My aunt and uncle sent this out to our family at 6:30 AM today. Carrie is my young cousin, a very gifted artist, and the second eldest among her siblings. She and her family are in Michigan.
Prayer reqeust from my aunt and uncle (Carrie is their granddaughter).
This morning on her way to work Carrie's car slid on the highway and into a tree. She has very bad injuries, especially to her head. Her brain is swelling and she is now in surgery. They plan to open her skull to allow for the swelling, and she is not responding.They don't give her parents a lot of hope. We are telling everyone so you can join us in praying for our dear Caroline. They called her parents about 7:45 this morning and they're at the hospital now.
Ours is to pray. Ours is to pray, believing without a doubt that the healing has already been appointed. Ours is to pray, believing that the victory has been won. We need not worry about when or where. We already know how and why. O Lord, accept our thanks and our praise for we know that nothing can take away from sweet Carrie that which You have already appropriated for her. Ours is to wait in peace and in thankfulness, knowing that it is done. Yours O Lord is the greatness, and the power, and the majesty, and the victory. As we pause to thank You and to think of Your incomprensible greatness, let us be still and know that You are God. We are Your servants who love You, in the Name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

What a great update Gretchen. The Lord continually brings Carrie to mind for me to pray as I work around the house during the day. I thank Him for His faithfulness to this precious young woman. I am also impressed with the loyalty and love her boyfriend is showing in watching over and caring for her too as well as her parents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and I am sure many of her church family.God’s Love really DOES make a difference.

I am so glad to see that she finally had her surgery to fix her head. It also sounds like she is surrounded not only by loving family and friends...but are getting some good nurses, that are taking more than just cursory care of dear Carrie.
I keep Carrie in my thoughts and prayers, along with her family.

I have felt an especially strong and insistent prayer rising out of me more and more lately that God will restore Carrie's eye sight completely. If you have a particular prayer that you find yourself praying, a specific prayer target, please feel free to post it. I think that will help and encourage others.
From Carrie's sister and brother-in-law Greetings all,
The 4 month mark from Caroline’s accident was May 25th. There are so many remarkable accomplishments taking place and we certainly want to express our tremendous thanks for standing with us during this trial. What a blessing in spite of all the overwhelming difficulties to have faith and to have friends.
- Nurses have been instructed to leave her alone at night, and as a result, she is more active during the day and is showing stronger sleep/wake patterns overall
- She is re-learning how to swallow and therefore has not needed to have extra secretions in her lungs suctioned. This procedure used to be done nearly every hour, and she hasn’t needed it at all in more than 2 weeks!
- She has been able to crush ice cubes in her mouth and swallow
- Her body is accepting organic blends of fresh food – which is much better for her than processed nutritional drinks
- Carrie had a successful surgery Tuesday to install the portion of her skull plate that was removed the morning of the accident!!
- With the skull plate fully in place, Carrie holds her head in a central position, rather than leaning to the right, and her eyes seem more focused. Dad says Carrie seems “more there” somehow =)
- Both of her eyes are open at the same level, and her pupils are equal in size.
- She seems more responsive to her surroundings – she even seemed startled when a door in the other room was slammed.
- Friends stop by every single day to pray over her, read to her, exercise her muscles and even help with grooming.
On a cute note: last Tuesday night, when Carrie had to spend the night in the hospital after her surgery, the nurses fixed her bed to an armchair position and they turned American Idol on in the room, so Carrie could catch up on the big season finale even in this state. She’s able to hold her head up by herself in this position and even though her legs were dangling off the edge of the “chair” she seemed perfectly comfortable and her vitals remained stable.
Let’s thank God for bringing Caroline this far!
Father, you are all knowing and all powerful. Thank you for resting your hand on Caroline during these past 4 months and breathing healing into her body. Thank you for the many baby steps toward recovery. We ask that you will continue to send a spirit of faith and comfort to the home. Surround Caroline, every family member, and the many friends that love her, with your peace.
We give glory to God whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine. Glory to God from generation to generation, in the Church and in Christ Jesus, for ever and ever. Amen. [Ephesians 3.20-21]
Somehow it doesn’t surprise me that Carrie is doing so wonderfully. With her strength combined with the love and care of loving people and the prayers of the faithful, how can she go wrong? We’re still with you, Carrie!
