What's Happening to Conservative Websites?
vanity | 3-7-07 | Bob J

I have diligently watched the rise in size and influence of conservative websites, including Free Republic, over the last 7-8 years. I have been shocked and concerned over the drop in traffic at the most popular ones over the last year or so. There was good growth up until 2006 but since then there has been a steady downtrend that would crash any other market.

Anyone have any ideas as to what is happening? I'm out of explanations. The deficiencies in alexa.com are noted, but even if the numbers aren't accurate you're still comparing off numbers to off numbers so the decline is consistent.

I personally got tired of the hysteria against illegals. All hysteria, all the time.

Amen to that. The border bots try to hijack every thread and make it about illegals and if you don't agree with them, they attack you and some even threaten you.

After the primaries, I imagine it will be us -vs- them again.

Once the liberals succeeded in getting us to fight amongst ourselves, instead of against them, things changed.

I think you're right. I find it really depressing that certain posters crack me up ... I've had so much fun here ... and now, there's this huge divide. I don't want to insult anyone, period, but especially not people whose posts I've loved to read, just because we disagree on who should be the Rep nominee.

It's sad, really. I suppose you could argue it's healthy ... but "healthy" debate that occurs in the "social vacuum" that is the Internet (I say that b/c there's not a lot of face to face talk)... quickly becomes vicious.

You're 100% correct.

How many kook threads do we have to see every day claiming that President Bush is preparing to turn control of the U.S. over to Mexico?

As you said, you are not alone. Look at post #20 for validation of your position.

Amazing!

now-a-days you cannot argue an issue.

If you blast Bush on the border and spending, etc..you get flamed.

If you support the War in Iraq- you get called a BushBot...

LOL!

too funny...

I wish we could all stick to issues and what is good for America instead of being "fans" of politicians are partisan party folks.....

I thought they were based on hits per 1 million in the population?

When self proclaimed conservatives attack and bash other conservatives as not being the "right kind" of conservative, you'll get people flipping their antagonist the bird and tuning out.

From the first sentence here
http://www.alexa.com/site/help/traffic_learn_more

it sounds like you need to have the Alexa toolbar to be counted. Who has an Alexa toolbar?

You seem here to divide rather than seek to unify.

Have you changed your mind yet, or are you still having fun reading my posting history?

Take your time.

I've noticed less folks on FR since I joined back in '04, but that was an election year around the time of "Rathergate".

Too many disruptors. All they do is all people names and argue about everything .. and especially when they have all their facts wrong. It's practically impossible to DISCUSS any topic.

What the matter with you retread, go away. Don't post to me anymore!!

:) You mean like that? Yep, we're all tired of it. Apparently some people have enough money to be obnoxious.

I think youare right. When you "alexa" and indidual website it looks like numbers per 1 million potential reach. When you compare websites it mvoes to %.

The inspiration is supposed to come before the choice is Hillary or Rudy.

AMEN TO THAT!

the primaries are so important...but then we get dragged into that whole-- we have to nominate someone who can win--- mentality.... sad thing is- 2/3 of America do want conservatives... and watching the religious right and the fiscal conservatives blame each other for all the problems is amazing....

I recommend we allow a number of liberals/democrats. Whatever the owner would allow. We would spice up the discussions and if the rules against personal attacks are enforced, we might have a civil discourse in which we can demonstrate the superiority of our positions.

bigsigh told me that some of the best threads were libertarian vs conservative. A little disagreement would add some flavor without surrendering the owner's or our beliefs or giving up the site as another DU.

Folks discovered they needed to work more and FReep less during their day jobs.

I rarely come on here and argue...just make comments and go...i know the people that are rabid on both sides of the Rudy issue...i just can't see the arguments Rudy supporters make are going to win any converts from staunch conservatives....maybe vice versa also....i have posted this before...let's please get all this arguing out before the primaries...after that, let's steer or keep the nominee to the right and kick the crap outta whoever the dem is.

Do you see the immigration issue reaching the destruction of Elian or Schiavo?

I believe DU'ers and others like MoveOn have infiltrated for the sole purpose of shuting down our conversations.

How do you weed them out ..?? Don't know!
