CBS To Air Profanity-Laden Program (Complaint About "9/11" Documentary)
American Family Association ^ | August 2006 | n/a

Posted on 08/28/2006 7:22:45 PM PDT by Pyro7480

Not content with all the profanity already on TV, CBS has decided to air the profanity-laden unedited version of "9/11" on Sept. 10. The decision by CBS is a slap in the face to the FCC and Congress, which recently raised indecency fines to $325,000 per incident.

"9/11," which will be shown in prime-time, contains a tremendous amount of hardcore profanity. CBS has stated they have not, and will not, make any cuts in the amount and degree of profanity. CBS will ignore the law. The network is suing the FCC over the indecency law, saying they should be able to show whatever they desire whenever they desire. CBS wants no limits.

This is a test case for CBS to see how far they can go. If there is no out-pouring of complaints from the public, they will go further the next time.

I want to see it raw, without any dressing up for the sake of "decency". Sufficient warnings will provide caution to those who are more offended by cursewords than of the towers collapsing on 3,000 unfortunate souls.

Besides, I don't recall any particular delicacy of language when talking with friends, relatives, and colleagues on that horrible day.

Are you my sister-in-law's husband?
He's totally detached from reality like you.
This happened. Go to any violent scene in your area it's rough it's tough. It's real! No sugar, no icing.
If someone said "XXXX" it was an expression of frustration and had no obsenity to it. "XXXX" was four times an
"Oh Gosh!". This is history.

What makes me angry is that according to Wikipedia (Jules Naudet), "some 9/11 conspiracy theorists suggest that the Naudet brothers had foreknowledge of the attacks, and the way Jules captured American Airlines Flight 11 crashing into the building is allegedly suspicious."

If you watch the broadcast version of the documentary online at 9/11 documentary, at the 1:16 mark in the film, you see the two brothers reuniting. The impression you get is that they in no way expected that was going to happen to them.

Flipping people acting like imbeciles....

>Is there a law against obscenity over the air or not?

Sounds a bit melodramatic, don't you think?

I do not believe that profanity in this context would be considered obscenity. This is not pornography we're talking about here, and somehow I doubt that bringing this to court would even result in this particular broadcast, in this timeslot, being found indecent, let alone obscene.

It's the actual events as they unfolded on 9-11, it's not commentary, it's what people were saying when they say the planes hit, before, after and during the buildings falling.

People are acting like some announcer is coming on and laying out a stream of profanities. That is not the case at all, instead it's an uncensored look at what took place that day.

I'm still struggling with the question of; Who decided which words are "bad words" and which words are not "bad words"?

Penn & Teller did an episode of Bullsh!t on this very topic. It aired during season two. A quick search turned found it at a few links including:

I fail to recall any recent hard-core pornography shown on the Peacock channel.

"So you are all for children learning any and all language that is aired on broadcast tv? "

So if they cut-out the curse words, you'd be willing to have your children witness the murder of 3,000 people.

I'm sorry, I find you position pretty darned weird.

So you are all for children learning any and all language that is aired on broadcast tv?

Though my children have been taught not to use those words ... they have already heard them and won't be shocked if they heard them again

With that said .. there is a warning from CBS ahead of time to inform parents about the language

They can choose whether or not to let their kids watch it

This is not a show the air every day of the week

You do remember when NBC aired Schindler's List, unedited, 9 years ago? Was that their 'test case'? I fail to recall any recent hard-core pornography shown on the Peacock channel.

Good point.

I just watched this (for the 8th time) last weekend. It is not "profanity laden". It does not show ANY scenes that could not be shown in prime time.

The replies on this thread are ridiculous. Those so upset at the F word being muttered should turn off the tv, if they actually have one. And disconnect their friggin' internet while they're at it.

If the DUmmies have an equivalent to our DUmmie Funnies, but for FR, this would be a good thread for them to pick up on lol. You have a real documentary of a tragic and horrific event with death and destruction everywhere, and people are worried about a few '4 letter words' being audible. It's nuts!

Good heavens. If any event calls for a healthy dose of profanity, this is it. I still cuss about it. Up your A$$, Osama. You and the camel you rode in on.

You know, when I woke up on the morning of 9-11, turned on the news after learning of the first plane to hit the trade centers, watched as a second plane made a direct hit into the second, the first words out of my mouth were not "gee golly willikers".

This isn't profanity for profanities sake. It's not scripted lines read by actors. This is a film showing what happened and said on the day.

I would be more worried about my children not knowing what happened on 9-11, forgetting it happened and not preparing future generations for other attacks then them hearing some cuss words which the majority of the US were coming out with that day.

LOL! Sometimes you just have to laugh at knee-jerk reactions.

It's a set-up for future programming and a pretty transparent one at that, since they've already shown it sans the hardcore profanity. Bleeps give a pretty good idea of what was said.

Or are the filmmakers really that incapable of taking 9/11 events and making a substantive, compelling program without raunchy language?

This has the only footage of the first plane hitting the towers.

As if living in NYC and working in Manhattan doesn't suck enough, people had to deal with THAT on a Tuesday morning.

ALL ragheads must pay until the debt is satisfied.

They owe us for 3500 civilians. 4 airliners, and (2) 110 story office buildings.

Any raghead who opens a big mouth is next on the list, at least as long as the GOP is in power.

To my knowledge, the documentary does not have a "clean" version. It is raw footage from that horrible day, so if you want to find it without raunchy language, go find a parallel universe where that is the case.
