WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush, trying to salvage an immigration overhaul legislation, endorsed a plan Thursday that would lock in money for border security as way to win over conservative lawmakers and a skeptical public.

``We're going to show the American people that the promises in this bill will be kept,'' Bush said in a speech to the Associated Builders and Contractors.

Bush got behind a proposal to set aside money collected through fees and penalties for tougher border security and workplace enforcement. Two Republican senators, John Kyl of Arizona and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina, have proposed such an amendment.

Bush said the measure would ``show the American people that we're going to do our jobs of securing this border once and for all.''

The provision would immediately divert $4.4 billion toward border security, with that amount to be paid back once new fees are in place. The point would be to ensure that border security would not be subject to the whims of the yearly budget negotiations.

Trust has to be earned, Mr. President! And, you haven’t done a damn thing to earn our trust on this immigration bill. And to add insult to injury, you haven’t done a damn thing to get the two border guards who DID do their job and are rotting in prison for it, released from prison.

Your credibility is sooo shot!

“I heard Tony Snow on Laura Ingrham’s show this morning. Laura pointed out that we the people don’t trust government anymore so Snow used Reagan’s “Trust but verify” line.”

Snow or his minions lurk here.

The “verify” is useless because if Bush cheats, and he will because he is a liar and a fraud, you can’t reverse the automatic legalization of 20+ million.

Tony Snow has gone beyond pr, into active, agressive lying.

The Bush Administration is a corrupt, elitist fraud.

But I noticed Cheney is staying out of this mess.

Before we abandon George like rats off a sinking ship

Glad to see you are catching a little heat on this. I too am tired of hearing how " we all knew this immigration thing was a pet project of his."

GW didn't tell his he would actually use the power of the Presidency to thwart enforcement, to practically stop interior enforcement, he didn't say how he was the kinda guy who leave a 2000 mile border open during wartime.

The President didn't mention how he and his minions would slander his base as bigots and racists and the Minutemen as vigilantes. All because they cared about the country, it's sovereignty and the rule of law.

This is a country, not a company. Presidents come and go. The only issue is whether we will still have our country when this one goes.

Regards

Laura pointed out that we the people don’t trust government anymore

This is really cutting edge perception.

This is not about fair immigration, Mr. President.

This is very apparently, about your bending over for ficitous "the new world order" of power grabs by global corporations and globalist government (including your shared whispers with Mexico).

He set a course into the rocks, then bailed. The ship's on the bottom. The only question remains, is there anything left to salvage.

BUT...our entire system needs an overhaul.

Really, you feel the constitution is outdated?

Anybody can raise their right hand and promise.

A signed document is only as good as the signature that upholds it. Otherwise it's just another piece of paper.

Actions speak louder than words.

And you expect a bunch of folks that you concede are corrupt and lack connection with voters to do a system overhaul?

Senor Bush-—we demand a lock down of our borders now!

Nobody gets in or out without a passport that can be scrutinized evey which way.
