me that Microsoft wants to go to wireless controllers because it doesn't have any ports and the controller appears to be wireless as well.

I wonder what this will do for multiplayer on Halo? No more system links?

Check out THIS! : http://sports.ign.com/articles/613/613583p1.html

Madden NFL 2006: You get "Superstar Mode".

Basically you take the individual role of a College Recruit.

First you pick your parents... who they were, what were their hobbies, what careers did they take up...

You need to answer a (timed) psycological exam... asking "if you had the choice, would you be a cat or a dog?" and "have you ever killed someone?"

All of which dictate your eventual resutls in "The Draft".

You need to find an apartment, and pay for it, and have to deal with possibly 'career ending' injuries.

Sounds pretty cool..

Unless I tear out the fireplace, 42" is as big as I can fit in the living room.

I started with Intellivision and the TRS-80 from Radio Shack.

As for the NES, some of those games and some of the old PC are IMO better that most of the stuff out there today. (Major exception being the sports games)

Wowow...check this out!!

Dual HD Output

If you are fortunate enough to have two 16:9 HD displays, the PS3 will support a panorama 32:9 viewing mode that will span both displays.

Shweet! More technology info! *claps hands happily*

Is silver the color for consoles this year?? Seriously, this thing is silver, Xbox360 is silver. If the Revolution is silver -- creepy! O_O

(To top it off, I have a silver Gamecube. Oooh, shiney.)

Jeezuz... 32:9

I always thouhgt VR would come from the novelty of "VR".

It seems its soon becoming a 'solution' to insane resolutions and "physical" space.
