Hurricane Relief Idea -- Contribute Guns and Ammo to Law Abiding Homeowners!
Vanity Press ^ | 09-01-05 | cww

The one lesson the scenes of looting in New Orleans have hammered home is that the Founding Fathers knew what they were doing when they enacted the Second Amendment to the Constitution. They knew from experience that there is only a thin veneer between a civilized society and utter anarchy.

How many of us live in a city or town where we know that but for the precence of the police, we would be looking at the same type of lawlessness playing itself out on our televisions this week?

I for one am going to go out and purchase a shotgun. I'll be damned if I'm going to let some punk threaten my family and rob me a gun or knifepoint.

Seems to me that the best hurricane relief we can provide to the good folks of New Orleans and Biloxi, is a gun and some ammunition to guard what's left of their homes and business.

So thank you Founding Fathers for your foresight. We have looked into the belly of the beast, and it's not a pretty sight!

And businesses too.

I think the police (what few there are) should have orders to shoot to kill.

At this point, only martial law and the military can deal with the situation in the city itself. And I imagine that folks in smaller towns are mostly well-armed and capable of dealing with whoever tries to mess with them.

Comment: Mossberg 590 with the ghost-ring sight and 9 round magazine.

Told my husband last night we needed to add more ammo to our disaster kit.

He said "More guns too!"

He's right.

Living in Chicago, it terrifies me to think of what would happen to me if something terrible broke out in the city- a natural disaster or terrorist attack resulting in these conditions. Average citizens would be at the mercy of the thugs, since we cannot carry handguns.

Makes me want to move back to Iowa.

It's easy to criticize the looters when you're safe and sound in your home, and not hungry or thirsty. If you were dying of thirst and had a family who was starving you'd probably loot a store too.

Some co-workers and I were discussing this earlier this morning. I half-jokingly made the comment that in the case of some kind of disaster in my area that I don't have nearly enough ammunition at my home. I now think I shouldn't have been joking when I made that statement.

Give me a break. I don't have as much a problem with those folks seeking out food, water, diapers, ect. But it's a whoe different story when they are breaking into historic homes on St. Charles and walking out with antiques, jewelry, etc.

THAT is why you store NON PERISHABLE items and bottled water BEFORE it happens. You can also store water for six months in containers with 8 drops of household bleach (plain type) and then capped off. I bought 5 5 gallons COLLAPSABLE containers online and in a threat they get filled up. I have a trunk of rice, beans, etc, ready to be cooked over a small charcoal stove.

It's called BEING PREPARED.

Also, I have a lot of guns to defend the castle with.

I'd probably be focusing on food and water, not plasma TVs, jewlery, booze, and racks of clothes.

Apparently, Louisiana law (and Christianity, and common sense) distinguish between people obtaining food and water during a time of disaster by any means neccesary to survive and people stealing everything not nailed down due to a sense of entitlement. I REALLY hope that a lot of these looters are shot...

Maybe they're only stealing jewelery, etc so that they can trade it for food and other basic necessities.

How would you know who was a law abiding homeowner and who was a thug seeking to loot- you could'nt exactly drop guns and ammo from a helicopter.

How many Americans actually store food and water for emergencies? I'm guessing 0.0001%. Besides, New Orleans is a pretty poor area, most of those people live in apartments, they don't have room to store supplies.

Looting a store of food, water, medicine etc..., except by a few, is not being critisized nor what is refered to here.

We're talking of people looting TV's, VCR's, etc...and that is not justifiable as needed for "survival".

A Glock 17 like mine, plus several high capacity magazines, A Mossberg 590 or A Remington Marine Magnum 870 and a Ruger 10-22 for shooting little critters..that's my plan for domestic discord armament.

You really can get all the stuff you need short of the Glock at Wal Mart. They have numerous suitable shotguns, and ammo is reasonably priced. A couple of weekends ago our area store was selling 500 round bricks of Remington 22 LR hunting ammo for $8.00. You can get cases of 12 ga shotgun shells there reasonably priced and 9mm practice ammo is $6.99 a box.

I dont have nearly enough shotgun shells or 22 LR ammo. I need to get more.
