Philadelphia - A travelling exhibition on King Tutankhamun drew about 50 protesters in Philadelphia who denounced the popular display as racist.
Molefi Asante, a professor of African-American studies at Temple University, led the demonstration on Sunday outside the Franklin Institute, claiming the exhibit has no mention of Africa and that it suggests the ancient Egyptian king was white.

Was?..........She ain’t dead yet!...........
“there is nothing on earth like a fat white Italian communist telling you what it truly means to be black. Nothing”
Perhaps the best line ever put onto free republic..
NO> Jewish, At least by injection.
Actually, it does - to those people who know Egypt is in Africa.
Egyptian art typically portrays Nubians are black-skinned and Egyptians are effectively red-skinned. The Egyptians clearly thought of themselves as “not as dark as those African fellows”. Same is true today. Swarthy? Yes. Black? No.
A little shortening up to fit the size restrictions and I think you've got one heck of a tagline there.
Just one question, what's a nubian? /reference :-)
Cheers,

Another angle of the same image:
All representative of typical North African, not white as some suggest..
Considering the concept of “Africa” didn’t exist at that time..
“I suppose Cleopatra was black as were all her Greek ancestors?.......”
Shame on those racists who call Cleopatra Greek!!Cleopatra was MACEDONIAN, and there was a very clear distinction made in Alexandria between those of MACEDONIAN descent—particularly among the rulers—and the GREEK commoners of the populace!
As for Tut, WE HAVE HIS BODY! We don’t have to be in any doubt as to what he was. We can do DNA tests or any other kinds of tests required.
But not ‘white’ as some suggest..
True... however, she did take Eddie Fisher away from Debbie Reynolds... and that didn't make her black either... or dead yet for that matter (note: this comment doesn't have to make sense... I have shelved any sense I had when I posted Liz's picture... and this thread also).
Africa for Africans only! /S
As for the topic at hand, "when I die..now don't think I'm a nut. Don't want no fancy funeral. Just one like Ol' King Tut!"
16 In that day the Egyptians will be like women. They will shudder with fear at the uplifted hand that the LORD Almighty raises against them.
17 And the land of Judah will bring terror to the Egyptians; everyone to whom Judah is mentioned will be terrified, because of what the LORD Almighty is planning against them.
18 In that day five cities in Egypt will speak the language of Canaan and swear allegiance to the LORD Almighty. One of them will be called the City of Destruction. [b]
19 In that day there will be an altar to the LORD in the heart of Egypt, and a monument to the LORD at its border.
20 It will be a sign and witness to the LORD Almighty in the land of Egypt. When they cry out to the LORD because of their oppressors, he will send them a savior and defender, and he will rescue them.
21 So the LORD will make himself known to the Egyptians, and in that day they will acknowledge the LORD. They will worship with sacrifices and grain offerings; they will make vows to the LORD and keep them.
22 The LORD will strike Egypt with a plague; he will strike them and heal them. They will turn to the LORD, and he will respond to their pleas and heal them.
23 In that day there will be a highway from Egypt to Assyria. The Assyrians will go to Egypt and the Egyptians to Assyria. The Egyptians and Assyrians will worship together.
24 In that day Israel will be the third, along with Egypt and Assyria, a blessing on the earth.
25 The LORD Almighty will bless them, saying, "Blessed be Egypt my people, Assyria my handiwork, and Israel my inheritance."
Well who axed you? hehe
The correct spelling is: AX...as in, ax me a question’.
I always thought Sub-Africa, ie, below the Sahara desert was Black....North was always non-Black...I could be wrong.
If this is true, the Prof. is lacking in geographical skills to say nothing of common sense.
Thanks. Not kidding about the “communist” part- she had stacks of pamphlets lying around the classroom... fliers for Mad Day protests and other radical groups. She didn’t hand them out, but they were there for the taking (circa 1990).
