From Staff Reports
NORMAN -- An explosion near the University of Oklahoma's Gaylord Family-Memorial Stadium killed one person Saturday, OU officials said.

The explosion happened at the courtyard near the George Lynn Cross Hall, Botany-Microbiology Building on OU's campus, which is west of the stadium, according to Sgt. Gary Robinson of the University police department.

The explosion happened during the second quarter of Oklahoma's game against Kansas State.

After the explosion, police set up a perimeter of several blocks and made fans exit the stadium to the east.

Car part is true -- just came across our news. Bomb Squad is on the way to Parkview about a car bomb and also another complex is mentioned.

If there was anything to the car bomb rumor, I would link they would send more than just "a bomb squad member".

Nice find. Why would the issue of missing ammo be in the fraternity's minutes????

I'd rather not speculate UNTILL facts arrive, thats just me though .

If the story has been spiked, what makes you think the facts will ever arrive?

Bomb squad is on the way and the news is confirming they have evacuated the buildings because of car bombs.

I've basically heard squat about this on this national news

What's up with that?

Well, that is the $64,000 question.

I do have 2 technorati search hits on my blog's sitemeter so at least some people are looking for this.

That's odd.
OK, I just have a question. Would they be able to tell if the person killed actually had the bomb on them, or might have just been near where the bomb went off? I suppose I should have my tin hat on when I ask that, but it's in the laundry...

NORMAN, Okla. (AP) - A University of Oklahoma student was identified Sunday as the person who was killed in an explosion near a packed football stadium, authorities said Sunday.

The body is believed to be that of Joel Henry Hinrichs III, 21, Salvador Hernandez, Special Agent in charge of the FBI in Oklahoma, said in a news release. A student telephone book lists Hinrichs with a permanent address as Colorado Springs, Colo.

Hinrichs was killed when an explosive device detonated around 8 p.m. Saturday near Oklahoma Memorial Stadium, where more than 84,000 people were watching the Oklahoma Sooners play the Kansas State in a Big 12 Conference game.

There were no other reports of injuries and OU President David Boren said spectators were never in danger.

Officers cordoned off an area west of the stadium and no one was allowed to leave the stadium immediately after the blast for security reasons. Spectators who wanted to leave were allowed to go about 30 minutes later.

Boren initially said a police bomb squad detonated explosives found at the site of the blast, but later said further investigation determined that the second detonation was done by the bomb squad to ensure there was not a second device.

Investigators have no information to suggest there is any additional threat posed by others related to the explosion, Hernandez said.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Joint Terrorism Task Force, OU police, Norman police and the Cleveland County Sheriff's Office also are investigating the incident.

Thanks! Knowing the sources for reports is particularly crucial in situations like this, and I appreciate the clarification.

Meanwhile, I have archived that web page to disk, because something extremely suspicious is going on in this case.

The way this story is being handled by the press is as intriguing as the story itself.

Extremely suspicious.

Remember Berg was hooked into the Middle Eastern student mosque and he was a white American. Channel 53 broke in with the news about the Bomb Squads on their way.

My son tried the link to the guy's home page and it is listed as not available.

Maybe off topic--but remember the guy from Norman who tried to get on a plane carrying what they described as a pipe bomb in his backpack?

There are quite a few students who don't use their websites, so it's possible nothing has changed. It's also possible something HAS changed. No way to tell, unless you can find it cached somewhere, I suppose. I couldn't find it, myself, but there are better people out there to search...
