AOL Downloads ^

Posted on 08/25/2005 12:46:05 PM PDT by benjibrowder

Welcome the next generation of Internet browsing. AOL has built upon Microsoft® Internet Explorer technology-the world's most widely used-and raised it to the next level. AOL Explorer has enhanced security and more time-saving features than any other browser. Built-in pop-up controls help protect you against annoying pop-ups and Spyware Quick Scan makes your surfing safer. A host of new tools, like Tabbed Browsing help make you more efficient. New AOL Explorer is the leap forward in browsing you've been waiting for.

I wouldn't have it, but it decided to download itself along with AOL instant messenger. I'm kind of thinking about referring to to Microsoft as spyware. The moment they said they built upon Internet Explorer's technology, it completely killed it's later statement to be a safer browser than Firefox or Opera. I want to include screenshots, perhaps I will. I don't know yet, looks like I'll be using photobucket.

This is one of those stream-of-consciousness things, isn't it? Not to pump it up too much, but it has the feel of Joyce, or perhaps later Faulkner, about it...

if it has activeX in it, then any safety statement is a farce.

What is this an Ad for AOL? First of AOL blows chunks. Firefox is the way to go. IE7 when it comes out will deserve a look.

No!!! I'm saying it's a piece of crap. It was an article intended to say that AOL has decided to join the browser wars, and it is packaging itself in AOL's AIM software.

Basically, its a shell enhancement to Internet Explorer. Comes with tabbed browsing and other features.

Exactly what Internet Explorer 7 Beta 1 is supposed to be. They took Internet Explorer, redesigned the shell, and through it up as theirs. They probably still use ActiveX, etc, also trying to prevent spyware by incorporating some anti-spyware device that supposedly checks for spyware etc. What really urks me is the fact that it installed itself when installing AIM.

ActiveX are these pieces of software many sites say you need to have in order to view this page properly. Also, if you need to download things from Microsoft, you have to have it. If you update McAfee Antivirus, you need to have the activex control in Internet Explorer) Problem is, you don't really need to, and most times if you get an activex control, it is using your computer to phone home doing such things as sending keylogs(annoying) or sometimes taking screenshots of your desktop (incredibly annoying). Mozilla Firefox, Opera because they don't utilize activex controls, this doesn't happen. ActiveX happens to be one of Internet Explorer's biggest flaws. Which they haven't written out of IE7 yet either.

You had to approve it when you installed AIM.

I use Firefox. It crashes a lot on National Review online and sometimes on Drudge (bunch of commie pink-o's at Mozilla?) but other than that it's fast and a lot more secure than IE.

All I can say is that any software AOL touches turns to mud.

Microsofts attempt to take the functions of an open protocol and make it proprietary.

Is it good or bad?

Bad for security, bad for interoperability, bad for innovation.

Being that Firefox is free probably they do have leftist leanings. Any good capitalist would charge for this especially since it is superior.

I don't want any of you boycotters to delete Firefox just because I said this, just thinking aloud is all.

Also, IE7 is sucks just as much as AOL. If you really hate AOL as much as I do... then you should see this.

The only drawback to Firefox that I've found is that Yahoo games won't play on it. Otherwise it's great. Seems to support "SimGirl 2.3" better than IE does.....
