Fox News accused of lying about anti-Clinton ad ban

Spot in dispute challenges ex-president's assertion he strongly fought terror threat --WND

The nation's largest pro-troop organization claims Fox News is lying about the reason the network rejected an ad countering ex-President Bill Clinton's recent assertions about his efforts to combat Islamic terrorism.

A spokesman for Fox News previously told WND that the advertisement made a claim about Clinton that wasn't documented, so the ad wasn't accepted.

"That's standard operating procedure for Fox News," he said. "If there's something (like that) in an ad, we ask for documentation for it."

"The claim by the Fox News Channel spokesman is not correct," said Move America Forward spokesman Joe Wierzbicki. "They did not ask for substantiation. "In fact, they told us there was no way to defend the allegations."

The ad in dispute can be seen at the group's website, or via YouTube.

As WND reported, Clinton erupted several weeks ago in a televised interview on Fox when he was asked whether his administration had done all it could to capture or destroy Osama bin Laden

Jabbing his finger at his interviewer he heatedly said that he had done more and gotten closer to destroying bin Laden than anyone else. That statement has since been contradicted by former CIA experts, who said Clinton probably missed at least eight opportunities for removing bin Laden from the terror war.

That was the issue, the Fox official said, that caused the rejection. Documentation about Clinton's knowledge of bin Laden's location during his presidency was required for that ad to air, he said.

"We asked for documentation to back up that claim, and the organization was not able to provide it," he told WND.

But the comment to WND is prompting a harsh response from Move America Forward.

Wierzbicki stresses, "Fox News Channel did not ask at any time for documentation, otherwise the organization would have been happy to provide it, and stands ready to do so. Including, for example, the 9/11 Commission report, recent statements by CIA bin Laden group agent, Michael Scheuer, and endless news accounts detailing the Clinton administration's actions following several terrorist attacks against United States interests."

MAF provided WND an excerpt of an e-mail from a Fox News representative, which reads: "Just got word from NY that we cannot run the Clinton commercial as there is no way to defend the allegations."

A business decision that might destroy Fox's reputation among conservatives? He must feel left out of the club and is willing to dump Fox in order to get back in the graces of his peers.

He's still dumping a ton of money into The Weekly Standard, which is a money loser.

However, I've never read a political quote by him that stood out as more than moderate conservative.

I don't think he really has any peers? There aren't exactly a lot of billionaire global media moguls, are there? I mean, what we're talking about with Murdoch is global reach with movies, books, television, radio, magazines, etc. etc. etc. A significant percentage of the world's population consumes one or more News Corp products almost daily.

Thankfully, there's Fox!! -- the one and only news organization that will not succumb to the Clinton's media management tactics.

I think the refusal to run the ad comes directly from Hillary's influence on Murdoch. My guess is that Hillary has targeted Murdoch for "friendship" so that Fox doesn't run anything negative about her come '08 and because she wants money from him if she can get it. What she may be giving in return is access generated by the Clinton imprimatur. In other words, Murdoch is in the tank now that his empire is a fortress.

It's time to promote Brit Hume again.

Murdoch is also chummy with Al Bore www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1715347/posts In this post, "Al Gore, the former US vice-president, is bringing his user-generated content television channel to the UK, courtesy of James Murdoch’s British Sky Broadcasting." JAMES Murdoch is the son of Rupert Murdoch of Fox News.

I hope someone like Brit Hume plays this banned Ad on his show... After all, it's News that FoxNews won't show it as a commercial.

Banned Ads always seem to get More airplay when they've been banned!

Rove you magnificent B*^%@#D!!! HeHe!

Thankfully we have YouTube. I don't know that this ad is particularly effective, but there is no slander in this ad and therefore no need for documentation. I assume Fox is concerned they are being tagged by the Democrat National Media as a Republican mouthpiece. There concern is understandable.

Fox tries to be as balanced as possible to attract viewers. MAF doesn't have the resources for a major media buy. It is telling that they didn't solicit the rat media. MAF was counting on controversy to spread on the rat media. I think Fox fears the bad publicity, and losing moderate viewers. They decided the ad revenue wasn't worth the loss in viewers. That's show business.

The downside to refusing the ad is minimal. As long as Fox remain on the right of the drive-by media they will attract the majority of conservatives and a large share of moderates. What are disaffected conservatives to do...watch CNN? I don't think so. That would be like disgruntled conservatives voting rat this year.

It is conceivable they think controversy over refusing to take the ad could further enhance Fox's image as "objective and unbiased."

Personally I'm disappointed Fox doesn't move to the right. If they could put on a show like Rush Limbaugh, I think their ratings would double.

>"Clinton really did drop the ball & miss many opportunities to capture bin Laden & the so called War on Terrorism was nowhere on his radar."

That's not entirely true.

Toonboy defended us against that eminant threat of the blood thirsty butchers of the Branch Davidians that threatened to take over the world.

He also saved us from the Overwhelming Invasion Force of One, Elian.

Without his heroic efforts we all might have been taken over by the oppressive totalitarian dictatorship of Randy Weaver of Ruby Ridge.

Just these 3 examples, show he has done more than any one else ever could. Why if even one of these threats had succedded, our entire free press would have been compromised, as none of them would have been free to report what actually happened.

I know I sleep much better at night knowing he has proteced the planet from these scourges!

I agree. I find myself watching Fox less each day. I'm tired of them holding an index finger to the wind to try to determine which political direction the wind is blowing on any given day. I get all of my news from the internet. I think most conservatives do these days.

I agree with the above - ads always draw more attention when they don't make the air...

Anyway, I think it is a good thing that FNC checks into all the facts of every commercial that goes on the network. That is part of being fair and balanced, in my book.

I'm just about fed-up with Fox News. The morning show is a 2 hour 'morning zoo'. The afternoon shows are hosted by dim-wits..ie E.D. Hill and others. Every 3.5 minutes they have a 'Foxs News Alert'..ENOUGH OF THOSE, I'm jumpy enough.

I have seen attack ads this quarter that make that thing look like a hallmark card.

*shrug*

So have I. That's why I fail to understand why Fox News won't run it.

And then to lie about why they won't run it, that's even worse. What's going on over there?
