CBS To Air Profanity-Laden Program (Complaint About "9/11" Documentary)
American Family Association ^ | August 2006 | n/a

Posted on 08/28/2006 7:22:45 PM PDT by Pyro7480

Not content with all the profanity already on TV, CBS has decided to air the profanity-laden unedited version of "9/11" on Sept. 10. The decision by CBS is a slap in the face to the FCC and Congress, which recently raised indecency fines to $325,000 per incident.

"9/11," which will be shown in prime-time, contains a tremendous amount of hardcore profanity. CBS has stated they have not, and will not, make any cuts in the amount and degree of profanity. CBS will ignore the law. The network is suing the FCC over the indecency law, saying they should be able to show whatever they desire whenever they desire. CBS wants no limits.

This is a test case for CBS to see how far they can go. If there is no out-pouring of complaints from the public, they will go further the next time.

Moonbats on parade. Right up there with those who believe the moon landing was staged, the hubble telescope is really a "star wars" type weapon, the Gov bombed the Pentagon and Bush ordered the levies in NO blown up so that only black sections of town would flood.

They're nuts, but what's scary is when so called mainstream journalists give their conspiracy theories the time of day.

That's only because space alien communication implants in their skulls have clouded their thinking.

Unbelievable, they whine about "hardcore" profanity that occurred during the most defining moment of our time and yet they let profanity be uttered on almost every lame brain made up show on tv. And how do they feel about the soft porn shown on such paragons of virtue as MTV? I swear the insane are running the entertainment industry government oversite asylum.

OK, that's enough! You're being a very bad influence on me and making me be silly on a thread about a very serious documentary (and the silly action by the AFA.)

Back to the Katherine Harris threads with you!

"...contains a tremendous amount of hardcore profanity..."

That description would apply to OBSCENITY or INDECENCY.

Mere profanity is PROFANITY.

Profanity is traditionally prohibited in the hours of 6am-10pm. Safe harbor is the time from 10pm-6am.

Profanity is bad language.

Indecency is sexual innuendo (and doesn't even require bad words, it is the nature of the discussion).

Obscenity is detailed/graphic descriptions of sexual and excretory acts.

If something were "hardcore profanity" it would crossover into the realm of obscenity.

Words mean things.

Either my memory is faulty, which is quite possible, or I do remember seeing this documentary on TV in 2001. There was NO profanity.

The documentary first aired in 2002. I have it on tape from that first airing, and it DEFINITELY had the rough language. That is clear from the video link I posted earlier.

We plan on watching "The Path to 9/11" mini-doc on another channel.

My husband and I saw the doumentary we're talking about in 2002. Powerful stuff. He's a little too young for that yet, I agree.

The french documentary is very powerful, but definitely not for kids.

Pray tell why should they be fined for reporting what was the news of that day? And this program is truly a news report of what really happened. It is a dangerous policy to allow the news to become so filtered that it is bland and elicits no emotion, by such methods is the frog boiled.

Personally I think we would be better served to have all the gratuitous profanity deleted from the "entertainment" shows, but don't see a lot of complaining about that.

You got that right. I guess it shows you how good we have it here in this country. Way too many freaks with way too much free time on their hands.

Is this the same group that complained about Schindler's List be aired uneditted on NBC a few years ago?

Just let me say that there was a point in time when I liked conspiracy theorists. They seemed to have an optimistic view of the world -- ya know, six guys conspire to screw everything up. Once we get rid of those six guys, then the world will be great. I didn't believe their nonsense of course, but they seemed to be hopeful.

Then I met an actual conspiracy theorist. And let me tell you, what an annoying outlook on life. The guy was really, really annoying. And all that broken logic and half-baked ideas didn't help any, either.

"Or are the filmmakers really incapable of taking 9/11 events and making a substantive, compelling program without raunchy language?"

You make reference to 'filmmakers.' Now, these two Frenchman may have started out that day as 'filmmakers,' but they ended up being recorders of history. In no way did they take 9/11 events and make a program. Your view of this documentary as being a mere TV program is something that both saddens and angers me greatly.
Far too many Americans, and I include you in this category because of your statement, think of the attack of 9/11/01 as nothing more than a TV show. A movie. A film.

Take the blinders off, shed your denial and realize what this is about!

I don't know about "Schindler's List," but the AFA definitely filed a complaint over the broadcast of "Saving Private Ryan."

So you are all for children learning any and all language that is aired on broadcast tv?

It's YOUR job to raise your kids, not anyone else's, Hillary. And in the real world, when something as serious as what happened on 9/11 goes down, people let slip with the cuss words.

Pyro, it isn't 'profanity laden'. I saw it again 2 nights ago. And I just put the dvd in the player again... Here is how it starts: viewer discretion advised. "On September 11, 2001, the F irefighters from Engine 7, Ladder 1 responded to the World Trade Center.

This is their story.

It is also the story of how New York City's bravest rose to their greatest challenge.

What you are going to see is the only know footage from inside Tower 1 - An eyewitness account of one of the most defining moments of our time."

Don't dis it & don't miss it.
