Noah's Ark Discovered ... Again and Again
Skeptical Inquirer ^ | 9-5-06 | Benjamin Radford

Posted on 09/05/2006 10:47:39 AM PDT by Central Scrutiniser

In this world there are things that seem on the verge of being discovered every so often, yet never quite materialize. The "Lost City" of Atlantis, for example, has been "found" at least a half dozen times. One researcher is pretty sure it is in Bolivia; another says it is Antarctica; a third claims that Bimini beachrock may be from the lost civilization. So it is with Noah's Ark. The difference is, of course, that the implications of Noah's Ark actually being found extend far beyond archaeology. The weight of all the paired animals in the world is nothing compared to the religious freight that the Ark carries. The Ark story is scientifically implausible; there simply wouldn't be enough space on the boat to accommodate two of every living animal (including dinosaurs), along with the food and water necessary to keep them alive. Furthermore, constructing a vessel of that scale would take hundreds of workers months to complete.

You are ridiculing something that's in Scripture, and ridiculing those who believe Scripture. Understandable if you're not a believer yourself. Puzzling if you consider yourself a believer. That's all I'm saying.

You understand that Jesus believed that Noah did what Scripture said he did, right? You understand that Jesus believed in the ark, right? Check out MAtthew 24 and Luke 17 to see for yourself. Again, if you're not a Christian, I can understand you laughing at the foolish gullibility of Jesus.

Other writers of Scripture likewise believed in the account: Hebrews 11:7, I Peter, 3:20, and II Peter 2:5, for example. Of course, the writers of the Old Testament likewise believed this account: Isaiah and Ezekiel, for example.

If you are a Christian, you might want to reconsider your approach to something Scripture clearly respects as historical fact.

The Ark measured 300x50x30 cubits (Genesis 6:15), which is about 140x23x13.5 metres or 459x75x44 feet

The largest wooden ship ever built was the Wyoming in the early 1900s. It was 350 feet long, had iron bands to hold the wood together, a powered bilge pump to stay ahead of the leaks, and it sunk in a storm.

but I will point out that I don't think ANYONE proposes that Noah took dinosaurs on the Ark.

I believe Kent Hovind ("Dr. Dino") does.

If it didn't happen why are there stories of a flood from every culture in the world? China has a story that is almost exactly the same.

Maybe just about everywhere you go, there's been at least one traumatic flood? Flooding is hardly a rare event.

I've taken a view that when the world was destroyed by The Great Flood, it meant the "known world". Which at the time was not very big. Thus the Flood of Gilgamesh could have been the Great Flood. It's like God creating the world in seven days. As if one of God's days are 24 hours.

Au contraire, the history of earth IS ruled by fables and miracles, be they religious in nature or scientific. Truly even in this day we know so very little.

That is about the same conclusion I came to

After finding out the Atlantians had hot and cold running water and indoor toilets with a sophisticated septic system, I'll believe just about anything.

With the number of True Arks found, one must assume that Noah's Flotilla would be a better name.

"I've taken a view that when the world was destroyed by The Great Flood, it meant the "known world". Which at the time was not very big. Thus the Flood of Gilgamesh could have been the Great Flood."

Genesis 6:17

And behold, I Myself am bringing floodwaters on the earth, to destroy from under heaven all flesh in which is the breath of life; everything that is on the earth shall die.

That seems to indicate the entire earth was flooded, if one concludes that if there were other parts of earth they had life forms on them also.

You sure dodge the question when you are asked for some proof.

Proof of what? That you're arguing from faith? That's the only claim I've made this whole thread.

As far as proving to your satisfaction that Noah's Ark exists, I'm afraid you've made that impossible. No proof could ever break your faith. What use logic in the face of dogma?

"because the scientific method builds upon actual discoveries and facts, things that are not open to interpretation or subjectivity. "

Be careful, CS. All data are theory-laden, including those used by mainstream science to affirm evolution. If the history of science is any guide, then our cutting-edge theories of today will look incredibly naive within 100 years.

At this point, Sloth, the only point in arguing with him is for the sake of the folks reading the thread.

"The conclusion about the ark has to be that it never existed as there is zero proof or evidence about one. None has ever been put up for the last 5000 or so years, nothing. No fossil records, no geologic records, no records in the DNA of all living animals."

So life did not exist thousands of years ago.....and yet there are living things on the Earth. How do you explain that?

Also, the DNA you mention.....how did it get coded in the first place?
