Fired CBSer Cries Foul (Mary Mapes: names FreeRepublic.com as "the birth of political jihad")
NY Post ^ | 10/5/5 | Adam Buckman

Posted on 10/05/2005 7:01:20 AM PDT by dead

October 5, 2005 -- THE producer at the center of last year's "Memogate" scandal at CBS News says she was derailed by a vast right-wing conspiracy.

The producer, Mary Mapes, is one of four CBS staffers fired last January in the wake of the scandal.

She is convinced she was the victim of a group of loosely associated Internet bloggers "with a harsh political bent" who pounced on CBS News minutes after the airing of the now-infamous Texas Air National Guard story on "60 Minutes 2" in September 2004...

"Within a few minutes, I was online visiting Websites I had never heard of before: Free Republic, Little Green Footballs, Power Line," writes Mapes...

"They were hard-core, politically angry, hyperconservative sites loaded with vitriol about Dan Rather and CBS."

"This was something else, something new and fundamentally frightening," Mapes writes. "I had never seen this kind of response to any story.

"It dawned on me that I was present at the birth of a political jihad."

I wonder if Mapes will ever figure out that it was only the "woman" who got fired? In typical liberal-elitist fashion, they once again got a woman to take the fall for their egregious act. Just as Clinton left Lani Guinere (sp) and Zoe Baird out to hang for themselves, the crew at See-BS has done so to Mapes.

Lordy! How is it that -according to Mary Mapes- a group of loosely associated Internet bloggers "with a harsh political bent” got her fired? I guess their “political harshness” is something most people can relate to. In other words, the Internet bloggers' political views are more in tune with the majority of Americans as opposed to CBS's politics.

It must hurt when the truth gets out.

>>"It dawned on me that I was present at the birth of a political jihad."

>Mary, sweetheart, you missed the birth by at least 10 years. In fact it began back in the '80's with Rush Limbaugh but the pajamahadeen have been around a lot longer then memogate.

I guess Rathergate is the leftist equivalent of 9/11, in that they (the left) finally perceived the opposition was organized and willing to engage.

I hope Mapes keeps on whining.

Between her and Rather the radical liberal MSM is exposing itself to a public they have scammed for seven decades.

Blaming Free Republic in her book and rants will greatly add to FR membership and influence and credibility.

"Getting Barnes to say yes had taken five years and I thought his interview was a home run."

This one sentence of Mary's speaks volume about the state of American journalism. It "had taken five years", but as she elsewhere emphatically states, it was "news" and it had to be rushed on the air. Would it be news if it took them another 5 years? 10 years? Why not? (Stupid questions, don't answer.)

Every excerpt I've read looks like this book could have been written from the perspective of eyewitness statements, not by the main player.

My theory is that there's two versions of the book. Which one she printed was determined by how much CBS wanted to keep certain items out of the public domain. Read that as $$$$$, and I think they paid causing the final version she spewed up for public consumption. Or she's just a complete moron.

Then there's the day the Democrats in Congress voted to de-fund the Cambodian army. That was a good one. Ended up as one of history's greatest mass slaughters ~ 1/3 of the Cambodian people ended up dead."
It should be repeated loud and often, The killing fields are the legacy of the left.
