Umps pitched lights out. Umps outscord the Angels. Umps misused their bullpen.

You are a dope.

All I ever got from a SOX Game was a mugging!

Two girls backed me into a corner demanding my money, late 60's. Luckily a bunch of guys noticed and scared them off. I suspect this kinda clouds my opinion of the SOX.

I see.... Was it a foul tip that was caught, and therefore called an out?

Minnie Minoso
Given Name: Saturnino Orestes Arrieta Armas
Born: 1922

OF 1949, 51-64, 1976, 80 Indians, White Sox, Cardinals, Senators

    * All-Star in 1951-54, 57, 60
    * Gold Glove in 1957, 59-60

Games Average HR RBI
Career  1835 .298 186 1023

Books and articles about Minnie Minoso

» Baseball, Chicago Style: A Tale of Two Teams, One City by Jerome Holtzman and George Vass

Minoso debuted in 1949, but he was still officially a rookie when obtained by the White Sox in a three-team deal involving the Indians and A's on April 30, 1951.

On May 1, in a game against the Yankees in Comiskey Park, the young Cuban speedster became the first black player to don a White Sox uniform. In the very first inning, Minoso homered off Vic Raschi. (Mickey Mantle hit his first ML home run in the sixth inning of the same game.) Minoso finished his rookie year as the AL leader in stolen bases (31) and triples (14); his .326 batting average was second only to Philadelphia's Ferris Fain's .344, and his 112 runs fell one short of Dom DiMaggio's league-leading 113. Though the Yankees' Gil McDougald won the baseball writers' Rookie of the Year honors, Minoso was TSN's Rookie of the Year. He led the AL in stolen bases again in 1952 and 1953 and in triples in 1954, and tied for the league lead in steals in 1956 and in doubles in 1957.

He would do whatever was necessary to get on base, including getting in the way of fastballs. In 16 AL seasons, he set the league record by being hit by a pitch 189 times. Traded with Fred Hatfield to Cleveland in December 1957 for Early Wynn and Al Smith, he was not around when the Go-Go White Sox won the 1959 AL pennant; Bill Veeck awarded him an honorary championship ring anyway.

With Cleveland, Minoso hit a career-high 24 home runs in 1958, and he batted .302 in both 1958 and 1959 before the White Sox reacquired him. In 1960 he led the AL with 184 hits, was second to Roger Maris with 105 RBI, and batted over .300 for his eighth and final time. Following stints with the Cardinals and Senators, he retired after spending 1964 as a White Sox pinch hitter.

Twelve years later, during the second Veeck ownership, Minoso was brought out of retirement and went hitless as Chicago's DH against the Angels' Frank Tanana on September 11, 1976. "It's been many years since I face pitching like this," he explained. "I hope they [the fans] forgive me." The next day, he collected his last ML hit. He was a White Sox coach from 1976 to 1978, and in 1980, when he was again activated, joining Nick Altrock as the only five-decade major leaguers; he went 0-for-2 as a pinch hitter. Ever popular in Chicago, he became a team goodwill ambassador. (RL)

Whatever the photos show, all Paul had to do was tag Pierzynski and there would have been no debate. All he had to do was finish the play.

That said, if this series does nothing other than focus attention on the pathetic state of major league umpiring, it will all have been worth it.

But alas, even after this success the majority of the city of Chicago still want to embrace the Cubs.
I disagree, its the media here that pushes the Cubs, very similar to the way the M.S.M. embrace democrats. We are the silent majority on the Southside.

The Sox didn't win. The umpires won it for them.

Okay, I know that's not true. Still, knowing that you guys got all 4 bad calls in the series go your way makes this Angel fan feel a little better.

My Mom was a diehard Colt 45/Astro's fan when she was alive. One of my most cherished possessions is a green spiral notebook. April 1965, Astros vs Mets, went 11 innings with the Mets winning 10-9. The game was the 3rd time in 'stro history Houston stole home plate. Paid attendance 7,227.

My Mom would buy spiral notebooks and draw the graph just like the one in the programs at the games. She'd keep score just as you were supposed to do in the programs. The last game in this green notebook was Houston vs Atlanta, June 18, 1967 and was the first no-hitter against the Braves since 1951. Paid attendance was 19,199 and total attendance was 22,173. Score 2-0.

I will have to root for the Astro's if...

And if they should go to the World Series there will be a small flower arrangement in the Astro's colors placed upon a grave somewhere in Dallas, Texas.

Because I promised many year ago after she died and the first time we ever made it to the playoffs.

Could you believe it when they showed 97-year-old Al Lopez? . . . Al was there at the game, sittin' in the rain. They showed him on camera around the 8th inning, and McCarver saluted him.

Are you sure you saw Al Lopez? The guy I saw when they were talking about Lopez was Rollie Hemond, former GM for the Sox.

Here are a couple of recent photos of Al Lopez, in his mid-90s:

Here's a recent photo of Rollie Hemond, who's in his 70s:

"Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye
He'll never love you, the way that I love you
'Cause if he did, no no, he wouldn't make you cry
He might be thrillin' baby but a-my love (my love, my love)
So dog-gone willin'
So kiss him (I wanna see you kiss him, wanna see you kiss him)
Go on and kiss him goodbye

"Na na na na, hey hey-hey, goodbye
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye
Listen to me now
He's never near you to comfort and cheer you
When all those sad tears are fallin' baby from your eyes
He might be thrillin' baby but a-my love (my love, my love)
So dog-gone willin'
So kiss him (I wanna see you kiss him. I wanna see you kiss him)
Go on and kiss him goodbye

"Na-na na-na-na na na na na na na, hey hey hey, goodbye
Hey hey-hey, goodbye
