Failure to secure the borders.
Amnesty.

Those two right there cost the GOP in 2006 and will burn the rest of the GOP out in 2008.

I just think he’s politically naive (still!), obsessed with being nice and civil — and was never, nor did he really claim to be, that conservative.

Most conservatives are Republicans; unfortunately, most Republicans aren’t conservatives.

The failure to treat the threat of Radical Islam is the number one issue to address.

Failure? We haven't been hit since 9/11. That's gotta be good for something.

So they shoulda gone to the polls & voted for who? Lindsey Graham? Arlen Spectre? George flippin Bush?

Any of them are imminently preferable to Speaker Pelosi and Senator Majority Leader Harry Reid.

I do not subscribe to the "throw them all out, it can't get any worse" attitude. That, and the negativity that accompanies it, brought us Ross Perot, and Bill Clinton for two terms. This brought us even more empowered Islamic radicals, with whom we've had to deal since.

I still don’t understand why the Republicans catch so much flack for the error of their ways but the Dems get a pass. Why do we punish our people and put in Dems who are far far worse?

"The vast majority of people cast their presidential votes because of vague emotional feelings towards the candidate, not because of specific bills."

Perhaps.

So tell me then, do you think that, say, McCain can win despite his shameless flacking for open borders and amnesty for illegal alien lawbreakers? In other words, that your "vast majority" will simply ignore that outrage and vote for him due to their favorable but "vague emotional feelings" toward him?

Quick answer? All of the above. I’m not giving up, though. I have faith and hope in Hunter and Thompson.

Jim, good question, but I think the game is rigged. I used to laugh at people who said there's not a dime's worth of difference in the parties. Well...the only difference I can see since Reagan, with the exception of the mid-90's House, is who gets the spoils of victory.

The bi-factional ruling party just alternates their reigns to keep supporters paid off and paying off. And they will commit the betrayal--and in many cases, such as today, deliberate treason--to maintain their elite status.

The biggest problem I see with the negativity represented here is that even good Repubs. get caught in the crossfire, and the entire country suffers.

I just said this before, and now I'll repeat it: There is no longer any qualitative difference. No matter which of the two major parties I vote for in the next election, I am never going to get what I, as a conservative, actually want. The Democrats are openly and honestly opposed to everything I stand for; at this point, I would prefer voting for them to voting for another G.O.P.-tard who tells me what I want to hear without the slightest intention of actually backing up all his fine words.

I think you nailed it. The public opinion war. Our people are such wimps.

We are going to win this 2008 election, Jim.

Gotta' disagree, pissant. It's the dems' turn for 8 years at the spoils. Whoever we nominate will be Bob Dolesque cannon fodder. The Republicans will be back in 2016 (if the US is still here). They will be reincarnated as overt socialists, rather than covert socialists, but it will be their turn then.

So the folks are going to vote in people who are worse? Why?

Because the people who were slightly better weren't going to give us a single goddamn thing we wanted anyway, so what's the difference?
