Dobson is no less a politician than anyone else and fully capable of political waffling.

"God may be planning a political wind shift.."

Like in 1994, except this time the Republicans will be blown out of their current leadership positions in Congress. That's what happens when your base loses their zeal.

Christians don't need to be seen as pushing crony mediocrity.

That is the first thing that I thought of when I heard Dobson, Falwell, and Robertson endorsing Miers. Believers are to be seen as BEYOND reproach - not a hint of favoritism or a respecter of persons (James 2:1-9)

It is at least theoretically possible that Miers PROVES her conservative bonafides BEFORE November 7, 2006 - and therefore ENERGIZE both bases ; )

"What we are learning about Harriet Miers is genuinely encouraging."

There is some suggestion Miers was one of those who urged the administration not to aggressively challenge the University of Michigan’s affirmative action policy when Grutter v. Bollinger came before the Court. Of course almost everything I've heard about Miers is speculation. That's all there is in the absence of facts.

"What did Bush know and when did he know it? We're about to find out."

That is all privileged and she will decline to answer. That does not make for any better T.V. than Roberts saying he can't discuss cases that might come before the SCOTUS. Wake me when its over.

Oh one of my favorite songs, Sky Pilot,

He blesses the boys as they stand in line
The smell of gun grease and the bayonets they shine
He's there to help them all that he can
To make them feel wanted he's a good holy man
Sky pilot.....sky pilot
How high can you fly
You'll never, never, never reach the sky

He smiles at the young soldiers
Tells them its all right
He knows of their fear in the forthcoming fight
Soon there'll be blood and many will die
Mothers and fathers back home they will cry
Sky pilot.....sky pilot
How high can you fly
You'll never, never, never reach the sky

He mumbles a prayer and it ends with a smile
The order is given
They move down the line
But he's still behind and he'll meditate
But it won't stop the bleeding or ease the hate
As the young men move out into the battle zone
He feels good, with God you're never alone
He feels tired and he lays on his bed
Hopes the men will find courage in the words that he said
Sky pilot.....sky Pilot
How high can you fly

You'll never, never, never reach the sky
You're soldiers of God you must understand
The fate of your country is in your young hands
May God give you strength
Do your job real well
If it all was worth it
Only time it will tell

In the morning they return
With tears in their eyes
The stench of death drifts up to the skies
A soldier so ill looks at the sky pilot
Remembers the words
"Thou shalt not kill"
Sky pilot.....sky pilot
How high can you fly
You never, never, never reach the sky

Some how it upsets them, never could figure out why.

He also confirmed reports that he received a special briefing from Bush's political adviser, Karl Rove ...

That was indiscreet on Dobson's part. Sheesh.

I heard she listened to a Barbra Streisand record once. She should immediatly withdraw. We can't have this type of person on the SC..

Exactly. Barring some scandal, Miers is getting on this Court, so we will find out soon enough if she votes to overturn Roe v. Wade or not.

Well, John Dean did it to Nixon.
But that's not the point. The point is that Bush has just walked himself into a full blown inquisition about what private legal counsel that he, Cheney, Rove, Libby, etc may have received regarding Plame, Abu Ghraib, Gitmo, 9/11, war in Iraq, Katrina, etc etc etc...

The Democrats are going to milk this for all the Bush-bashing media attention they can. They'll be demanding the documents and the media will join them.

This is the stupidest move to date from the White House.

It was "indiscreet" unless Rove said it was O.K. to use his name on the radio broadcast to soothe unfounded fears ; )

Indeed, that is a theoretical possibility. I suppose any horse you bet on at the track could win the race, but most people try to go with proven winners to improve the odds. My firm belief is that the surest way for Bush to energize the base would have been to pick a judge with a proven conservative record, then challenge the Dems and RINOs to "bring it on." Now, we're stuck with theoretical possibilities.

I respectfully disagree. Not fighting McCain - Feingold campaign finance reform is the stupidest move to date.

No one says 100 are needed - 60 would do just fine.

51 is all it takes under the Constitution. Or has that been subverted while the people were distracted by bread and circuses?

Yeah, and the media headlines the next day will be "MIERS REFUSES TO ANSWER QUESTIONS ABOUT BUSH CRIMES"

Most people do indeed go with proven winners to improve the odds - that is unless you know the dark horse is a sure thing ; )
