WAKEMAN, Ohio - Sheriff's deputies found 11 children locked in cages with alarms in a north Ohio home, and prosecutors are looking into possible charges of abuse and neglect.
The children, ages 1 to 14, were in nine cages in the walls of a house outside this city of about 1,000 about 50 miles west of Cleveland, according to the Huron County Sheriff's Office. They had no blankets or pillows, and the cages were rigged with alarms that sounded if the cages were opened, Lt. Randy Sommers said.
The children told authorities they slept in the 40-inches-high by 40 inches-deep cages at night. Doors to some of the cages were blocked with heavy furniture.

We need pictures. The word cage is awfully perjorative -- I have heard of similar "sleep pods" in Japan that people pay to be in. Sounds like the state is trying its case in the media. I want to wait until the facts are out before I come to a conclusion.
Hmmm...possibly why the authorities aren't sure what charges should be filed. Apparently the children weren't malnourished either. Sounds kind of sick to me...but this story doesn't really offer enough info to make that judgement.
nah, if they had been homeschooled, Protective Services would have taken them away long ago for being "abused"
Actually, they were homeschooled. Heard it on the news this morning. Makes it harder to catch things like this when no one around even knows of the childrens' existence.
Judgment needs to be withheld until the facts are out or risk becoming a bunch of common, ACLU-trained, gossips.
Bet we find out the parents were Christian-types & someone wanted revenge.

Lizavetta, I'm sure you'll be delighted to know that an earlier article DID mention that they were homeschooled. As a homeschool mom myself, my reaction was the same as yours.

My reply was knee-jerk. This site now has a significant number of people who think you don't have a right to raise your child as you see fit. I think they all read and subscribe to "It Takes a Village" or something. They think CPS doesn't have enough power. My God the ultimate government power is the ability to seize your child. In 47 of 50 states they can do just that and you don't even have the right to a jury trial!
Terrifying isn't it. Definitely this homeschooler's worst fear. I'll never forget a case out of NC a few years ago, discussed a bunch here on FR. A naked toddler ran out into the front yard chasing a cat and a passerby called CPS. A social worker went to their house and demanded private interviews with the kids, the family refused and they were in court for four years trying to resolve the issue. The case went all the way to the NC Supreme Court, who found for the family 7-0.
You don't have to be a homeschooler. The biggest mistake is to allow your child into the public school system. They own your child then - you just house them.

Perhaps you misunderstand me. I consider homeschooling to be one of the most blessed things I have ever done, and feel strongly led of God to do so. We are in our 4th year and I wouldn't change a thing. A little paranoid apprehension over the far reaches of CPS doesn't even compare to the peace I have about my kids not being subject to public schools.
Foster children are nothing more than cash cows for folks looking to pay the car note every month.
The two youngest are loudly fighting over a puzzle right now, while the oldest is working on history, frustration evident. :)
I understood you! I was just pointing out that public school is a high risk area for "government intervention". The home schoolers are also demonized repeatedly.
The fact of the matter is that it is a national disgrace that you are not entitled to a jury trial with your defense provided when your children are seized. It is also a national disgrace that some CPS funding is dependent on them taking and placing children.
