Thread 4

Since the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, our nation has fought a global war against violent extremists who use terrorism as their weapon of choice, and who seek to destroy our free way of life. Our enemies seek weapons of mass destruction and, if they are successful, will likely attempt to use them in their conflict with free people everywhere. Currently, the struggle is centered in Iraq and Afghanistan, but we will need to be prepared and arranged to successfully defend our nation and its interests around the globe for years to come. DOD

Our enemies include all the Muslims who dream of knocking Western Civilization off its perch atop humanity’s dung heap. Islam is fractured into any number of sects, tribes and ethnic groups, but the dream of destroying us cuts across all the fault lines. Islamic terrorists are merely the tip of a very large spear.

J. Peter Mulhern, the American Thinker, September 18

The determination behind that fight is real, the hatred is real, and the excuses for doing this are very real in the minds of those who have decided to walk that path. We can respond in two ways: Try to ignore or negotiate with people who do not want to negotiate in good faith, because what they want is our destruction, or to stand up against the darkness of those who see all of us, our way of life, our culture and our aspirations as something worth eliminating.

Either: "And God willing, with the force of God behind it, we shall soon experience a world without the United States and Zionism," Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Or: "With vigilance, determination, courage, we will defeat the enemies of freedom, and we will leave behind a more peaceful world for our children and our grandchildren." GW Bush.

Here's where I will post news and info about the Long War. Let me know if you're interested.

” You know I respect your input. “

I have a sneaking suspicion that the reason you included me on the ping-list for that thread might be that you *knew* that I would be a bomb-thrower to stir things up....

Mission accomplished.....

lol...not this time, seriously. I prepared some moving forward points on the previous and very long thread. I’m simply doing what I offered. It’ll probably get some talk going, but I won’t be there watching to referee. I totally respect someone speaking up when they feel compelled, just as I did on the last thread.

Just a thought.....

With all this turmoil, some Hamas/AQ/Hezzy wiseguy could almost think that it would be a perfect time to get in some serious hits on Israel.

Only things working against that are that those groups have spent the bulk of their time lately hitting each other, Syria/Iran have reduced their profiles (which also may be the reason for the increase in intramural homicides) and I’m sure that the IDF and other “little friends in the area” are all spun up and ready to counter anything remotely sinister.

TERRORISM: AL-QAEDA ‘DEVELOPING NEW ARMS’, REPORT
adnkronosinternational ^ | 7 May 2007 | AKI

Baghdad, 7 May (AKI) - Al Qaeda in Iraq is involved in developping new arms and using new techniques to carry out its terrorist attacks, according to sources within the Iraqi insurgency, quoted by the Egyptian Islamic press agency al-Naba. According to the agency’s internet site, after creating new missiles able to strike US combat helicopters with greater precision, the al-Qaeda network is seeking new methods, different from the characteristic suicide attacks or car bombs.

Last week a cell of al-Qaeda active in Kurdistan reportedly tried for the first time to use a remote-controlled aircraft to carry out an attack, with the headquarters of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) in Suleimaniya the target.

The attack was however foiled. Kurdish sources say that the police had found out about the plan before it could be carried out. Despite this Iraqi security forces are said to be concerned by the technical progress made by the followers of al-Qaeda in Iraq in developing weapons and in their guerilla techniques.

During the first months of the year, the terrorist formation is reported to have downed 10 US helicopters in the space of a wek weeks. In parallel they developed chemical weapons and carried out at least three attacks in the area of Falluja, using chlorine gas.

The first known attempt to detonate a vehicle bomb with chlorine gas occurred in Ramadi on 28 January though the sixteen deaths were not believed caused by the chlorine.

The next chlorine gas attack was a suicide bomb in Ramadi on 19 February 19, while several days later, another bomber detonated a chlorine tanker truck in Taji, north of Baghdad, just a few days later.

American forces also found a large quantity of chlorine and other chemicals in Karma, a location near Falluja.

Blast cuts Russia-EU gas pipeline
AFP ^ | 05/07/07

Posted on 05/07/2007 10:25:43 AM CDT by nypokerface

KIEV (AFP) - An explosion Monday in Ukraine knocked out of service one of the main pipelines exporting Russian natural gas to the European Union, the Ukrainian emergency situations ministry told AFP.

A “large explosion” cut the pipeline, which carries Siberian gas through Ukraine to Germany and other EU clients, ministry spokeswoman Viktoria Ruban said.

The blast occurred at about 1125 GMT on a section near the Ukrainian capital Kiev, she said.

A 30-metre (32-feet) length of pipeline was torn off, with debris hurled 150 metres away.

There was no immediate information regarding the effect of the incident on deliveries to the European Union, the biggest foreign gas market for Russia, the world’s leading natural gas producer.

....sure doesn’t look to me like anything a truck bomb would cause.
