Just days after announcing his campaign was literally moving to South Carolina, Fred Thompson is enjoying a remarkable spike in support across the state and from donors around the country. "From contributors on the internet, to voters packing his South Carolina events, even to pundits praising his debate performance, Fred Thompson is on a roll. We see the fight in South Carolina as critical. And we see Fred in fine fighting form, declared campaign manager Bill Lacy. Key Stats and Information: The campaign has raised more than $300,000 online just since Freds dominating debate performance on Thursday night. Fifty-six percent of all online donors since Thursday night are first-time contributors. We have had 14,296 contributions since the Iowa Caucus with an average contribution of $98.

God could well have chosen Thompson, but none of us know, and the original post sounded like God had chosen Thompson over the other candidates, and I was responding to my probably incorrect interpretation of that post.
The Huckabee arguments have obviously made me too sensitive to charges of God's endorsements of a candidate.
That I don’t know—not sure how up-to-date WAPO keeps those pages, but it seemed like the coming events were current, so maybe...
I interpreted the post I responded to as claiming God was supporting Thompson, and wanted to say that that was presumptuous. IN doing so I used words that were easily interpreted as saying God opposed Thompson, but that was not what I think or what I meant.
I simply wanted to point out that we shouldn’t claim God is on the side of one candidate or another. I realise now that the orginal poster probably didn’t intend that, and I overreacted.
I firmly believe the bible is clear about the importance of the fellowship of believers, but that is a religious issue, not a political one.
I apologize for my statement.
Sounds very possible to me! :-)
And he seems to be quite frugal with the spending, unlike many of the other candidates (Jeri’s influence too? :-) so I bet that money can go a looooooooong way toward helping FRed get elected President of these United States come November!
[Hail to the Chief plays in background]
Thank you, and I apologize.
I apologize. Read posts before this for a more complete general apology.
Those are the September 30 numbers, we are waiting for the 4th quarter numbers.
You don’t KNOW that FRed ‘doesn’t think church is important’—we don’t know his reasons for not attending.
As a Christian, I believe attending church and having Christian fellowship is VERY important, but being married to a Hindu there’s lots of times I don’t go to keep the family peace—I guess that means I’m not a ‘real’ Christian either?
You are making a lot of judgmental statements here, CW.
:*(
Thanks. I needed an award to go with the lumps.
Judge not lest ye be judged.

Sorry, but I don't trust this guy :)
FRED THOMPSON More God Talk: Thompson Doesn't Attend Church Regularly -- one of our FR discussions on the matter.
I don't however think God opposes Thompson. I apologize for my post, which was meant to say God shouldn't be claimed to be endorsing Fred, but came out suggesting God would oppose him.
I apologize. I was trying to make the point that we should not assume God endorses our candidate over the others, but in my zeal for a clever way of putting it, made it sound like I thought God would oppose Thompson because Thompson does not attend church.
In fact, I have no idea who God has chosen for President, and despite his lack of church-going would vote for Fred Thompson.
I just wouldn’t praise God because my candidate had a good poll, or won a primary, because in my mind that would be suggesting that God was on my candidate’s side.
So when I saw a poster doing that with Fred, I overreacted.
Again, I apologize.
I can't believe whichever of God's houses you attend preaches that its ok for you to have a computer.
I apologize to you for my comments.
That's fine but please avoid wherever it is I'm assembling.
I apologize for my statement which suggested God opposes Thompson. I don’t think we should say God supports or opposes a candidate, and have no idea who God has chosen to be our next president. I was responding to a post which suggested to me that God was supporting Fred Thompson over the other candidates.
That is the kind of thing that Huckabee has suggested, and I reject that from all candidates.
On a religious note, I believe you are wrong about your dismissal of church. Yes, church doesn’t make you a christian, and yes, not attending church would not make you not a christian.
But it is clear from biblical texts that we are, as Christians, to fellowship with one another. I don’t think God “case more about how a person acts for the rest of the week”, I think God cares about how we obey his commands, all the time. “Do not forsake the assembling of yourselves together”. A man should have his family under the protection, guidance, and admonition of a body of believers.
From a political perspective, a person doesn’t have to be a Christian, or attend church, to be President.
But to the degree that pushing a Christian candidate who publicly forswears church attendance and membership causes others to suggest that this is the way God would want it, I must oppose that, because it could cause our brothers and sisters to stumble.
Sorry God can be found outside of the sheetrock, boards, and stucko wall of your houses.
From a religious perspective, I disagree with you. Church isn’t just a place to be with God, and the Bible clearly indicates the importance of the fellowship of believers. We are called to be accountable to one another, and the Church is the manner God has ordained to provide accountability, protection, fellowship, and education.
Even presuming that you do not need the fellowship or admonition of other believers, what about those other people, who need YOUR guidance and wisdom, but do not get it because you do not attend a church to provide it to them?
I’m sorry, but regardless of my political view of a candidate, I cannot endorse a Christian who says that it is not important to take his family as a member of a God-fearing church, even though I can support and vote for them for a political office.
