McCain Vows He Won't Let Dems 'Lose This War'
ABC News ^ | 12/11/07 | Bret Hovell

Posted on 12/12/2007 9:51:42 PM PST by Norman Bates

Senator John McCain had harsh words Tuesday for the Democrats both in Congress and on the campaign trail, accusing them of putting politics ahead of national security.

“I can only draw one conclusion from what the Democrats are trying to do today…” McCain said in Inman, South Carolina, “is that their political priorities have taken over their dedication to our nation’s security. And I don’t say that lightly.”

On Monday McCain, R.-Ariz., sent a letter chastising the liberal advocacy group MoveOn.org for calling on Democratic presidential candidates to filibuster the war funding bill before Congress. Tuesday, he tied those Democrats to the group.

“These are good men and women on the other side of the aisle,” McCain said, “but they’re being driven by the most radical left wing organization and the name of it is called Moveon.org.”

McCain went on to attack MoveOn for its ad in September that questioned the veracity of the commander of mulit-national forces in Iraq, General David Petraeus. He then said he would fight against the Democrats, even if it mean time off the campaign trail.

“I’m going to have to maybe go back to Washington and leave the campaign trail depending on what happens here,” McCain said. “Because I’m not going to let them get away with it. I’m not going to let them set a date for surrender. I’m not going to let them lose this war.”

If he were serious, he would shut his trap and withdraw from the race and retire from the Senate.

“when he shines the light on dems I’m not going to complain”

I certainly agree. He’s the LAST one of the pubbies I would want for POTUS, but I will vote for him if he’s the nominee. No other choice.

Amen.

John McCain isn’t my choice, but to call him a traitor after serving our country in Vietnam and undergoing compete torture for years in captivity is a downright shame.

I’d trust McCain to lead us in the War on Terror over many of the GOP candidates and all of the Democrat candidates.

That's quite ironic since McCain was the driving force behind a war that we made on behalf of the guy behind Moveon.org. It was when Milosevic shut down the Soros propaganda networks that the Democrats and McCain became hawkish against the Serbs.

McCain would not make a good president, but he has been a stalwart defender of the President’s war on terror in Iraq. When days were bleak and things did not go smoothly, this RINO was in front of the camera defending the President. Colin Powell staggered out of the hospital from cancer surgery to do his job in front of the microphone in those dark days too. All the staunch conservatives conservatives in Congress were hiding under the table and behind the door during those particular days and they were before the 2004 election.

McCain and Powell’s acts at that time got Bush re-elected. If they had abandoned him, he would not have won. The lesson is RINO need not be a multi issue label. No one has been stronger on Iraq than McCain.

I really feel that John McCain is motivated by the spirit of cooperation & what is in the best interest of the country. You can’t say he’s self-serving because he takes the hits from both sides for his actions. I like the fact that he actually tries to get the work of government accomplished. He stands uyp for what he thinks is right - and most of the time - he’s right!

We’d be lucky if he got elected. He’s smart and experienced. Don’t waste your vote on amateurs or the unelectable!

The real “front line” in the WOT is our southern and northern border. The fact that McCain proposed SURENDERING our sovereignty is what makes him despicable and unworthy.

“50,000 from my generation DIED in Vietnam. They weren’t imprisoned and tortured (subsequently spilling their guts), they DIED. Get it?”

A generation belongs to no one, because it includes the despicable as well as the heroic. Each man stands on his own merits. Those who died for their country, those who bled for their country, and those who served whether wounded, captured, tortured (spilled their guts) or not are the heroes. Those who refer to members of that group as traitors are the despicable. Get it?

I’d like to get your opinion as well on George W. Bush, Rudy Giuliani, Mike Huckabee, Fred Thompson, and Mitt Romney. All have checkered pasts on immigration.

Bush, like McCain has also sold our country out... Rudy, Mike and Mitt have demonstrated with their records that they will if the get the chance. I would go with Fred.

Fred has a C rating on immigration, just above McCain’s D. I’d like to know that is acceptable if you reject the other people listed.

“Fred has a C rating on immigration, just above McCain’s D. I’d like to know that is acceptable if you reject the other people listed.”

There is a big difference. Fred’s “C” rating was a result of his voting record many years ago when he was in the Senate. Illegal immigration wasn’t on anyone’s (except perhaps Hunter’s) radar screen).

Since then the populace has become more aware because the situation has gotten worse. Thompson caught on, the others did not. They ended up on the wrong side. Against the American citizens...

Bush has been terrible and McCain has been worse. Both are traitors in my book.

You are offering excuses. 2002 is not exactly “many years ago” in my book. Illegal immigration has been on the radar since 1991 when Buchanan damaged Bush with that ridiculous campaign of his. It was well known issue all throughout the Nineties, only obscured until recently by 9/11 (which was after 7 of Fred’s 8 years in the Senate). It is well known further that Fred was a close colleague of McCain in the Senate (and they remain good friends to this day).

“Both are traitors in my book.”

Fred would surely not approve. Anyway, strident rhetoric only marginalizes one’s message.

Oh I remember how kind McCain was to the Swiftboat Vets, he could NOT snuggle up any closer to JFKerry than his wife T.

He is a self serving politician and how funny now for him to find moveon distasteful, after he in his campaign finance reform gave them life.
