I think Houston is a sprawling sh-thole and that Port Arthur is a pit. Outside of that, Texas truly is a great state with friendly people to boot. Love the Hill Country (cool German Churches), San Antonio, Austin, and even places like Del Rio have their charm (such as that city's museaum, with the largest creche display in North America).
A Shiner Bock to the Lone Star State and its people.

Texas is honestly the greatest place I've ever lived in, and I have now lived in the northeast, the midwest and the south. People here are laidback and friendly. I mean, the first day I stepped into the local church the folks there welcomed me with open arms. Frankly, if it wasn't for family(I'm a college student), I'd be happy to live here forever.

Texas is a great place, folks in West Texas are the greatest people on earth. Having said that I moved when I was 30 to the beachs of California and have missed only Lake Travis since I left (well Whataburgers too). Oh I miss those 100degree July - Aug days too but not much, although it is funny to watch people in San Francisco complain when the heat gets up to 80.

Wouldn't mind a few wells on a huge spread, but we take what we can get, right?!

No offense, but Texas weather is so %#* hot and humid I about died from drowning in my own sweat when there. It was like being on the scorched surface of Venus, except with dripping humidity.

"Night In Old San Antonio River Parade" The River Parade and NIOSA are two different things. And, not even on the same evenings. The River Parade is Monday night, NIOSA is Tuesday - Friday night.
Overall though, a good piece.

Lyrics for Song: Texas Cookin' I'm going down to Austin, Texas
I'm going down to save my soul
Get that bar-b-que and chili
Eat my fill then come back home
I'm gonna take my baby with me
We gonna have a high ol' time
We gonna eat till we get silly
Sho' do make a beer taste fine
Chorus
Oh my, momma ain't that Texas Cookin' something
Oh my, momma it'll stop yo' belly and backbone bumpin'
Oh my, momma ain't that Texas Cookin' good
Oh my, momma eat it everyday if I could
I know a man that cook armadillo
tastes so sweet he calls it pie
I know a woman makes pan dulce
tastes so good it gets you high
Get them enchiladas greasy
get them steaks chicken fried
Sho' do make a man feel happy
to see white gravy on the side
Chorus
I know a place that got fried okra
beat anything I ever saw
I know a man that cook cabrito
it must be against the law
We gonna get a big ol' sausage
a big ol' plate of ranch style beans
I could eat the heart of Texas
we gonna need some brand new jeans
Chorus
Guy Clark........... One of the finest song writer's, ever.

Spring is the season for bock beer. Shiner's fine, but a really good Texas beer you should try is that produced by
Rahr Brewing in Fort Worth. Their strictly
Reinheitsgebot blonde lager and black lager ("Ugly Pug") are perfect for Oktoberfest quaffing. Plus thay have a free Saturday afternoon tasting (100% draft!) at the brewery that can't be beat.
The Lone Star State is indeed a great place to live. I wouldn't make my permanent home anywhere else -- and I've been all over the world. As we say down here, como Texas, es no hay otro.

My mom told me never to ask people if they were from Texas. If so, they would tell you; if not, you wouldn't want to embarass them.
