We're already over it, thank you. And yes, your team had a great performance. No denying that. Congradulations. However, you can't ignore that the bad calls helped them. I agree they probably would have won without the bad calls, but it would not have been as lopsided. All of the calls lead to runs at key moments. They could have made the difference between you guys winning in 5 or winning in 6.
The point is not whether it hit the ground or not, the point is that he signaled OUT. He tried to say that was his third strike motion, but that didnt match what happened when Molina struck out in the fourth inning of the same game. Monina struck out, the ball bounced. The ump put the arm straight out, and then waited until AJ tagged Molina. When, and ONLY THEN, did he make the "out" signal. Unfortunately for the Angels, the umpire made the out call before any tag was made and then when AJ ran, he second-guessed himself. It doesn't really matter if it hit the ground or not (which I think it hit the top of the glove, but), its the call that was made. Did Escobar proceed to give up a hit?? Yup, but after he stood out on the mound for about 8 minutes while the discussion was going on. He was filthy before that incident and then he got cold.
If that game stays tied (and remember the Angels were up 1-0 games and had only given up a 1st inning unearned run), they are up 2-0 and coming home. Nothing is to say they would have scored, but nothing is to say they wouldnt either. Games should be decided on the field and unfortunately, although it finally was decided on the field with the next hitter, the Angels were given a HUGE setback.
Game 4 was the absolutely worst gme I've seen umpired in my life! Check swing to AJ was a judgement call, so you cant really get on them that much for that one, but that was a HUGE call. The catcher's interference was MONUMENTAL as it turned a bases loaded, one out situation into the end of the inning. Podsednick was out on the pickoff. The guy who stole 2nd base was out by more than a foot. The pitch that was 1 inch away from the CENTER of the plate and called a ball. The jumping grab/tag by Erstad at first was inconclusive, but close. The umps blew 4 calls and had 2 close ones that went the Sox way.
The phantom tag play on AJ in game 5 was not "cheating" as someone on this board idiotically said. It was a brain fart by Escobar. Why did it take three umps 3 minutes to figure out they were wrong?? The home plate ump should have had that figured out in 10 seconds.
The Angels didn't hit the ball, plain and simple. They have no one to blame but themselves for that. Too many first pitch swings allowed the four complete games. A more patient lineup would have gotten into that bullpen, which could have been good or bad. The rainout in NY hurt us tremendously, but Fox had to keep the schedule like it was to raise the revenues.
No one has a crystal ball to see what would have happened if they had gone extra innings in game 2. Unfortunately we didnt get to see it.
There will be NO asterick on the Sox win. They won, they played well. I wont be rooting for them, but who cares.....Go Angels in 2006
"Check swing to AJ"
.
Sorry, Konerko, right before the 3-run HR
I meant, if that game stays tied in the 9th and we win in extra innings, then the Angels are up/ 2-0 and coming home! . Proofreading is our friend...UUUUUGH

As a Cubbie fan, I think that they should play the World Series at Wrigley Field.. After all, that's the only way that they're ever going to get to play a World Series there.
In all seriousness, I thought the old stadium sucked; at least you can kind of see when sitting in nose-bleed seats in this one. However, the reason that people don't go to Sox games is because the surrounding area sucks unlike Wrigleyville. A stadium right off the expressway in the middle of nowhere, doesn't lead to a good time. At least, they tore down the projects so it's safer there now.
Secret insider's tip: the best cracker-crust pizza on the South Side can be had at Vito & Nick's at the corner of 84th & Pulaski.
I think that it's just the atmosphere around Wrigleyville that adds to the whole mystic. U.S. Cellular doesn't have that because it's near the expressway and abandoned housing projects. If the Sox end up winning the series, Reinsdorf would be wise to encourage retail investment in that area, because if he doesn't, they still aren't going to outdraw the Cubs.
Well, it's not actually made from crackers.... the term is used to describe pizza with a thin crispy crust.
It's a good thing I didn't live too close by or I'd be 800 lbs. by now!
Hey, Thanks. (I suspect I'll be FROM here in not too distant future too. You never know.)
You know what I was wanting to happen at the end of the season was for Cleveland and Chicago to be in (Cleveland in first, of course, I hope you'll forgive me) and for whoever was second in the Yankees/Red Sox division to lose out on first place AND lose out on the Wild Card too. That would have been the best revenge for me. I can't stand either of them. I never expected Minnesota to be so far back at the end of year.
If the White Sox don't pull an "Indians" in the World Series, there's every reason they should win it. As you say their pitching should carry the day. Just hope their hitting doesn't go south like the Indian's hitting did the last 6 or 7 games of the season.
I don't agree about the interference call. The runner would have normally given up the out for the run which would have scored so I really don't know why he was complaining. Had he just run he would have beaten the ball and the run would have scored. That would have been a huge run at the time.
I have seen plenty of bad umpiring so don't get to outraged about it. This was a bit more public. As to the call of "out" that happens all the time too. But catchers will now make double sure when they catch balls in the dirt.
Winning ball requires taking advantage of your chances and there has been no one any better at that than the Sox this year. This Pennant may be known as the Year of the Stealing of First.
In 1960, the Sox traded away Norm Cash, Johnny Callison and Johnny Romano. If they had kept those guys, they would have been a powerhouse throughout the 1960's.
My brother used to take me to games back in the '50's. After a Cubs - Phillies game we saw the Phillies team bus and went up to see the players. I was just a little girl and got on my tiptoes to see into the bus. Amazingly Wally Post came over and twisted my nose. And I remember Richie Ashburn sitting nearby laughing.
The last time I attended a Cubs game was the year before Harry Carey died. I was sitting in the upper deck. When I looked to my left I could see Harry Carey announcing the game. When I looked to my right I could see sailboats along the lakefront. And when I looked straight ahead I could see the street when the balls land when they're hit out of the park. The perfect place to sit at a Cubs game.
you've been silent, figured you had a cardiac arrest...:)
