Would you be in favor of Amnesty if the borders were truly secure?

The defeat of the amnesty bill is indeed a great day for America. The noble concept of a "Government by the people, for the people" has worked exactly the way our founding fathers intended. Our public serpents have heard the voice of their constituents and acted according to their wishes by defeating this train wreck of a bill.

In the absence of an actual intellectual argument, proponents of amnesty relied on the lowest common denominator of civil public discourse...when you have no facts to back you up, just call your opponent names like doodyhead, racist, bigot, redneck or nativist.

Apparently the elitist left wingers who were eager for new Democratic voters and the elitist Wall Street Journal right wingers who were frothing at the mouth at the idea of a cheap labor pool were shocked. They were used to having their way while the unwashed masses were busy paying attention to Paris Hilton, American Idol or Anna Nicole Smith.

Americans told them in no uncertain terms: We are not stupid. We are performing our civic duty by paying attention to our government. The message is so simple that even a retard can understand it...PROVE TO US THAT YOU CAN ENFORCE THE EXISTING LAWS BEFORE PASSING NEW LAWS THAT YOU CAN'T POSSIBLY ENFORCE.

They claimed that "we haven't read the bill and don't understand it. There are too many moving parts." No. We've read the bill. They haven't. Sure there were some good parts: ending chain migration, increasing the number of visas available for highly skilled employees.

This is certainly not over.

Speaking strictly for myself, I have nothing personally against people trying to come to America to better their lives. Besides the felony crime of breaking into a sovereign nation illegally, the only other "crime" many of these illegals have committed is mowing our lawn, landscaping our yard and picking our fruit. We don't hate anyone.

My parents were first generation LEGAL immigrants. Many of your parents, grandparents and great grandparents came here for the same reason.

We all understand that. What people like Bob Menendez and Mel Martinez don't understand is that when people came here at the turn of the last century there was no welfare state. Come one, come all. If you fail, don't look to the Gubmint to bail you out and provide social services at the taxpayers expense. We are in a different world.

So I am curious and our elected public serpents who were shocked by the outcry from their constituents are too. President Bush is a "lame duck" supposedly. He certainly won't accomplish any new legislative initiatives. However, he still has the power as President to see to it that existing laws are enforced. That means build the fence that was authorized and funded in October of 2006.

Then come back to us and talk about Comprehensive Immigration Reform. If the border were truly secure, would you be in favor of a similar bill?

NO, Hell NO.

How would Mexico (and those other countries that feed our illegal alien population) feel if we dumped several million Americans in their country and expected them to give the benes we give to the illegal aliens here.

You enter my home uninvited with a dozen friends, and you think that I MIGHT let you stay here if we just lock the doors?

“NO! and stop anchor babies.”
“Good point! Children of tourists aren’t citizens, and no more should children of illegals be.”

My vote on the issue. We already have laws that would balance our country’s needs and they are being violated by many already subsidized big businesses. Time to lock their officers up with Paris Hilton!

No, there are some immigrants(think visa’s) that will still need to be deported without citizen rights.

NO AMNESTY AT ANY TIME!!! Lawbreakers need to be held accountable for breaking the laws of this country or our laws mean nothing at all and every LEGAL American can now do his or her "own thing."

Businesses need to be penalized for hiring and enticing illegals to come here for filling their jobs.

All governmental agencies at all levels, federal, state, county and city need to remove illegals from getting anything but lifesaving treatment ONCE, then returned to the border.

Any "sanctuary cities" should be punished for breaking federal laws by removal of any and all government dollars.

Lastly, illegals need to be kindly but firmly encouraged to return home, taking their families with them.

Should anyone desire to get a green card to work, get in line.

All backlogs of paperwork that the government uses as their excuse for wishing all illegals to be immediately granted amnesty, needs to be outsourced. Those government jobs need to be carried out by private industry.

Lastly, the border fence sections need to go out for bids to local contractors and get the government totally out of it as they have proved to be incompetent, corrupt and MIA.

... fine the cr*p out of the employers...

Coulter was on with Mr. Bill this week and suggested that laws be changed to enable illegals to sue employers over wages. Today there is no incentive for employers to cease the under-the-table, less than minimum wage, no taxes paid routine because they are protected from action by law. She postulates that no employer would risk the exposure of legal action by continuing to employ illegals. I think that is worth a try.

IF the US Government had secured the borders the past 5 years; IF they had implemented aggressive penalties on those that employed illegal immigrants; IF they had gone after those cities that declare themselves to be 'sanctuary zones'; IF they had prevented the abuse of our emergency rooms by sending those back home that tap into the infrastructure that was put in place for the citizens of this nation; IF they really treated illegal entry as a crime -- then yes, at this time - 5 years later - I'd be 'ok' with letting those that had gotten through the gauntlet a free pass.
But that's not the case now is it?
IF the government passed a bill to aggressively uphold our nation's boundaries (say, an immigration policy modeled after Mexico), I'd still want to wait a minimum of 3 years to make sure this wasn't another switch and bait tactic. Congress and the Executive branch have shown themselves to be craven liars on this issue - and they cannot be trusted. That's a sad statement to make about those who run our Country -- but their actions have earned distrust.

Why would they need forged documents if they were given amnesty? Excuse my ignorance, I was a Freshman in college at the time.

Would you be in favor of letting murderers and rapists go if the government only promised to prosecture them better in the future?? No? Then why such treatment for the illegal alien crowd of criminals??

I’ll give them a bite: Amnesty for young adults, with proof they have been in the country more than five years, who attended at least 3 years of U.S. public school and graduated highschool in the U.S., provided that there will be absolutely ZERO chain migration associated with such individuals.

... or something like that.

Another part of the law that needs clarifying, All voting will be in English and no other language...period! All the variety of language ballots are costly and just another drain on our system. Plus, that’ll do away with lawsuits!

You see, it is not the anchor baby that is the problem, it is the bleeding heart Judges that cause the problem.

Partly right. The SCOTUS created this right for illegals. That's part of it. The other part of the problem is the illegals who take advantage of it. The original poster was, I think, making the point that the law should be changed to exclude the illegals.

Since you really aren’t looking for an answer or debate, why did you post this?

Why would you say that? Why would you think that? I love America. That's why I posted it. I/we want actual solutions to give to our elected public serpents who read this. That's why I posted it.

I forgot to mention... that is only after the border is secure and the 14th amendment anchor-baby loophole is closed.
