Police Release 9 Threatening Postcards

OCALA, Fla. -- Investigators in Marion County, Fla., are searching for the author of nine postcards sent to different schools on the same day with the words 'Jihad-Boom" and handwritten cartoons of a building apparently exploding with people inside.

Investigators released the postcards with the threatening drawings on them Monday in hopes of generating leads in the case.

Officials said that the postcards are made up of various and traditional themes, and each one has a distinctive hand-drawn cartoon on it. Several of the threats arrived on postcards featuring Walt Disney World.

Detectives said the threat-maker crossed his or her No. 7s and attached a suffix to the address. Six of the nine postcards spell the word "Jihad" correctly, while the others are incorrect.

The U.S. Postal Service said that the postcards were all mailed to the schools from the Ocala-Gainesville mailing district before the sixth anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.

A $10,000 reward has been issued to anyone who provides information which leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for using the postal service to mail the threatening postcards to schools.

Could be a hoax. Can’t take any chances. Start the mass deportations now.

a cop can’t be everywhere all the time.

Exactly and I for one don’t want a cop on every street corner, in every building, it’s impractical and too authoritarian.

They looked like old postcards to me, too. Also those two odd ones, which were not postcards but more like notecards. It’s like somebody rifled through a drawer full of cards (perhaps not belonging to him) and pulled out a random assortment.

The handwriting doesn’t look like an older person’s writing, but putting a period at the end of the abbreviation for Florida might be something an older person would do. State abbreviations, prior to the two-letter system, were usually followed by a period. E.g., Minn., Wisc., Cal., Fl., etc.

Yet again, you are absolutely 100% CORRECT, imho.

And the zombied out sleep on.

Thankfully, the college is having a—whatever it’s called—scenario complete with “shooter” and volunteer victims etc some Saturday soon.

I repeatedly mention that the guards need armed routinely. Am usually looked at as though I’m from Mars or Pluto.

Have informed the Marines and exMarines in my classes that should something like that happen, I’ll draw the attention of the terrorists in whatever ways I dramatically can largely to give them a chance to act wisely and responsibly.

My life is already secure in Jesus and I’m not about to give the terrorists in my space on my watch a wimpy compliant response.

A barely literate Jihadi terrorist trying to write with his head in a dark place.

I did that in Google Earth. It’s a pretty tight cluster with the exception of Dunnellon.

These are six of the eight high schools in Marion County. The two who did not receive post cards were Forest High and West Port. If you’ll click below, you can access maps for each of the schools.

True and accurate as well. Cops on every corner would remind me of China. There, you will find “policemen” on every corner.

All my kidding around about the 10 codes aside;

muslims are pretty much up on their history. They also love symbolism. The 10 - 10, to me, linked to Ashura would be a muslim vs muslim message. To send a message to the west, in my opinion, a date would have been picked that was a west vs muslim date.

And as a second side note, gangs have been known to use penal codes and police 10 codes in messages and graffiti.

I was thinking the 10 - 10 was a date. The first one is a date, pretty obviously. 10-10 as a date in October, 10/10 would perhaps mean what ever is going to happen would happen between those two dates as well> Or another 9-11 on 10-10. Or transmission over with CB lingo, or whatever else you want it to mean.

Possibly this is someone who has occasion to travel on Hwy 40. It doesn’t look like much of anything on the map, but it’s a heavily used road and some people take it as a part of an alternate route to Tampa if they don’t want to travel on I-75. It jogs over and goes through Ocala.

Thanks, V. I for one would not be so quick to discount things such as the misspellings of “jihad”, since this may be a “second language” issue, phonetic spelling, etc.

The date on the cards is disturbing.

Sorry, I missed that. So only West Port didn’t get a post card? I wonder why it was left out.

Personally, as a resident of Marion County, I think it is a hoax. There might be an islamic influence in Gainesville at UF but the Ocala area is horses, retirees, and rednecks.

If terrorists can’t personally get an explosive in the school, they need something the school ordered (equipment, etc) maybe to contain an explosive. Did 6 of the 8 schools in the county order something the other 2 didn’t? The question mark might then indicate uncertainty as to when each school would receive the shipment in this case.
