Iran threatens counter-strike

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman says recent Israeli statements on Iran's nuclear project show Israeli government is frustrated from failure to bring international community to pressure Iran: 'Zionist authorities are well aware that if they make a foolish mistake against Iran, Iran's harsh response will be destructive and determined' Roee Nahmias

An Iranian foreign ministry spokesman, Hamid Riza Asaffi, speaking with journalists in Teheran, said that recent Israeli statements on Iran's nuclear project showed that the Israeli government is frustrated from a failure to bring pressure from the international community to on Iran.

He claimed that a "serious crisis" within the "Zionist authorities" was the main factor behind what he described as Israeli threats. His comments were reported by the Islamic Republic News Agency.

"The Zionist authorities are well aware that if they make a foolish mistake against Iran, Iran's harsh response will be destructive and determined," said the spokesman. "Their approach comes from their anger over the fact that they can't realize their plans," he added.

Earlier, Benjamin Netanyahu told the Voice of Israel national radio network that "Israel must take every necessary step to prevent Iran from developing nuclear weapons. Iran must be prevented from developing this threat to the State of Israel. If, by the elections, the current government works to achieve this, I will give it my full support – and if it does not, I intend on establishing the next government, and then we'll act."

Meretz-Yahad faction head Yossi Beilin said that narrow considerations based on elections will drag Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Netanyahu to harsh comments that will be perceived as support for military action against Iran. Beilin said Israel must work for diplomatic activity to be led by the United States without endangering Israel in a confrontation with Iran with potentially disastrous consequences.

From the article: "The fact that the Iranians are successful time after time in getting away from international pressure...encourages them to continue their nuclear project," he said.

"I believe that the political means used by the Europeans and the U.S. to convince the Iranians to stop the project will not succeed," Halutz added.

True statements. The Iranians have proven they aren't going to negotiate away their nuclear goals. Israel is wise to be prepared.

well I'm fed up , been fed up a long time .
It's long overdue for 'pay-back' for the hostage crisis
of the US Embassy in Tehran , long ago.
That we never nailed them for that only emboldened them since.
It's high time to rectify the problem(s) with Iran .
We should also be 100% backing and supporting all Iranian
opposition elements , not just giving lip service.

I am sure when McCain gets his anti-torture amendment moolahs in Iran will stop building their nuclear toys.

This must also be what the liberals have in mind in withdrawing our troops from Iraq, calming down Iran.

Sadly there should be a bold lettering of sarcasm but not even that word fits with what is going on.

El Baradei: Iran only months away from a bomb
Jerusalem Post ^ | Dec. 5, 2005 | JP

IAEA chairman Muhammad ElBaradei on Monday confirmed Israel's assessment that Iran is only a few months away from creating an atomic bomb.

"If Teheran indeed resumes its uranium enrichment in other plants, as threatened, it will take it only several months to produce a bomb," ElBaradei told The Independent, according to Army Radio.

Is Iran themselves going to actually fight this time or as usual pay someone else to do their fighting for them?

How much Iranian opposition is actually present in Iran ?? I wonder how much of it is staged to prevent us from acting.

Concentrating more on defenses for countries sane enough to be very concerned about Iran is the true way for the Road Map to western Europe's heart--not more "land for peace" in Israel. ..."true way for the Road Map to western Europe's heart:" That really should be incorporated into country music lyrics, IMO.

Build an even better shield over Israel.

Well then I guess since Iran as said that Israel must burn, the question is does Israel want a Nuclear or Conventional counter strike.

I would suspect waiting will bear a multi-million death price tag.

Neither would I but I am so tired of Israel capitulating and getting nothing but death in return.
Like to at least get a rise from Israelis but Nothing.
