Women Run Anti-War Ads in Iraq

Wednesday 17 May 2006

Venice, California - May 15 - CODEPINK: Women for Peace took out full-page ads in 8 Iraqi newspapers today calling on Americans and Iraqi to come together to end the occupation of Iraq. The newspapers are As-sabah Al-Jadid, At-Taakhi, Al-Manar, Al-Haqaeq, Al-Iraq Al-Yaom, As-Syadah, Al-Adalah and Ash-Shahed. They are printed on line at:

http://www.newsabah.com/20060515/pdf/p12.pdf
http://www.taakhinews.org/pdf/4755/p8.pdf.

Two major newspapers, Azzaman and the U.S.-supported As-Sabah, refused to run the ad.

The ad calls on Americans and Iraqis to work together to stop the bloodshed and bring the US troops home. "We have seen in poll after poll that the majority of Americans and Iraqis want the US troops to return home. Even the majority of US troops (72%) think they should return by the end of this year. It is time for the politicians in both countries to listen to us, the people," the ad says. The ad is linked to a website, in Arabic, where Iraqis can sign a petition and communicate directly with Americans, either by internet or through the mail. To view the website, go to www.esteklal.org.

"We are thrilled by the feedback we are getting," says Medea Benjamin, cofounder of CODEPINK, a women's peace group that sponsored the ads. "The newspapers are reporting that they are swamped with calls from readers saying that this ad gives them hope and makes them realize there are Americans who support their desires to be free from foreign occupation. We must find ways to work together to end the bloodshed."

The ads are paid for by hundreds of CODEPINK supporters from around the country, including Annie Nelson, wife of renowned singer/songwriter Willie Nelson. "I have been heartbroken by all the death and destruction from this war in Iraq, and I am delighted to have a way to extend my hand in friendship to Iraqi mothers and their families," says Mrs. Nelson.

The ads follow a weekend 24-hour peace vigil at the White House organized by CODEPINK to commemorate Mothers Day, May 14. The vigil included peace mom Cindy Sheehan, actress Susan Sarandon, comedian Dick Gregory, doctor/clown Patch Adams, and women from Iraq and Iran. It featured a concert, strategy workshops on grassroots organizing and national campaigns, an interfaith gathering, and writing and reading letters to Laura Bush urging her to pressure her husband to end the war.

Remember that Code Pink sent $600,000 to the insurgents in aid to Fallujah. And like that support for terrorists, these ads were paid for with money Cindy Sheehan helped to raise.

Remember, too, that Code Pink, Mother Sheehan's operation and even Truthout are all tax-payer supported 501c3 “charities.”

We used to call this treason.

The one thing that code pink forgets, is that if we withdraw are troops, millions apon millions or Iraqis will be slaughtered. I guess they don't give a crap about that.

They know, they just don't care. After all, those Iraqis are just brown people and they don't deserve freedom or safety. Liberals are the most callous racists you will ever come across.

"Enough is enough, I know where we stand, and to think there can not be a civil war is this country is shortsighted at best."

It's coming.

I live in a part of the country where the last Civil War had a major impact, the scars are still visable today.

I just know if I had a war with that thing in a post above (not a man, not a woman) I know who would come out the winner. That sucker would be whining for somebody to take care of it, and I'd be locked and loaded, ready to defend me and mine.

And I'd grow/hide (and kill animals) me enough food to be able to survive a LONG conflict/war. Just like my ancestors did.

There is hope, though.

Those el pinko ladies think it is a human right to kill their babies, so one has to assume they'll kill themselves (or underbreed) enough to go extinct before long.

I wonder if another 501c3 group would have standing to sue the IRS because they aren't receiving equal protection under the law?

Where are the real American statesmen that will step out and call a spade a spade.

It makes me think, that they are all afraid, and are in there own survival mode.

The ironic thing is that if there where a real American politician that stood up to these communist, they would sweep any and all elections.

Hmm. I suppose that there are at least SOME Iraqi mothers who might feel different.

Such as those poor women who go from mass grave site to mass grave site, sifting through bones and fragments of cloth, looking for their husband/father/son.

Or the ones who had their husband/father/son taken away in the middle of the night, only to be dumped on their doorstep with signs of extensive torture, probably finished off by a half inch drill bit hole through the forehead, and an envelope with a bill inside to pay for the transport of the body back to them.

