Whoever filmed that knew they had a cross in the background. Any photographer or filmographer worth his salt looks for things like that through the viewfinder.

I don’t have a big problem with it. My problem is with the denials.

I don't care that Huckabee put a cross in his Christmas ad.
I DO care that he's telling me I didn't see what I saw.
And even more that if I saw what I saw it's a sign I'm a nut.

I would have no issue with the moving cross advertisement, if Huckabee admitted what is patently obvious to anyone with a 3 digit IQ, namely, that it was purposefully created.

It does not bother me that a former preacher would use a cross as a key advertisement element.

It greatly worries me that a former preacher would use a cross as a key advertisement element, and then LIE about it.

If a former preacher will lie about the cross, what won't he lie about?

In the words of George Burns:

“Sincerity is everything. If you can fake that, you’ve got it made.”

Hillary Clinton is running an “all beige all the time” wardrobe campaign.

Thompson does the ad without a necktie.

Romeny is plastic perfect.

and EVERY SINGLE CAMPAIGN has a media consultant HOWEVER

just Huckabee is using the our gang commercial company...

NO WAY IN HECK is this preachers commercial with a cross anything other than 100% deliberate.

My God - showing something in the shape of a cross on TV.

What is the world coming to?

I still don’t get the big deal.
A cross at Christmas .... doesn’t offend me.

Hillary, Obama, Edwards, Dodd ..........
DemocRATs and liberals offend me.

I don’t like or trust Huckabee - I think he’s a socialist pretending to be a Republican - but this kerfuffle is really petty. Whether he intended it or not, there’s nothing wrong with a cross in a Merry Christmas message.

The proof that the moving cross effect was deliberate, is the use of the tracking dolly to move the cross in the background in a perfectly controlled way.

As one with experience in commercial production, you are exactly correct.

If there is no need for the effect, there is no reason to rent the tracking dolly (most film equipment is rented by the production company).

If a presidential candidate did not know or review the ad, he’s an incompetant boob, a snake-oil selling liar, or a former Arkansas governor.

I do not knock anyones religious beliefs, however they are not what I look for when choosing a candidate.

Beliefs are what guide you, not what makes you think you are better than others.

I don’t think that proves anything beyond taking the long way around to point out the obvious - that the camera is moving. But we already knew that. This kind of thing is done all the time, and is very popular in contemporary production. It is an aesthetic choice, and yes, a deliberate one. Making issue out of it totally misses the mark though. Why cares if the “cross” is floating or stationary, anyways?

The point of it is that the bookshelf was chosen, framed, and lighted in a particular way to resemble a cross, “floating” or not. The camera movement was designed simply to bring more attention to it, just to make sure them dumb rubes in Iowa didn’t miss it.

VIEIRA: So you didn't see that image when you put the spot together, that it might be confused?

Confused about what VIEIRA? That Christ was born on Christmas morn? So what?

Travis,
Perhaps Huckabee didn't know about it during the film production, and after being presented with the posited truth, didn't wish to acknowledge it. To you as well, so what?
