Rudy Giuliani, whose positions on abortion and homosexuality mark him as the most socially liberal Republican presidential candidate in more than a generation, is so far winning the contest for the support of social conservatives, according to a new analysis of recent polls.
Widespread perceptions that Giuliani is the most electable Republican in this year's field are driving his support among social conservatives, according to the analysis by the Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life.
If the trend holds, this apparent willingness to support a candidate who fails what were once regarded as litmus-test issues would mark a landmark shift in the political behavior of a constituency that has been a pillar of the modern GOP. Already the shift is spurring sharp debate among prominent Christian conservative leaders, some of whom warn that Giuliani backers are abandoning core principles.

Other than that, he's a great candidate.
It is hard to believe that the GOP has nearly destroyed itself in a few short years. McCain Feingold was the beginning of the end, then the attempts to out-liberal the Democrats, then we are ready for a liberal Republican in Rudy, but in the end we won’t have to worry because once Bush signs the immigration bill the GOP dies quickly.

“The perfect is not the enemy of the good,” he says, arguing that Giuliani is still significantly closer to social conservatives on key issues than leading Democrats. After all, Land adds, social conservatives “understand they are voting for commander in chief, not Baptist in chief.”
Well, when Rudy first announced I supported him. Then I became educated about his beliefs and boy, that did it for me. This GRITS is not supporting a liberal like him who hates guns, is pro abortion, for immigration, etc. Then I did not know which candidate I would support but when Fred got in the picture, I thought he might be the one. I will just have to wait and see. I know the positions I will never ever support and that is very important.
I am OK with it....

Not a chance, after witnessing what gwb has done, I will not put up with four more years of seeing what I cae about trampled under foot by any so called “republican”.
Not gonna happen, I would rather vote Ron Paul than Rudy, which means that I hope Fred Runs, or Romney rises.

The only potential candidates I'd put after Rudy are Ron Paul and McPain.
Otherwise, it's an open field.
Rudy is a loser. We need a better candidate. Rudy will never make it. He will take important votes from the GOP. Not Rudy

No, sorry. I would agree, normally, that the perfect is the enemy of the good. But Rudy would not be good.
Less harm would be done allowing Hildabeast to be elected than electing a pro-abortionist on the Republican ticket, giving us two pro-abortion, pro-fetal experimentation, pro-gun-grabbing, pro-assisted-suicide, pro-gay/lesbian parties. That simply cannot be allowed to happen.
It would destroy the party and the conservative coalition.
Now, I don’t wan’t hillary in the White House, which means that I don’t want Rudy nominated. Cut him off before that happens, or it will end in total disaster.
Polling, at this point in an election cycle, is not about examining objective reality. It is about the cynical attempt to create it.
I thought I was a conservative until I figuired out some of you are out of your minds. I then discovered that I was really a republican who held some (mostly non-social) conservative beliefs.
