'Chappaquiddick Kid' off hook with college
WorldNetDaily ^ | 24 February 2006 | Ron Strom

Posted on 02/23/2006 5:23:50 PM PST by Aussie Dasher

The college where a student shouted 'Remember Chappaquiddick!' as Sen. Edward Kennedy, D-Mass., began a speech will not discipline the 20-year-old – even though campus police had warned the man of possible consequences of his action.

As WorldNetDaily reported, Paul Trost, a student at Massasoit Community College in Brockton, Mass., was upset by an introduction of Kennedy given by Rep. Stephen Lynch, D-Mass., Tuesday in which the congressman noted how the long-time senator overcame hardship in life on his way to success.

"Lynch said Kennedy had overcome such adversity to get to the place he was, and that's a bunch of bull," Trost said of the introduction, which occurred in the school's student center.

Just as Kennedy began speaking, Trost was walking out of the room when he shouted, "Remember Chappaquiddick!"

"Most of the crowd gasped," Trost said. "Then I walked out of the student center."

The student says a campus police officer went outside and stopped him. He also saw some state troopers go outside, the type who accompany Kennedy around the state to provide security.

Trost says the cop took down his information and told him he would be hearing from school officials about disciplinary action. A spokesman with the campus police verified the incident but stressed that Trost was not arrested.

Dick Cronin, a spokesman for Massasoit Community College, told WND today that Trost is off the hook.

"The college plans absolutely no disciplinary action against Mr. Trost," Cronin said. "It was simply a matter of communication from our campus police to Mr. Trost. The matter is now dropped."

A representative of the United States Justice Foundation offered pro bono legal assistance to Trost had he faced sanctions from the college.

'Can't you forgive him?'

Trost said one of his teachers confronted him after a class Tuesday about the Chappaquiddick issue.

"One of my teachers called me ignorant and told me this was an embarrassment to the school," Trost told WND. "She said to me, 'Can't you forgive him after all these years?' And I said, 'No, he killed somebody.'

"If it had been me or any other person, we'd be in jail," Trost says he told his instructor.

Referring to his two-word shout, Trost said, "I did it because I know about Kennedy's past. I know what happened at Chappaquiddick.

"I wanted to send a message to him that my generation still knows about it. We haven't forgotten about it."

Trost said he was satisfied to know that students on campus were talking about the Chappaquiddick incident later in the day – some of whom, in fact, were not familiar with it.

In 1969, Kennedy was driving a car that went off a bridge on Chappaquiddick Island, off the coast of Martha's Vineyard, Mass. His passenger, Mary Jo Kopechne, was killed after the car landed upside down in the water. No autopsy was ever performed to determine her exact cause of death.

At the time, Kennedy claimed he tried several times to swim down to reach Kopechne to no avail. He came under fire for not reporting the incident to authorities until the next morning. In the interim he reportedly made an effort to call a family legal adviser.

Trost, a liberal arts major who has protested the Iraq war, says he's not a right-winger.

"I tend to have what would be considered liberal views," he explained, "but I go with whatever I think is right."

Said Trost: "I don't regret what I did."

Trost's father, Edward, who calls himself a conservative, says he's proud of his son.

"He didn't do it to be obnoxious," Edward Trost said. "He was really offended."

I knew about this 9 hours ago.

I didn't freep you because I needed to make 118 phone calls and it took me a while to swim back to my motel. I also was delayed by the horrible, horrible armed assault by Dick (Halliburton) Cheney upon a senior citizen who was out scavenging poultry for his humble dinner.

So, you see the reason I didn't report this was all George Bush's fault.

Everyone should remember that this hits a little close to home for the Commander in Chief's immediate family.

You are an unreconstructed imbecile.

Was the First Lady driving under the influence? Did she flee the scene of the accident? Did she refuse to assist an accident victim? Did she fail to notify authorities? Did she consult with her lawyer before notifying first responders? Did she intentionally delay a first response that would have guaranteed survival of an accident victim?

???

Are you referring to Cheney? The man he shot is alive, due in large part to the fact that the people on the scene got him prompt medical attention. The other thing that obviously happened is that the proper law enforcement authorities were also notified.

The only people Cheney and the WH stiffed were the press.

Kopecne is dead.

That's the bottom line.

The press? What do we owe the press these days? The lot of them are criminally incompetent.

At the time, Kennedy claimed he tried several times to swim down to reach Kopechne to no avail.

Any word as to the veracity of this claim? It is rather disturbing that the article says "at the time." So he doesn't even bother to say that anymore when he's asked about the incident?

"I tend to have what would be considered liberal views," he explained, "but I go with whatever I think is right."

This and the fact that his dad is conservative means that this kid will wise up in a few years and become a full-blown conservative.

There is a very good website that talks about this whole event. I never knew the details until about a year ago when someone posted the link here on FR. I was APALLED!
I cannot believe there was not more outrage in this country over all that happened, how TK got away with it, and continued being a senator.

Has Mary Jo's family *ever* come out and said anything publicly about their daughter's death? I know the Kennedys have a lot of money and power but I can't imagine it being possible to buy them off over that.

Very little I believe and MSM, of course, has never pushed them.

I remember when Al Sharpton was being interviewed (on CNN, I think) when the subject of Tawana Brawley came up. He asked the reporter if he ever asked Kennedy about Chappaquidick.

I really dislike Sharpton, but I have to admit he comes up with some good lines.

I looked it up again, and confirmed that it was a satirical posting by one Scott Ott from 2004; Rumsfeld definitely did NOT say anything like that to Ted Kennedy.
Neither, apparently, did Alan SImpson. I seem to remember Simpson saying something nearly as good to some kind of Lib Icon, maybe Teddy.

Yes, he sure did, I myself heard it played with my own ears, either on Hanity or Rush a year or two ago!!!

Do you want a real Boston Tea Party? Round up 300 Free Republic members for a summer march through Boston...with the core 6 members of the march carrying a coffin and a simple sign on the side..."the dead don't rest...until the fat boy owns up". The media in Boston won't be able to miss the event...and alot of young people might ask some stupid questions.

Typical moral equivalency by liberals. Laura Bush, as a teen, ran a stop sign and accidentally killed a friend. He was in another car. Vlad would have you believe the accident of a yet-unconnected girl who didn't flee the scene is the equivalent of a rich, powerful drunk driving off a bridge, leaving his girlfriend for dead and failing to report it to the authorities until the next day, when it was clearly too late to help the girl. It's the same old tactic with them --- Bush is the equivalent of Hitler. Intercepting calls from those with ties to Al queda is the equivalent of Nixon....blah ...blah.....You know how the game goes with them.

She said to me, 'Can't you forgive him after all these years?'

If he didn't do anything he doesn't need forgivness. If he left a young woman to drown while he sat on the bridge contamplating his political career, then swam home and went to bed, he is unforgivable by anyone but God. Liberals don't understand that forgiveness has nothing to do with suitability for office.

So much for FREEDOM OF SPEECH. Of course it is only a FREEDOM when it does not pi$$ off a liberal/leftist/communist/socialist democrat.
