For any of you who haven't read this thread yet, do be sure to check out the link at the bottom of the thread to the Fran O'Brien's update by Andi of Andi's World. She gives details about our FRiends Hal Koster and Jim Mayer, who have been holding the dinners even without the restaurant as a home base. Also, here is a link about the "Milkshake Man" that really warms the heart.

Great AAR as usual, although I hadn't realized the wheelchair woman had passed on. I confess that I saw Plea Deal listed in the competition but there's something about the mental image of little ballerinas dancing with cardboard cutouts of their dads that snagged my heart and vote for chnhwk/CJ/soldierperspective.

God bless all you stalwart street-freeper troop supporters!

Thanks DC Freepers. You are great examples of the 15% I believe "get it". Sadly there aren't more, but with folks like you out there each week we can increase our numbers.

Hi! I'm not sure if I should post the following on a separate thread, but I received this in an e-mail today.(I don't know how old this story is, but it still brought tears. Could you ping to it? Here it is....

In Texas we really do pull off the road and stop for funerals......nobody moves until the last car has gone by.

What follows is a message from Vicki Pierce about her nephew James' funeral (he was servi ng our country in Iraq):

"I'm back, it was certainly a quick trip, but I have to also say it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. There is a lot to be said for growing up in a small town in Texas. The service itself was impressive with wonderful flowers and sprays, a portrait of James, his uniform and boots, his awards and ribbons. There was lots of military brass and an eloquent (though inappropriately longwinded) Baptist preacher. There were easily 1000 people ! at the service, filling the church sanctuary as well as the fellowship hall and spilling out into the par king l ot.

However, the most incredible thing was what happened following the service on the way to the cemetery. We went to our cars and drove to the cemetery escorted by at least 10 police cars with lights flashing and some other emergency vehicles, with Texas Rangers handling traffic. Everyone on the road who was not in the procession, pulled over, got out of their cars, and stood silently and respectf ully, s ome put their hands over their hearts.

When we turned off the highway suddenly there were teenage boys along both sides of the street about every 20! feet o r so, all holding large American flags on long flag poles, and again with their hands on their hearts. We thought at first it was the Boy Scouts or 4H club or something, but it continued ... for two and a half miles. Hundreds of young people, standing silently on the side of the road with flags. At one point we pass ed an elementary school, and all the children were outside, shoulder to shoulder holding flags . kindergartners, handicapped, teachers, staff, everyone. Some held signs of love and support. Then came teenage girls and younger boys, all holding flag! s. Then adults. Then families. All standing silently on the side of the road. No one spoke, not even the very young children.

The military presence..at least two generals, a fist full of colonels, and representatives from every branch of the service, plus the color guard who attended James, and some who served with him .. was very impressive and respectful, but the love and pride from this community who had lost one of their own was the most amazing thing I've ever been privileged to witness.

I've attached some pictures, some are blurry (we were moving), but you can get a small idea of what this was like. Thanks so much for all the prayers and support."

These photos are awesome !! Will post the photos on following post.

I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner, but now we're back from Walter Reed...

To post a photo, you need to have the image "hosted" somewhere. Go to www.allyoucanupload.com, and follow the step-by-step instructions to upload your images there (it's FREE). Once uploaded there, you will then be able to copy (with one simple mouse click) the link to the image. Then you paste that link into your comment where you want the image to be; and presto-chango, there's your picture.
:-)

I hope this helps.

Thanks to everyone who has voted. We're still in the lead, but a LOT can happen in 4 days, so please keep spreading the word. And thank you again for voting. I will personally deliver the money to Camp Lejeune and post pictures of the ballerinas on my blog.

It worked; and thank you for posting them. They are a beautiful reminder that most Americans are good people. (We only seem to hear about the bad ones on the MSM reporting.)
