Paris Riots spread throughout north-east (7th Night of Violence and Burning)

Paris riots spread throughout north-east Posted at 8:20pm on 3 Nov 2005

Violence broke out in impoverished Paris suburbs for the seventh straight night, with rioters clashing with police and leaving a trail of torched cars and vandalised buildings.

Observers are pointing to France's failure to address deep problems of poverty and immigration, including tensions with its Muslim minority.

In Aulnay-sous-Bois in the worst-affected area of Seine-Saint-Denis, a police station was briefly besieged by gangs of youths while a gymnasium and a garage were set ablaze and a commercial centre vandalised.

A total of 40 vehicles, including two buses, were torched before midnight in nine towns in the Seine-Saint-Denis area, a high-unemployment largely-immigrant region. Police made 15 arrests.

Two primary schools were also damaged in the area northeast of the French capital.

The riots started last Thursday following the accidental electrocution of two youths, aged 15 and 17, who had scaled an electrical relay station's walls to escape a police identity check in Clichy-sous-Bois.

The firing of a police tear gas grenade against a mosque in Clichy-sous-Bois during clashes on Sunday also sparked rage in the suburb's large Muslim community.

This is scaring the pants off me -- a scary thing in and of itself! Am I overreacting?

A question for you all -- in all seriousness. How does a free society handle this -- other than dealing with the actual criminals and crimes? If you start to limit the freedoms of all Muslims, who's next? Yes, the Baptists, Lutherans and Amish may seem peaceful and harmless, but I recall reading some "definitions" of religious extremists during the Branch Davidian episode, and the definition could easily have been applied to me or anyone who puts God first in their lives. If we look at Islam as the enemy, what is to prevent Judaism or Christianity from being the enemy tomorrow?

How can we secure our safety without destroying our freedom?

the police are not reacting with overt force in hopes of not creating a massive conflict

They are going to end up creating a de facto permanent Muslim-occupied zone within France - a zone where non-Muslims and law enforcement officers dare not tread - if they don't want this, they've got to fight the battle now, while the situation is not completely hopeless.

Has anyone seen pictures of these 'youths' throwing stones, attacking cars, etc? MSM always seems to get the RIGHT shot in Israel, yet they somehow seem to have miss the opportunity in Paris. Seriously people, where are those great AP action shots?

The police are already saying some areas were completely lost already before the riots. They drive thru, don't stop, with windows up.

"No matter what the politicians say, some neighborhoods are all but lost," said Patrice Ribeiro national secretary of the Synergie police officers' union.

Sounds like the police are just using this episode to push for a pay raise or something.

But the whirled newz two-night hasn't mentioned anything about it so it can't be so bad, can it? Perhaps if some white people rioted then they would mention it?

Sounds like the Cabrini-Green housing project on the south side of Chicago up until about ten years ago.

Ironically, those projects became docile as a sheep pasture after the city of Chicago contracted a group that included the Nation of Islam to provide security personnel.

On Fox & Friends early this AM they did a segment on the continued rioting. It looked like someone had told Steve Doocy not to say the word 'Muslims'. He kept struggling for descriptive terms, such as "They are from the...poor...sections North and East of Paris. They are primarily...uh...from North Africa and...most of them are...uh...poor, and...uh, black..." Never one utterance of the M word, and the slant seemed to be that they are rioting because Paris has refused to assimilate them, as if they've done all they can do to fit in.

They have no work. They have nothing to do. Put yourself in their place," said Abderrahmane Bouhout, president of the Clichy-sous-Bois mosque, where a tear gas grenade exploded Sunday evening. Local youths suspected a police attack, and authorities are investigating.

Put myself in their place. Hmmm.... I can imagine having no work. I can imagine having nothing to do. I can't imagine rioting over it. I would find a way to market my education and skills or learn new skills. If I needed to relocate to find opportunities, I'd move. I can't believe there are no options for people who want to work and improve their situation.

You start by understanding they are using our own God given Rights against us to establish their own Republic in which others(us) lose our Right to Freedom of Religion. They are trying to establish a worldwide Theocracy, which is in direct conflict with what the US stands for.

The joke is on us, in that our own liberal left has been taking away that Right for sometime now; with their own twisted rhetoric, we can no longer discern when our Right to Freedom of Religion is under attack. We have all been taught to tolerate the 'differences' to even celebrate them. You see because of PC, we call them terrorists, insurgents, criminals, etc. when in reality they are enemies of the United States. They are not here or there to cause mischief, but to overthrow the governments of the West. I don't see other religions planning and plotting away the Rights of other citizens.

That's the difference.

Can anyone say Neville Chamberlain?
