I'm not going to call Bill O'Reilly a liar... yet, but... on his TV show today, he read off a laundry list of ridiculous "hate" statements like "I hate blacks," "Hillary should be assassinated" and "homosexuals are dogs" that he said he personally found on Free Republic and claims that they were posted here today. I do not believe that. I doubt that he personally logged on to FR and I doubt he found any such thing posted here today.

Who knows what we may have missed and is buried deep in our archives of millions of posts, but our readers do a pretty good job of alerting us to anything out of bounds that is posted and we pull it. Also, one of our readers found a couple of the quotes he alleges, and if they are the ones O'Reilly is complaining about, he took them way out of context. They were simply quotes in the articles posted not statements posted by FReepers.

As soon as he provides me a list of the alleged posts and their URLs, I'll believe him. If he doesn't... then... well, guess he'll deserve to be known as what he is.

Actually, if one goes to my initial link that references the screenshots, then scrolls down, you'll see that the work I did was done previously on that thread from last night. It's all there. I simply duplicated it.

The screenshots were provided by hole_n_one, who's only comment was: "For the record and FWIW, the two instances of shots of FR's site during the segment.........". He'll have to attest for their provenance and how he obtained them.

I'd imagine that, this already being posted on JR's own thread, JR, Kristinn, et al. already have this information in hand. It surely has nothing to do with his 'hate speech' remarks of last evening.

And I'll bet by the time I finish adding the HTML to keep it legible, someone else will have answered your question about the time diff in the screen-cap posts, but I'll get to that ... :o) Me: Can anyone spot any of the lines he cited in those images?

Yup! The first screenshot shows three threads as follows in order:

I did a quickie search on each thread and came up with nothing for 'blacks', and only common statements regarding 'Hillary'.

The second screenshot is from the body of a thread. The left portion of the screen is cut off, yet it appears to be the end of the original article, followed by the first three responses (that's a guess). The last sentence in the original article seems to read, in part "The General Assembly will pass the state's next two-year budget during the 2008 session". This is NOT from any of the threads linked above.

One further interesting point. The thread posting times displayed in the first screenshot are all PST times, whereas Bill O'Reilly is taped out of New York. If he indeed did the search as claimed, why this discrepancy? Hmmmmmmmmm!

That in itself brings up an interesting question: Why would one have to become a FReeper to copy the pages off FR? It's not necessary. The only reason one becomes a FReeper is if one want's to post.

So a) Did the troll URL the site from the West Coast and copy the pages, or b) Did someone sign-up from the East Coast without changing (or noticing) the default PST post time? And if so, why did the person feel the need to get an account? Because one wanted to post? If so, post what?

All three articles had similar post times. This may/may not equate to when the troll arrived/logged-in. But it's somewhere to start, I suppose.

off-hand, seemingly hate-filled statements are commonplace, but honestly i don't think it makes FR a hate site. i like o'reilly (look at my screen name) but he is, of course, wrong on this issue. he's simply uninformed.

He may have found the other two, but they were likely posted with tongue firmly implanted in the cheek. By not indicating such, he has purposefully misrepresented what was said which is lying.

He didn't say "types". He made very specific allegations which at this time seem no where to be found. But assuming that if homosexuality is genetic, wouldn't it make it a birth defect?

I've downloaded the video from last night's program. The screenshots posted here only represent a portion of the screenshots on the video. The video of the program shows a video of someone cursing through the thread's page then selecting a thread (more than once). Thus, the screenshots posted here are fragments of what what was shown, and not necessarily representative of where the 'comments' came from.

I would imagine one would have to replicate the thread structure at that time to determine what stories were involved.

This makes the screenshots provided earlier of no practical use.

The "I Hate Blacks" comment is found on THIS THREAD.

The "Homosexuals are dogs" comment can be found on THIS THREAD

Notice that neither of those comments were made by freepers. They were statements reported in the articles that were posted.

O'Reilly is as dishonest as the day is long. It may be that he was suckerd by his staff, but he claimed that these statements were somehow typical of the kind of stuff that freepers post here, which, IMO, is actionable libel.
