Julian Phillips Instructs Christian Minister on . . . Christianity
Fox & Friends Weekend | governsleastgovernsbest

Posted on 02/19/2006 4:57:05 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

Regular viewers of Fox & Friends Weekend know that co-host Julian Phillips has a penchant for parading his Christianity. Now, as a Jew, I want to walk gingerly and respectfully here. I believe there is a Christian obligation to profess one's faith, and I certainly respect that. Even so, I can't help but feel that there might possibly be something a bit ostentatious in Phillips' manner of fulfilling that duty.

In any case, Phillips took things an odd step further this morning when he essentially took it on himself to instruct a Christian minister on Christianity.

The subject matter was a church in Michiana, Indiana that has been running provocative billboards showing a couple's feet sticking out of the end of a bed and encouraging people to go to mylamesexlife.com. The idea is to invite them to the church to learn about God's plans for married people to have a good sex life [with their spouses of course ;-) ]

The Fox panel interviewed the pastor of the church, Mark Beeson. At the end of the interview, Pastor Beeson repeated his message that there is a God that cares and that there's hope and there's help for everybody [including in the area of marital sex].

That's when Phillips felt the need to remind the minister as to what was more important:

"We thank you for that BUT we also know the most important thing for a Christian is to conform to the image of Jesus Christ and become saved."

Perhaps realizing his impudence, Phillips added: "I know you know that," but then continued "OK, I'm sure you did, I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE WE WERE CLEAR ON THAT, PASTOR."

Perhaps Phillips would be doing us all a favor if he gave up his gig at Fox and became a full-time man of the cloth.

"If Fox wanted to promote Liberalism, it would have chosen an articulate and attractive spokesperson for liberalism. Instead he chose ineffective liberals."

Just who would an "effective" liberal be? I didn't know there were any.

I really enjoy Phillips. He is a breath of fresh air.

His often has a sour puss plus he often follows the MSMs talking points. Is that the fresh air?

You would have to give me an example before I could answer you.

Have you had a chance to look at the specific examples I posted at #26?

I did. The only one that bothered me was the Muslim rioters getting a pass because of different culture. No one could argue it's a different culture, though.

Guess we'll just have to conclude that you're more broad-minded than most of us curmudgeons here at FR ;-)

Hey, Julian, you dumb sh*t, lottery winnings are INCOME.

Actually in most of the world they are not considered income but a windfall. Sort of like money found in the street.

the most important thing for a Christian is to conform to the image of Jesus Christ and become saved.

Is this what a Catholic believes, or is this the word "Christian" as defined by the Evangelical christians.

This is closer to the Catholic position, it is BOTH. We do conform to Christ to the best of our ability.

The Evangelical Christian is more likely to state as did Always Right in post #12. Actually we just have to accept Jesus as our Savior. If we had to conform to the image of Christ, no one could ever get saved.

So maybe Julian isn't as dumb as so many Freepers think he is?

I always looked at Julian as the Juan Williams wanna-be, but sometimes Julian makes Juan look smart if that's even possible. Yikes.

People here often seem to lump Juan with Julian, and I feel that's unfair to Williams. Juan is a liberal, no doubt, but he is well-informed and on a personal level I find him likeable. Julian is not as well informed, and doesn't seem to feel comfortable with himself, which in turn seems to make others feel uncomfortable with him.

If you can't see his injecting Dem talking points into each equation from the links on post #26, so be it. Glad he's got an audience. I don't need my BP up. I'm not watching him when he starts in. Thanks to governsleastgovernsbest I don't have to. Are you on his ping list? I have to go out now, so I'll check later.

I have no idea having never watched the man but I do know that the US is the only country I know of where the money you win in the lottery is taxed.

Just saying that the idea is not far fetched.

Do you really think Larry King is ineffective? Do you think Wolfe Blitzer is ineffective?

Were walter Cronkite, Peter Jennings, and Tom Brokaw ineffective?

Do you really think Matt Lauer and Katie Couric are ineffective?

Some of the most effective over the years were the hosts of 60 minutes. Does Barbara Walters and Hugh Downs come to mind? Did I mention Tim Russert?

There are a few hundred others in the media.

The most important characteristic of a political analyst it to be able to look at the world the way it is.. not the way we wish it were. If the left did not have effective representation in the media it would never win an election.

Until talk radio became legal and Fox Cable News went on the air, there were no effective right wing media people.. those that supported the left got 99.9 percent of the air time. Their was only one unbiased reporter .. that was Paul Harvey. He was limited to one radio newscast a day... Good Day!!!

Tim Russert? Katie Couric? LOL My dog could do better interviews and I don't even have a dog! Walter Cronkite was very respected but now he just comes across as silly to me.
Wolfe Blitzer? I can't stand to watch him more than 3 seconds so I don't know how effective he may be. Larry King? I remember him from his AM radio days in Miami. He takes himself way too seriously, IMHO. Brokaw and Jennings I liked and think they were very professional. Alas, Mr. Jennings is no longer with us. Maybe they could get Tom Brokaw - though he never sounded all that liberal to me. I just think of some on CNN or MSNBC that are liberals and I just can't watch them. Sometimes it's good to listen to the other side but just not for long.:)

That was Juliet Huddy.

Kiran (barely) lost a rollerblading competition. Of course, she WAS starting her pregnancy at the time, so...

Oh, and don't forget Janice Dean out-dancing him!

Page and Janice, now there's a happy weekend!

"Tiki Barber could replace Julian with ease."

A dead armadillo that's been baking in the sun for a week could replace Julian Phillips...and would be a breath of fresh air.

I don't mind Julian the way most of the freepers do........he's ok, but I no longer watch the week-end edition because of Paige. It would be a boring world if we all liked the same people, wouldn't it?
