Broward may cancel deal with radio station because it airs Rush Limbaugh
Sun-Sentinel ^ | 6/13/07 | Scott Wyman

Rush Limbaugh has long been a thorn in the side of liberals, but now, because of him, some Democratic politicians don't even want to join with a local radio station to broadcast hurricane information.

Radio station WIOD, AM 610, has been the official channel for emergency information from Broward County government for the past year. The County Commission, all Democrats, balked at renewing the deal Tuesday, unable to stomach the station also being home to Limbaugh's talk show.

Commissioner Stacy Ritter said she did not want to support a station that's out of step with area politics. Ritter, a Democratic stalwart in the state Legislature before being elected to county office, cited talk shows hosted by Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and WIOD's partnership with Fox News.

The deal with WIOD would ensure that news conferences are broadcast start to finish live from the county Emergency Operations Center in Plantation. Emergency managers became concerned during hurricanes in 2004 and 2005 that radio and television stations preempted their announcements in favor of news out of Miami

Thanks for your point. Try a sports station when you don’t care about professional sports.

If it gets to the point where there is no power or disaster is imminent, there is no programing. Why do we have to go with her assumption that all programs must be left or right? If a liberal left wing show had the ratings, it would be right on before or after rush.

30 years ago your point was valid.

In this day and age when you have so many alternatives it is just as outdated as complaining about the horse manure problem in the streets.

Respectfully.

I like how this gal uses the term [”out of step” with area politics]. Would that be lock-step, lol? Don’t liberals pride themselves on their platforms of “personal freedom” and “freedom of speech”, etc? A beautiful example of hypocrisy - hope Rush has fun with this one.

Our county commissioners don’t believe in freedom of speech any more than Hugo Chavez of Venezuela.

Why don't they believe in Chavez? I don't agree with the guy, but I pretty sure he is real.

This type of crap is one reason I sold my Fl. business and moved out of state. Small petty people with too much time on their hands.

Amen, tho’ Dade County (or Miami-Dade as they style them selves now) is, if anything even more corrupt and hostile to we “non-Hispanic whites” or “Anglos”. Some of the western/Panhandle, Good Ole Boy run counties are no slouches at traditional corruption either.

Broward County is the destination of choice for Latin Americans looking to prepare a bolt hole against bad times at home, plant an anchor baby or shelter some capital from the Socialists running the shi*holes they come from.

We’re the destinantion of choice for the English speaking carribbean too (Oh Joy!). Imagine the fun of not being able to understand the cab driver or dispatcher even when they speak (allegedly) the same language you do! Forget getting a native born cabbie, they ran them out off years ago. Construction jobs? Univerally taken by the latins.

Absolutely cannot wait to retire and move back to America.

Understandable. Rush Limbaugh is contemporary, while the Democrats are sooooooo 1917.

Correct. It is a Yiddish word borrowed from Polish (although the Slavic Poles pronounce it more like “Bob.”).

Broward County was a liberal hellhole twenty years ago, when its politics were dominated by the Condo Communists from New York and New Jersey. I remember 10 years ago when the majority of its county commissioners (all Dem) were born in the northeast.

Even if you check the electorate, you will see that the largest voting block remains Jewish folks from the northeast, who largely vote Democrat. This will not change once the Caribs and South Americans get registered.

So don't kid yourself. Broward has not been a truly "Anglo" county for nearly 30 years now.

Also, Dade sends three Republicans to Washington, something that cannot be said about Broward or Palm Beach counties.

That’s ok. I don’t want Rush’s show interrupted all the time with mindless global warming weather nuts scaring the people with Katrina false alarms. They’re already licking their chops at the upcoming hurricane season, misforecasting minor squalls as Andrews type storms already. The weather types are being politicized into algore alarmists who are wasting our time with chicken little forecasts that are becoming less and less accurate because of the bullcrap.

And you don’t need to scrath hard. During the weeks before the 2004 elections, there were a ton of code citations written in Ft Lauderdale and Coral Springs. I had Bush and Martinez signs in my yard. Because they were within 18 inches of the side walk, the confiscated the signs and wronte me a $25 citation for the offense. While I was at the courthouse paying the fine I ran into a few others from Coral Springs who got the same fine. All had Repub yard signs. I noticed the folks who had dem signs were never cited and their signs were never removed.

By a strange coincidence, EIB Command is located in Broward County! Its fun for Rush to live in Palm Beach.

Why doesn't the female Commissar just have Rush arrested?

Oh, wait - they already tried that...
