I had heard it was long and boring, too. It will self-destruct. They laughed at Cannes. You know that audience would have loved it if they'd had half a chance.

If you think a fictional movie can not be used as a powerful propagation tool, you are sorely mistaken.

No, I am secure enough in my own faith so as to not let a fictional movie or book rattle that faith. Clearly, others are not so secure and as such they argue the points you cite from ignorance, fear, greed, guilt, and envy.

There is nothing new here, so why get so worked up about it?

Hollywood only snagged it due to its phenomenal print success. It is patently absurd to suggest that it's an attempt by Hollywood to do anything other than make money.

I am amazed at the number of professional victims populating FR.

When I heard about the book and later the movie I said, "Well, God must've figured it was time for a large, new harvest of believers in Jesus Christ!"

Personally, I can't see who would be interested in watching a long boring fictionalized account of the Gospel.

I saw the movie Friday night. I enjoyed the book, and I think the movie did it better justice than most movies do to their respective novels. It was a long movie, but it didn't drag. Opie got a bit too artsie-fartsie with his euro-econobox-in-reverse chase scene: that was the low point for me. Like the book it's a cerebral movie, so the adrenaline junkies aren't going to like it.

I think the net impact of the book and movie are positive for Christianity. While the plot is captivating, it is clearly fiction and doesn't hold up to the scrutiny of history.

It changed me from being a Christian to "undecided"!

What further amazes me is how many people are so utterly insecure in their own faith as to let a book and a movie rattle them so.

That is nonsense. It is precisely those who are "secure in their own faith" who oppose this book and film. They are trying to prevent the misleading of those who have a poor understanding of Christianity. They refuse to see this movie because they don't want to contribute to the accounts of those who are setting out to bring discord and corruption, not because they are afraid it might weaken their own faith. Too bad you can't say the same.

Exactly. The real issue is the people like Brown who want to paint Christ and the Bible as not neccessarily the absolute Truth and the only Way, and want to open up a more flexible path to salvation. In the end what they really want is a Christ who isn't going to challenge or threaten their lifestyle.

What amazes me is that you don't get it.

The Gnostics were a cult that threatened the Christian faith by calling into question Jesus divinity. Dan Brown has dredged up all the Gnostic lies and proclaims them truth. The ignorant will believe him.

FR was created to debunk liberal lies of all stripes.

Really, tell Dan Brown his theories are fiction. He will readily admit his factious characters are fiction, but not the thoroughly disproven conspiracy theories. His theories are an easy sell to the growing number of people who fear Christianity. And yes, there are millions of people buying into his blasphemy.

Well put. Many seem to want us to roll over and shut up. If a great liberal was slandered in such a way in a novel/movie, the liberal media would destroy and ridicule it. When a movie attacks a conservative, the liberals praise it for opening up discussion.

Depressing? What, you can't get over the fact it's FICTION?

The "fiction" justification doesn't wash. How would you like it if someone wrote a book where you were the main character. They used your real name, birthdate, town you live in, job etc..., but than had you patronizing prostitutes or being into S&M or some such. The author would label it "fiction", but I bet you would be none to happy.

Depressing? What, you can't get over the fact it's FICTION? We're heading out to see the movie today.

It was good!

The different segments on History/Nat'l Geo - etc, channels on Opus Dei, Knight's Templar, MM and other "nonexistent" "Brown lies" are helping, IMO, also.

Brown has been both vilified and credited with "ideas" that have been around for 2000 years.

As well as ancient writings, there are several NON-fiction books in print currently, many written before Brown's, on these same subjects. Nothing in the book/movie was a 'new' premise to me, as I have been reading these for a couple decades now.

Strikes me funny that no hue and cry has been made over all the NON-fiction books, with extensive biblios, on these 'ideas' - I guess not many people reading NON-fiction these days...

It took a mystery NOVEL (like in FICTION) to catch the attention of the public. But, hey, if it works to bring the LIGHT out on the past and present history - even if inconvenient for some power structures, well...

Jesus said "...you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John 8:32

He also told us how to ascertain truth -

If a thing cannot take the LIGHT of day - oh well...
