A Hard Loss for Romney (He's all but doomed now)

A Hard Loss for Romney By John Ellis

It's one thing to lose as you are. What you lose is an election, but there's always another election and in the case of presidential primary politics, a new electorate that awaits you in the next state. It's another thing to lose as you aren't. Mitt Romney was never the 700 Club right-winger his campaign managers conceived. He was and is a man of business and a very capable one at that.

He's all but doomed now. Senator John McCain will beat him in New Hampshire, probably by a lot, and Romney's media coverage will evaporate and his candidacy will consequently die. On January 9, his managers will walk in and say that the campaign needs $10 million or $15 million to continue and that he, Romney, will have to write the check. Everyone who would contribute has maxed out. Everyone who might won't. Two-time losers don't get new money. It's a basic rule of politics.

A lot of these threads are like “hate-ins” against Mitt. What most don’t realize in their zeal to sink him to support their own, they are actually helping to sink the Republican party. They are also turning off a lot of possible new members with all the hate.

The reason I started studying Mitt Romney was because of the dirt thrown at him. My logic said that no one on earth could be that bad. I discovered a wonderful man with a wonderful family that had ever attribute it takes to achieve this high office.

I think the posters that continue to slander him are hurting their own candidates by their actions on these threads.

He was a life-long Christian. That is part of what made him such a great President.

If he ran today, he wouldn't make your cut as a Christian.

Boy Scout policy is to NOT allow homosexual scoutmasters ... in 10 years on the BSA national board and a HUGE BSA supporter, Mitt Romney did not change their position or make any official move to do so.

As an Eagle scout, I am glad that Mitt Romney has been such a big supporter of the Boy Scouts and supports their right to make their own decisions about scoutmasters.

You're right as far as you go, but you've missed the point.

It would be disastrous to have homosexual predators unleashed on young men in their early teenage years as they enter puberty.

I feel that all people should be allowed to participate in the Boy Scouts regardless of their sexual orientation -- Mitt Romney

As an Eagle Scout, I have taken a public position against the terrible practice and have done everything in my power to prevent it.

Mitt, on the other hand, supports homosexual scout leaders, but as a board member has either 1) been outvoted in implementing it, or 2) merely done nothing to deploy it.

Both of Mitt's positions are disgraceful.

I am so glad that I have the ability to be forgiving, being that I like Mitt, because if I wasn’t I would never vote for Fred in retaliation. You should hope that more are like me.

“I think the posters that continue to slander him (Mitt) are hurting their own candidates by their actions on these threads.”

I agree with you, I have been a Christian in training since ‘93 and I am feeling tested as far as the ability to forgive goes. Not everyone will be so dedicated and will remember these attacks and not be able to forgive or forget. I guess in a way, these people will be reaping what they sow. As long as they continue this way I don’t expect to see their candidates being able to prosper enough to win the nomination.

This smells of desperation from a Romney supporter. Fred Thompson is the Reagan Conservative in the race.

Hey, I'm not saying I think Fred is a liberal.

I donated to him once or twice already, even though I don't think he can win.

I'm just saying that they ALL claim the other guy is too liberal, and that THEY themselves are the real conservative.

It's just politic stump speak, and they all do it from time to time.

I’ve corrected you before on this in previous Mormon-bash threads.

Sure you have!

But you displayed the same behavior in those threads.

Are you a bit curious as to why I'm not Catholic bashing??

How about “Accept all Americans as full citizens or you are anti-American.” ??

How about that!

Being a FULL-CITIZEN is ALL that it takes to be qualified to be President?

Romney is a wonderful fine family man, a hard worker, a man of great character and integrity.

And Ol' Huck beat him.

I think next time the Olympics are in trouble, we call for the CLUSTERHUCK!!

USA will win LOTS of stuff then, and it won't be SILVER!!!

Sigh....

1 Kings 19:10
He replied, "I have been very zealous for the LORD God Almighty. The Israelites have rejected your covenant, broken down your altars, and put your prophets to death with the sword. I am the only one left, and now they are trying to kill me too."

===============================

Bwahahahaha! That's exactly the same line FRINOs (Freepers In Name Only) were using to promote Rudy a few months back with that whole "Rudy is the only one who can defeat Hillary" and "If you don't vote for Rudy you are electing Hillary" nonsense.

It was a steaming pantload then and is a steaming pantload now.

In the last election they [conservatives] stayed home and the Republicans lost the House and Senate.

And if we don’t have a true conservative on the ticket we can add the presidency to that list.

No, one must also be born a citizen, and 35 years old to be qualified to RUN. I don’t believe the Constitution also says “must be of the majority religion”; indeed it expressly says ‘there shall be no religious test’. But I guess that doesn’t matter to holier than thou religious bigots with hatred in their heart to any religion that differs from there own; and think that someones religious identity is more important than their political ideology. The office is President of the United States, not Head Pastor of Elsie-land.

Do you believe that all Mormons are de-facto unqualified for the Presidency? Then you do not accept them as full citizens of this Republic, which is too bad, because they are excellent citizens who believe some rather preposterous things; much like many other FReepers.

Correction: I was speaking about the evangelicals, not conservatives as a whole.
