For a “Conservative” site, we have a lot of non-Conservative ideas here.

How is a private business offering a discount to the military a non-conservative idea?

Even taking into account income, most of the young NCO families almost have to resort to food stamps.

"Most" "almost" have to resort to food stamps? Wow...I just have to believe what you are saying then.

Except that I was enlisted for 9 years and never had to resort to public assistance.

"Here is a follow-up. I just received an e-mail from the AMC spokeswoman, and they will make discounted tickets available at Camp Lejeune, where my son is stationed, so that the military personnel there can purchase discounted tickets directly on the base."

Game...

Set...

And Match...

Good work!

"The fact that they are now willing to give the discounts through the military base but not at the box office tells me that somehow they are afraid of repercussions from the anti-military left if they post with the other discounts that they are giving one to the armed forces as well."

That "could" be it, but consider that this service has to be ran past the base commander and usually individuals like that make sure the people who are "supposed" to get services assigned for "Military Only" make sure exactly "that" happens.

Further, the service will be advertised ON the Base proper by way of arranging to have the discounts to be purchased their and of course the base commander will know that the AMC theater is reaching out to his soldiers. (we are talking Army here IIRC).

I would say it is more just sound thinking by AMC. I would not rush to assign nefarious dealings based on that bit of info alone.

Or they decided their minimum wage employees have a hard enough time doing their job without having to track a huge list of various ID types for which to give discounts.

Because you aren’t allowed an opinion unless your a veteran. Get a grip. USAF, Gulf War, big f’ing deal.

No what I said.

Just wondered if you had any understanding - not so much, really, of being a servicemen as being a human being with an appreciation of what the troops do for us. (I might be a bit edgy today as I just had a long conversation with my dear grandson, who is now in harms way in Afghanistan 0- Special Forces and in fierce firefights.)

I am an ole grandma - with 3 family members in the service - one a Navy Seal - head of platoon, demolitions, Baghdad. ...one due for deployment, and one I talked with today who is in Afganistan - Airborne Special Forces.

I don't think it's "entitlement" to show a tid-bit of appreciation to them - just to let them know we care.

Trying to bully a corporation into giving discounts is straight out of the Jackson/Sharpton handbook. If you don’t like AMC, then don’t watch movies there. That’s your right, just like it’s their right to give or not give discounts to whomever they please.

Sorry if I misread your previous post, but it certainly appeared that you were discounting another poster’s opininion unless he was a vet. My own belief is that everybody is entitled to an opinion regardless of their background.

Nearly every adult male in my family for the last 4 generations has been in the military at some point in their lives. My own son leaves for boot camp in September. That doesn’t make my opinion more worthwhile than a guy that’s never served a day in uniform.

Think of it this way, what would a soldier/sailor/marine appreciate more? A handshake and a thank you, or a corporation giving them a discount just to keep the money rolling in? Forcing anybody, or in this case, any corporation to be generous isn’t generosity at all, it’s just business and that goes back to this being about money, not honor.

Same here on the welfare. I had a wife and small child during my 4 years of enlistment. Money was tight, but we didn’t take hand outs. We tightened our belts and tried our best to live within our means.

I don’t know about an anti-military bias at AMC, but there seems to be a damned strong anti-civilian bias here at FR.

The ones who hoot and holler the loudest always seem to be the ones who have never been downrange...

Ah...the Veteran by proxy asking others about their service.

Why so rude?

We've progressed to the point on FR where pointing out that you have no argument is rude. Nice.

This isn’t about my posts. It is about you...the granny of military members...trying to use that to gain credibility. You have some nerve asking others what their experience and war theater is when you have NONE.
