Great. Thanks FDA for raising the prices at my local fish restaurant.

This is one of several areas where I get off the libertarian (and Libertarian) train.

I don't want the U.S. to go back to this again:

" It was only when the whole ham was spoiled that it came into the department of Elzbieta. Cut up by the two-thousand-revolutions- a-minute flyers, and mixed with half a ton of other meat, no odor that ever was in a ham could make any difference. There was never the least attention paid to what was cut up for sausage; there would come all the way back from Europe old sausage that had been rejected, and that was moldy and white – it would be dosed with borax and glycerine, and dumped into the hoppers, and made over again for home consumption. There would be meat that had tumbled out on the floor, in the dirt and sawdust, where the workers had tramped and spit uncounted billions of consumption germs. There would be meat stored in great piles in rooms; and the water from leaky roofs would drip over it, and thousands of rats would race about on it."

-- Upton Sinclair. The Jungle

Ah yes, that took a bit to come up....not. Upton Sinclair the Socialist. May want to do a little research to see why 'Chicago beef' was hated so much in the East. It had nothing to do with quality or practices. But the 'checks' put in place did level the playing field for companies that weren't able to keep up.

BTW, Sinclair's little book was a call to arms for Socialists. But sure, that's a good book to base business practices in a capitalist nation

The FDA’s in for a big State Dept. smackdown.

I don't think so. This could get very ugly.

Thanks for the ping.

For the FDA to take this step - it’s a big deal. Overdue, but a big deal.

Don’t mean to preach, but, buy organic or locally grown whenever possible. Also, no farmed fish - wild caught, like other posters have pointed out, is much safer. Farmed Salmon, for instance, contains PCB’s.

“China, meanwhile, insisted Thursday that the safety of its products was “guaranteed,”

This was said by their spokesman Frank Gorshin. He was the used car dealer on the Munsters.

LOL. Or perhaps Mr. Haney from Green Acres.

He also does not mind that China is selling weapons to kill our military forces.

"Imports of five species of farmed Chinese seafood detained until they can be shown to be free of dangerous antibiotics"

I'd worry less about the antibiotics than I would about E. coli, heavy metal and phenolic toxins, and the like.

We need to thank Lou Dobbs for this

Is this world turned upside down or what? I'm watching Lou Dobbs on CNN telling Glen Beck how deceitful and horrible our Democratic-lead Congress is, and Glen Beck ripping Feinstein, all on CNN. Weird. (not that I trust CNN)