Or maybe the ones who had to watch their husband/father/sons fed into a chipper shredder...oh wait...those mothers/wives/daughters were probably fed in right after them...of course after they had been raped repeatedly and tortured.

But I am sure there are at least a few sympathetic ears in Iraq for the code pink message. After all, SOMEONE had to be on the giving end of all that aforementioned humanitarian treatment that Code Pink so obviously supports. I am sure the Code Pinkos are gratified there was NO placing of womens underwear on mens heads in Saddam's Iraq.

Happy Mothers Day all you Code Pink Pieces of Crap.

When I drive though Antietam or Bull Run, I can't help think how recent in historical terms we were at war in this country, brother against brother.

We have some "series" problems with socialist/communist groups, that have been given a free pass by the MSM, in our country.

I don't know what the tipping point will be, but there will be one, and when it happens, we will all know it.

I would normally laugh at that picture, but these people enrage me. I completely lose my sense of humor when confronted with their BS.

I plan on making the trek down to Walter Reed to counter protest one of these days, but I seriously wonder if I have the discipline when I see them doing the things they do, to obey the law.

It was state's rights, and other issues, when it happened not so long ago in this nation's short history.

When you live in a place that still bears the scars, and its history is surrounded by those scars, and the last conflict that pitted brother against brother, you don't think a next Civil War isn't possible.

Back in 2000, when the Dems tried to steal the election in Florida, I was prepared to board an airplane and fly to Florida. Then I saw on Fox News the conservatives storm the door and stop the election theft. I was also prepared to break down that door.

The Dems are going to try to steal the next election, I'm sure. We are very close to this Union being toppled, another Civil (or UnCivil) War.

And I will fight, with the intensity my ancestors did, during the first Civil War.

Heard of a van that is loaded with weapons,
packed up and ready to go
Heard of some gravesites, out by the highway,
a place where nobody knows
The sound of gunfire, off in the distance,
I'm getting used to it now
Lived in a brownstore, lived in the ghetto,
I've lived all over this town

This ain't no party, this ain't no disco,
this ain't no fooling around
No time for dancing, or lovey dovey,
I ain't got time for that now

Transmit the message, to the receiver,
hope for an answer some day
I got three passports, a couple of visas,
you don't even know my real name
High on a hillside, the trucks are loading,
everything's ready to roll
I sleep in the daytime, I work in the nightime,
I might not ever get home

This ain't no party, this ain't no disco,
this ain't no fooling around
This ain't no mudd club, or C. B. G. B.,
I ain't got time for that now
Heard about Houston? Heard about Detroit?
Heard about Pittsburgh, P. A.?
You oughta know not to stand by the window
somebody might see you up there
I got some groceries, some peant butter,
to last a couple of days
But I ain't got no speakers, ain't got no
headphones, ain't got no records to play

Why stay in college? Why go to night school?
Gonna be different this time
Can't write a letter, can't send a postcard,
I can't write nothing at all
This ain't no party, this ain't no disco,
this ain't no fooling around
I'd like to kiss you, I'd love you hold you
I ain't got no time for that now

Trouble in transit, got through the roadblock,
we blended with the crowd
We got computer, we're tapping pohne lines,
I know that ain't allowed
We dress like students, we dress like housewives,
or in a suit and a tie
I changed my hairstyle, so many times now,
I don't know what I look like!
You make me shiver, I feel so tender,
we make a pretty good team
Don't get exhausted, I'll do some driving,
you ought to get some sleep
Get you instructions, follow directions,
then you should change your address
Maybe tomorrow, maybe the next day,
whatever you think is best
Burned all my notebooks, what good are
notebooks? They won't help me survive
My chest is aching, burns like a furnace,
the burning keeps me alive
Try to stay healthy, physical fitness,
don't want to catch no disease
Try to be careful, don't take no chances,
you better watch what you say

The vigil included peace mom Cindy Sheehan, actress Susan Sarandon, comedian Dick Gregory

An original member of Jane Fonda's FTA troupe who helped Fonda raise funds for the VVAW's Winter Soldier Investigation. I wonder how much of Sheehan's funding comes from Fonda, given how much she pumped into Kerry's 2004 campaign ($13,085,750.00 to Democrat 527's between 2000 and 2004).
