ITHACA NY—Vandalism of its War Memorials on the eve of Veterans Day has some Ithaca residents questioning the patriotism of their neighbors in this largely anti-war, liberal, community.
According to WHCU radio, visitors to Ithaca's DeWitt, park, home of the Tompkins County War Memorials, found graffiti on the memorials Friday night:
The World War One Monument Had Obscenities, Racial Slurs And Drug And Gang References Written On It In What Appeared To Be Black Marker. The Names “Heather G” And “Ashley R” Were Written On The World War Two Memorial.
The vandalism was discovered hours before the county's annual Veterans Day ceremony was to be held at the site. The timing of the vandalism has prompted some residents to speculate that the extreme liberal views of many in Ithaca may be tied to the graffiti. Writing in the online Ithaca Journal, one community member asked:
Why do Ithacans hate this country so much and have such disdain and disrespect for those who risk and have given their lives to defend it? It's sickening that this event is just the status quo here.
Another noted that previous vandalism of military-related sites in the area had been applauded by anti-war activists:
Didn't we just have people who vandalized the recruitment center with blood poured on the flag, and many Ithacans wanted to push them as hero's. I am sure the argument will be made that it wasn't for the same thing, but the result is the same. At some point people will stop letting the "we can do anything we want" sect think what they do is okay.
George Pierro, a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America, told the Journal that vandalism of the War Memorials is a common problem in Ithaca:
“This isn't the first time it's happened, but it seems like the worst time, from what I've been told. This is going to be a lot harder to clean up,” Pierro said, adding that in the past people had used the back of the WWI memorial as a latrine.
And this surprises exactly who?
They win an election and you expect them not to celebrate.
The libs will cluck that this was not in any way motivated by by idealogy. They will conveniently ignore that the entire city culture is designed to applaud anti-Americanism, civil disobedience and shunning personal responsibility. They will forget that hippies have, in the past, overtly vandalized recruiting centers and American flags and gotten off scot free in the liberal court system. They will hope we don't remember they work every day to indoctrinate the community's children to think of soldiers the same way John Kerry does.

Seattle ain't much better. The day after the election some wannabee civil rights marcher, short haired mean faces liberal female got in out face about throwing a drunken male off of the city bus. He had pushed a guy and also wouldn't sit down.
He fell on the driver at one point and wouldn't listen to her.
Bus ops calls 911 and we show up. She demands all our names and says we can't throw him off of the bus "he didn't do anything."
Whatever. "Should we believe the drunk or the bus driver?"
He couldn't even tell us his address, he was so wasted.
She, no doubt, was emboldened by the election results to, "speak truth to power."
It wasn't my call, and my Sgt was there talking to her when I arrived, so I didn't do what I wanted to do. The driver was black and the drunk and the liberal female were white.
I wanted to accuse her of being racist in her support of the white drunk over the black bus driver.
That would have twisted her into knots and I would have loved it.

I read the article you posted about vandalism at a Marine station. I think we are seeing the beginning of a trend.
Those aren't your average liberals. Those are far-left extremists.

I do know a few liberals who proudly fly the flag but by and large liberals seem to think any display of national pride, respect for veterans, or partriotism is just jingoistic.
Why aren't these people taught to respect the service of veterans?
I was just reading a point that was brought up in another thread...Did you ever notice that you will never see a car that has a Kerry sticker and a yellow ribbon? It's sort of like those side by side pictures of a Bush rally and a Kerry rally. Not a single flag to be seen at the Kerry rally.
You may want to thank your only-conservative-during-elections Republican leaders as well.
It might be a burden to them to stop thinking about themselves for a moment and actually think about the sacrafices of others.
