Bush: Americans will realize need for aliens
The Washington Times ^ | July 20, 2007 | Stephen Dinan

Posted on 07/20/2007 6:17:46 PM PDT by Baladas

President Bush yesterday said Americans will soon realize they need the immigrants and foreign temporary workers that would have been allowed by his immigration bill, which was defeated in the Senate last month.

Mr. Bush, in a town hall session in Nashville, Tenn., also refused to say whether he will pardon two U.S. Border Patrol agents convicted of shooting a fleeing drug-smuggling suspect, saying the prosecutor was a friend of his who made his case to the jury that convicted the agents.

If Mr. Bush was hoping the immigration issue would disappear after his bill's failure, those hopes were dashed, as he was asked repeatedly about border security during the forum — meant to highlight his commitment to cutting the deficit.

"The bill failed and I can't make a prediction to you at this point, sir, where it's going to head," the president told one questioner. "I can make you a prediction, though, that pretty shortly people are going to be knocking on people's doors saying, man, we're running out of workers."

Mr. Bush said there are workers who will do jobs Americans aren't doing in the agriculture sector in particular, and without them the jobs will go unfilled.

You are so right. We pay through the nose for medical insurance, property tax, social security witholding, food, mortgages, legal representation, car insurance and registration, college education for our kids.....etc.

If we did’t have to pay for all the above, we would be sitting pretty, if we earned $10/hour, free and clear.

When are we going to demand that the freebies to illegals stop?

Enforcing the law is code for Round up all the Mexicans and herd them back to Mexico.

Enforcing the law is code for forcing ALL illegal aliens, regardless of their countries of origin, to return to their home countries.

Where you going to find the labor to plant and harvest the crops after you deport them??

If needed, let in more legal immigrants.

Agreed- I was telling my wife (we are health nuts, to a degree) about the Chinese method of drying tea leaves for herbal teas. Disgusting!

Now, we’re asking the grocery store for labels of origin on everything, and the health food store for the same. If enough people do it, maybe they’ll start to care.

That’s a good attempt at making sense of all this, but I think it’s a planned progression toward the North American Union.

There are advantages to such a plan for the elites, (not many for a sovereign nation) so they’ve decided that we shall have it.

It would be nice if he stated what his real agenda’s been all along, but odds are Americans would be cool to the idea of One Happy Hemisphere — no papers and half of Mexico and points south living in your garage. Instead, he’s (in the words of AlGore...’snippy’), “You’ll be sorry when there’s no one to roof your house! Don’t come crying to me then!”

Since you have no answer, I am done with you. Your logic is simple, round up all the Mexicans and then open the borders to Chinese, etc.

Most of America is not threatened by Paco picking the lettuce. You guys have no answers other than namecalling and hate. You have no answers for who will pick the crops or do the heavy lifting, just cliche’s and hate.

Glad you and your ugly mob aren’t in power. Take a look at this thread and your mob and see the hatred.

You can call me a kiss ass, but for me there is one issue and it ain’t Paco planting and picking the crops. For you it is and would rather have HilaryCare than solve your issue. You would rather have the issue to blast people with than really address how to pick the crops.

You want to Enforce the Law and then Change the Law to allow new people in. Do you even realize how rediculous that sounds, when all you would have to do is issue Guest Worker visas or some variance of that?

We have plenty of home-grown unskilled workers here man...They are called drop-outs.

They've got to be willing to work, though...and by their very nature, drop-outs don't want to work.

I am not endorsing illegal aliens. I am endorsing a need for unskilled workers or the technology to replace them. :)

These people are in complete denial. They pretend the crops will plant and pick themselves w/o Manuel help. They enjoy the cliches since it makes them better than everyone who understnds the reality of the issue.

Mexicans are generally hard working family oriented people who will show up to do the work. They are chasing the American dream like every other person who has come to this Great Country.

Americans like most on this bored have progressed past menial work and now we are importing those workers. These people want the issue to bash President Bush rather than really discuss it. To pretend Mexicans are not in the fields of America working our crops is FRediculous.

Forget the fact that the Dems are in power and not going to allow anything these people want. President Bush doesn’t have that luxury. Does anyone believe the Rats are going to allow mass deportation?? Why even propose it??

These threads are a lost cause. My guess is 20-40% of these posters are $0R0$ plants. Is there a better way to divide and destroy FR let alone the Party?

Pray for W and Our Troops

As was recently posted to me regarding my comments on RP, you’re tilting at windmills here. I’ve tried to have a reasoned dialogue with some on FR regarding this issue. But, alas, to no avail. There’s just too much anger in some.

Odd, you support illegal aliens as migrant workers, but take a strict line against Muslims, and consider moderate Muslims to be a myth (from your FRhomepage). It wouldn’t seem the two would go hand in hand.

That could be the most over-used photograph on FR.

I'd like to know where some of these people propose to find the "labor" to round up all of the illegals (estimates are from 12 to 20 million) and deport them? I'd also like to know their ideas on how to prevent mass casualties when mass deportations begin?

You stop making it so hard for law abiding people to come to America, for starters.

Is this not part of what President Bush was attempting to do?

I doubt you've ever spent a day in a farm field.

I have. And, hey, guess what? Taxes were taken out of my paychecks. Oh, and also, taxes were taken out of the paychecks of the illegals I worked side by side with!! But, then, illegals don't pay any taxes, now do they?

“I think he did get it pretty right on the war.”

I disagree, on this point. Open Borders here in the US leaves us vulnerable to loosing the WOT right here in our own backyards and any attack here will negate anything we’ve accomplished elsewhere. Our borders should have been effectively secured on 9/12 before we ever sent a soldier into Afghanistan or Iraq.

Sort of have a similar idea about the Iraq conflict: to prime the military for a major (as in a bigger war than World War 2). There have been quite a few technology advances that have come about during this conflict (though not on the order of computers, the nuclear bomb, penicillin).

Also the main point for personal support of an enlarged United States is that the country is currently 'coasting on technology.' China and India have populations several times that of the United States. If the EU becomes a country, it would also surpass the USA in population.

The United States covers around 1/16 of the world's landmass, and has less than 5% of the global population. If huge federal nations (or just China and India) form in the future, the United States stands to become and underdog.

With other countries having more people, and others more raw resources (i.e. Russia), the primary thing (from a secular standpoint) keeping the United States in the lead is American technology. If (when?) other big countries catch up, the USA's one advantage will be lost. The last three paragraphs were more for 'all.'
