A license to kill Nixon (assassination scenario)
Orange County Register ^ | December 28, 2005 | Eleeza V. Agopian

Posted on 12/28/2005 9:42:00 AM PST by EveningStar

"What sort of assignments did you get?" I asked.

"Well, there's one I probably shouldn't tell you about," he said.

My reaction: I have to know.

"We were asked to kill the president," he said.

Then he got the assignment of a lifetime. The Air Force's chief of staff asked Evett and about 40 of his colleagues to test the president's security. In other words, try to kill the president without really killing him.

That's not what the story headline leads you to think. What a cheap hook.

MISLEADING TITLE and your excerpt continued the misleading impression.

REALITY: He was asked to TEST THE PRESIDENT'S SECURITY:

"The Air Force's chief of staff asked Evett and about 40 of his colleagues to test the president's security. In other words, try to kill the president without really killing him."

I think it would be a good idea to correct the horribly misleading title, by adding in paranthesis: (Test Security).

Please see the article excerpts others and I posted:

"The Air Force's chief of staff asked Evett and about 40 of his colleagues to test the president's security. In other words, try to kill the president without really killing him."

I added "(assassination scenario)" for that very reason, however, I if you think this is a better qualifer, that's ok with me.

The assassination scenario still gave the impression that there has been an attempt or some people really tried it, or that thre was some secret government order to assassinate Nixon.

It was really very poor form on the part of the paper to use that ludicrous title "license to kill Nixon", when in fact it was nothing of the sort.

When I read the title, my immediate reaction was "Oh, my God, what was this". I am sure others have the same reaction, then I went to read the article and found I had to register to find out what it really said. It was somewhat frustrating and I am sure others feel the same way.

While newspapers may want a catchy title, but this title is a flat out lie, because there was NO "license to kill Nixon". One would expect better of the OC Register.

Sokay. It would be better if this place went to an excerpt-only (except where permitted) policy.

I have an issue with the journalist's line: "If you respect the President so much you'd help plug holes in his security."

Does that mean Eleeza wouldn't tell anyone if she knew President Bush's security had specific holes in it? It gives me goose bumps to think any liberal would be that callous.

I don't mean to "nitpick", but "license to kill Nixon" IS a heavy title and it's not true.

I also have issue of the article describing some of the attempts in more detail than it's appropriate, giving ideas to terrorists.

I would think the guy revealing it shouldn't be talking about it either. That information should still be classified.

All this is not a joke.
