Spot on.

So many people have no perspective. They think the world is going to hell and that it has never been so bad. They have no idea... Plenty of anecdotes, but no data to back it up.

I'd like to see a graph of violent deaths as a percentage of total population, by decade, for the past 1000 or so years. I am guessing there would be a pretty clear downward trend.

Very interesting. I didn't know that most Americans were even award of the claims of end times teachings, but a majority, agrees!? Amazing.

Art Bell listeners perhaps. I remember he was delving into that topic back in the 1980's.

Wasn't this the poll that was commissioned by Joel C Rosenberg and printed in the appendix of his just out nonfiction book:

EPICENTER?

If so, I think you'd best give him credit.

"And at risk of sounding stupid, they just won't say it."

In church or in public? Because I have heard it all my life in church.

It is written in the Bible afterall. I've come across few people who openly talk about it amongst their peers in public, but I've read about it in the Bible and heard it taught in the Church.

From EPICENTER p. 50:

"The poll was conducted by the respected firm of McLaughlin & Associates, founded by John McLaughlin, who works with some of the world's leading business and political leaders, including Steve Forbes, Benjamin Netanyahu, and Speaker of the House Dennis Hastert.16"

The poll is printed in full on pp269-273 in Appendix 2 of EPICENTER. Which, BTW, is a great read.

Several of his novels turned out to be predictive--such as of 9/11 and a number of other major events involving Israel.

. . . . Joel C Rosenberg

St Malachy, I think.

And, I believe the current Pope is thereby calculated to be the last true, good Pope with the evil one coming next.

There's also an egotistical desire to believe there is something absolutely unique about the time one lives in, I think.
= = = =

I wonder how that compares with the snooty, haughty egotistical desire to look down one's nose at those who believe that the overwhelming evidence is UNIQUELY evident in this era compared to all others of the last 2,000 years.

That at best, other eras might have had 2-4 factors in the critical direction while this era has 100's of data points indicating that we are indeed in the 'last days.'

Read the book.

The Bible, first.

But EPICENTER is full of facts indicating that we are in that era.

Many of his facts are from his highly placed sources around the world--especially in DC, Russia and Israel.

"More or less, we won't know the exact time. The Bible doesn't say we won't be able to figure out when it's near. We were given all the signs that would lead up to Christ second coming.
Mt 24:34 - I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened.

It will happen in a generation. Ever generation since Christ has had some of the signs, but, we are the only generation since Christ to see the Jews returning to Israel and establishing it as there home land again. Many other prophecys have been or are in the process of being fullfilled. One of them that sticks out in my mind is this one: Da 12:4 - "But you, Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book until the time of the end; many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase."

Here's another one: Rev. 11:9 - For three and a half days they'll be there - exposed, prevented from getting a decent burial, stared at by the curious from all over the world. This verse reminds me that everyone all over the world can view news instantly. What generation before us was able to do that? Things are escalating very quickly now."

Yep, pretty interesting. Don't disagree at all.

When you say "More or less, we won't know the exact time. The Bible doesn't say we won't be able to figure out when it's near." The Scriptures tell we won't know the time, but you will know the season--just as in the example of the tree that was blooming--you know spring and summer are near.

"we are the only generation since Christ to see the Jews returning to Israel and establishing it as there home land again."

Yes, this is true. But God could take Israel away from the Jews for another couple of hundred years and then give it back. We don't know the mind of God, so it's possible. This will also reinforce the Scripture "where's the promise of his coming..." Personally, I don't think it will happen this way, but it could. And I still would have faith in God regardless. But many would fade away I'm afraid. This is why I always say "we could be, not we are, living in the last days" because we don't know the mind of God. If God doesn't take Israel away from the Jews again, then I'd say it's pretty close to the end of the age...

Apparently it is not unusual for each generation to worry that it is the last generation. If the likes of Iran get nuclear weapons and the left continue to offer comfort to terrorists hellbent on destroying Western Civilization, then perhaps it is time to worry.

Jim Jones felt that way, and did his best to pull down his world with himself. He was, however, a bit of an exception to the rule. Normally, when possessed by a case of apocalyptic vapors, believers go into the "Chicken Little" mode, an addictive death-spiral of tea leaf reading that pretty well ends their credibility and fruitfulness.

Historically, apocalyptic hysteria flares up in the aftermath of political setbacks for Christians. It is not a good or healthy thing. It's pretty morbid when a love for Jesus, and longing to see Him again, translates into a desire to see bad things happen to our neighbors. Our fellow human beings become expendable stage furniture.

Stereotypic assumptions and straw dogs such as the IQ nonsense are

distasteful AT BEST.

I've met many a "hay seed" who was smarter than many a PhD I've known amongst my colleagues.

Personally, I tend to correlate haughty arrogance with low IQ whether the IQ is measured by the standard tests, or not. Given God's standard as the absolute maximized "IQ" and HIS PRIORITIES re humility vs arrogance and haughtiness . . . I consider it more than a little dumb to haughtily, arrogantly, snootily dismiss folks

who

take His Word at face value and trust Him to have said what He meant and meant what He said.

And, in terms of the topic of the thread, those two issues are relative nonsense, more straw dogs.

Asians are FAR LESS CULTURALLY exposed to such teachings, as a rule.

Blacks are FAR MORE CULTURALLY exposed to such teachings, as a rule.

Those two facts are INDEPENDENT OF THE IQ VARIABLE.

Implying, asserting, declaring a causal relationship is

1. NOT BORN OUT BY THE FACTS
2. DISINGENUOUS
3. HAUGHTY
4. ARROGANT
5. SNOOTY
6. DECEPTIVE
7. DISPICABLE
8. IMMATURE
9. UNCHRISTIAN
10. SILLY

. . . in style, in substance, in tone, in fact.
