Just turned on the news. 35W bridge collapsed in the Mississippi River. Cars, trucks, semis.....

Fires burning, tanker trucks, at least one school bus, more than ten cars......

Just now breaking.......

Woman in the red car saw pieces of -cars- and steel parts of bridge “blowing up” into the air.

I hope the witness’ words are being taken out of context by the reporters.

People on the bridge reported hearing jackhammer-like sounds before the collapse

Probably the sound of steel beams and connections ripping apart.

Fox reporting eyewitness accounts of explosions/things exploding.

If it was AlQueda, you would see a half dozen bridges down across the country.

If it were the Somoli residents of Minn., then you would see jumping/cheering/handing out of candy by Muslims.

Methinks it was a 40 year old (relatively new) UNION built bridge.

someone on scene should start looking at the pillars, get some cameras on them.. close ups (before we get the standard denial/no problems here statements)

With not one little bit of inspection or investigation.
So, you've got 1st-hand information about this, right? Maybe you're on-sight and somehow you've observed that they haven't done any inspection? Or, you could just be a big badmouther. [That's my guess.]

If this was terrorism, it would be visible. I’ve seen collapses where the load on the steel and concrete was calculated improperly and that’s what it looks like to me, the fact that there is major construction going on makes this all the more likely. Not to mention that all of the piles seem intact and that is where an explosive would have been placed.

WCCO says there will be a DOT briefing within the hour. Also saying that it is now a recovery mission in the river, not rescue. No word on any fatalities yet.

I saw that episode the other night...the trucks CAN stop on the ice with no problem. What is the problem is when the trucks go too fast, greater than 20km/hr, then the pressure wave the truck makes builds up too much in front of the truck and the ice will buckle and fail.

They showed a segment where the second part of a tandem fuel truck rear wheels went thru, remember? and all the trucks coming behind and in front had to stop on the ice while they cleared the stuck truck...
