Miller Pulls Logo From 'Last Supper' Advertisement (Keep Up the Pressure!)

The Miller Brewing Company, a sponsor of this weekend's homosexual "leather" street fair in San Francisco, has asked to have its logo removed from an advertising poster that has offended some Christians.

The advertisement portrays Christ and his disciples as half-naked sado-masochists.

"While Miller has supported the Folsom Street Fair for several years, we take exception to the poster the organizing committee developed this year. We understand some individuals may find the imagery offensive and we have asked the organizers to remove our logo from the poster effective immediately," the company told Cybercast News Service on Tuesday.

The group behind the ad said it was not intended to be either "pro-religion or anti-religion," but the poster -- a parody of Leonardo da Vinci's painting "The Last Supper" -- continued to draw fire from Christian organizations on Tuesday.

The ad is promoting the Folsom Street Fair in San Francisco -- essentially a multi-city block party for homosexuals. It shows a group of men and women scantily clad, at a long table, laden with sex toys and sado-masochistic implements.

And speaking of advertising insults, I change the channel every time the Charmin ad comes on that uses Handel’s Messiah Hallelujah chorus to accompany bears going to the bathroom. Do they have no clue what that music is about, and what it celebrates?

So we are to believe that Miller didn't get advance notice of what their logo was going to appear on? Sorry, I don't buy it. And the Miller logo would no doubt have stayed on the poster if it hadn't been divulged and Miller hadn't been getting heat.

No more Miller Time for me.

How about beer ads that feature images of homosexuals being beaten by cops in the Stonewall riots? No, wait...I based that remark on news stories I read about the riots, not on the riots themselves.

pulling their logo ...isnt a big deal...they violated the Beer Institutes Code of Marketing and Advertising having their logo on the ad.

now pulling their sponsorship might show they are serious.

The picture was designed to offend Christians. No one involved with that picture thought Christians would like it, or be amused by it, or indifferent to it.

They thought it would offend Christians, and that was amusing to them, so they did it. They also thought (wrongly) that it would make money for Miller.

Offended SOME Christians?

I'd say that this display is pretty much an equal-opportunity offender. Christians may have been the target, but it's pretty bad no matter how you look at it.

Why is this not a “hate crime?”

I would imagine if someone created an “artistic” parody of the homosexual kid from the U of Wyoming that was brutally attacked and murdered a few years back, it would be considered a hate crime. Maybe that’s not a good analogy, but I can’t understand why only Christians are subject to this type of vile, hateful display.

Please clue me in on what the issue is with Sam Adams. I occassionally buy their ale, but if they sponsor stuff like this I’ll send them a nice letter and take my business elsewhere.

“In August 2002, O&A were canceled for the “Sex For Sam 3” stunt. Sex for Sam was a yearly contest O&A held in which the goal was to have sex in notable
public places. Couples from various states would be chosen to compete in the competition and each couple would be followed by a comedian or member of the
show, who would call into the program to report the location. The contest was approved by the station and had been held without a major problem for the
first two years. However, one comedian made the decision to lead his couple to have sex in a vestibule in
St. Patrick’s Cathedral.”

Sex for Sam as in Sam Adams the sponsor. To boot they had Jim Koch in the studio providing commentary.

They knew all right - as long as the music conveyed the words “Hallelujah” they let it play on, but when it came to the part where the words would be “For the Lord God Omnipotent reigneth” they looped it back to the beginning. I was shocked and disgusted. I’ll be boycotting Charmin from now on.

They thought they could demean Christianity and get away with it. Not to put a fine a point on it, but they went beyond just demeaning Christianity. From the description of the poster, it looks like they demeaned Jesus himself.
