Clinton: Use Fluorescent Bulbs, Wrap Water Heaters in Blankets By Matt Purple CNSNews.com Correspondent November 19, 2007

(CNSNews.com) - Presidential hopeful Sen. Hillary Clinton (D-N.Y.) has published a list of 10 ways Americans can "address global warming and increase our energy independence" on her Web site.

These include replacing incandescent light bulbs with fluorescent ones and wrapping your home's water heater in a blanket. It is not known whether Clinton or her presidential campaign staff practices these apparent energy-saving tips.

"You can save 1,000 pounds of carbon dioxide each year by wrapping your water heater in an insulation blanket," according to HillaryClinton.com.

Visitors to the Web site are asked to take a pledge to "confront ... global warming and move our country towards energy independence."

The energy-saving advice was posted to coincide with the release of Clinton's new proposed energy policy, which would, among other things, set up a $50 billion strategic energy reserve and phase out the incandescent light bulb.

Other points of advice included turning down the air conditioning, using energy generated by renewable sources like wind and solar power, and simply recycling.

"By recycling half of your household waste, you can save 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide annually," the Web site said.

But some have called into question whether Clinton - whose presidential campaign has spent $40,472,775 as of September and operates multiple private jets - is being consistent with the conservation advice she has dispensed.

No, there are actually insulating blankets for water heaters. I have used them when the water heater was in my unheated garage and it does work.

By the way, Hilly, I was using one back in the 80s, when you and your grifter hubby were still smoking dope and screwing the good people of Arkansas!

“”You can save 1,000 pounds of carbon dioxide each year by wrapping your water heater in an insulation blanket,” according to HillaryClinton.com.”

Huh? My water heater uses aprox 78 gal of propane a year.

I think her figure is off 100X.

Isn’t that a fire hazard?

Especially if it's a natural gas water heater.

You nailed it!

Disposing of the used bulbs is creating a whole new set of problems..

"fluorescent bulbs still contain items such as fluorine, neon, lead powder, and the toxic heavy metal, Mercury, which can leach out of landfills and poison our drinking water, soil, and add toxic fumes to the air we breathe.

Typically in the past people would dispose of fluorescent bulbs by simply "throwing them in the garbage". This once acceptable practice is no longer acceptable for businesses under most local, county, and state regulations.

Many states nationwide are enforcing laws upon businesses to not allow them to dispose of fluorescent light bulbs by simply utilizing the municipal trash."

And how do homeowners dispose of those twisty fluorescent light bulbs we are being encouraged to purchase??

Her Majesty has contributed much to global warming with the amount of hot air coming out of her mouth. She could make a significant contribution by just closing her lips.

My air conditioner runs more if I turn it down.

I have some added suggestions...

Women who live a single life shouldn’t

-Live in multiple mansions
-Travel in corporate or airline-size aircraft
-Be chauffered around in limousines, Hummers, or Greyhound Bus-type land yachts
-Leave the lights on all night while illegally perusing the FBI files and tax returns of fellow citizens...

The last thing you should do is let anything flamable get near your water heater.

Companies make special hot water tank insulation bags. They actually work pretty well.

We had a new hot water heater installed last week and I asked the guy about using the blanket, no way it will kill the warranty. So before everyone runs out to get one, check their warranty.

I doubt that 78 gal of propane would weigh 1000# before it was burned and I’m quite sure its not 100% CO2.
