Duncan Hunter Endorses Mike Huckabee
National Review Online ^ | 1-23-08 | Byron York

Posted on 01/23/2008 12:29:02 PM PST by TitansAFC

This was a surprise. From the Hunter statement:

"I got to know Governor Huckabee well on the campaign trail," said Hunter. "Of the remaining candidates I feel that he is strongly committed to strengthening national defense, constructing the border fence and meeting the challenge of China's emergence as a military superpower that is taking large portions of America‚s industrial base."

"Along with these issues of national security, border enforcement and protecting the U.S. industrial base, I see another quality of Mike Huckabee's candidacy that compels my endorsement. Mike Huckabee is a man of outstanding character and integrity. I saw that character over the last year of campaigning and was greatly impressed. The other Republican candidates have many strengths and I wish them all well. My personal choice is Mike Huckabee," Hunter concluded.

you need to do your research, know your candidates and then make your own informed decision what you want to do.

I've just heard from a completely unreliable source that this Hunter endorsement of a left wing socialist is false. Turns out that this is all just my bad nightmare and you all somehow ended up in it. Sorry about that.

“And then people wonder why certain radio talk show hosts don’t endorse people...”

Right. I was really surprised to hear Hunter endorsed Huckabee. Was sure he would choose a more conservative candidate than Huckabee. Oh well, he has a right to endorse whom he pleases. Like I have said, if Fred came out and endorsed McCain, Huckabee or Giuliani, I still would vote for Mitt Romney. Weighing everything in the balance, Mitt is more conservative than the others on issues most important to me.

I agree with your statement, but I must say I’m deeply disappointed. Now I find it hard to support ANY of those still running ...

You are not alone. The elites and the MSM wanted Rudy McRomney and they got it. I'll be casting an anti-Rudy/anti-Huck vote, but I'm not sure in what box it will fall. I know this: there is no one that I will be voting FOR.

I spent money on Duncan, then on Fred. I must be in la la land...

I broke down after McCain won the S.C. primary and sent some money to Romney, seeing him as the only thing left between us and a wacko or a socialist for President.

I hope that doesn't jinx Romney, too. Maybe he'll take my money and do an ad endorsing magic underwear for VP.

BIZZARO world, for sure.

I can tell you he pardoned 1038 inmates during his tenure. More than all the the Governors of the states that surround Arkansas COMBINED. Huck is no conservative and will NEVER get my vote.

I know I’m late to the thread.

I saw Duncan Hunter here in Carson City a couple weeks ago. He was here with Chuck Yeager (did you know Yeager is Hunter in German? Duncan says they may be related :) )

Hunter endorsing the Huckster??? No f’in way!

Good lord, can it be? Can it be I actually hope for Ron Paul now?! Someone PM me and tell me this was from the Onion or something.

If you watched the debates, Huck and Hunter where always on the same page on every issue. They are not strange bedfellows.

I’ll read it but I’m already biased. I’m not thrilled about Huckabee but compared to the other options...he’s all we have unless we go third party.

So much for hoping he wouldn’t endorse anyone. There goes my tagline.

Here's one of the clincher issues against Huckabee for me:

Huckabee Pardons Under Scrutiny (Note: 2x The Total of 3 Predecessors' Combined)

Huckabee Pardons Under Scrutiny

Tin Mike

Arkansas clemencies outpace other states (Huckabee Conservatism)

Why parole a monster like Green

Also Huckabee never met a tax he didn't love.

not a socialist?
http://www.mikehuckabee.com/?FuseAction=Issues.View&Issue_id=23

He also believes in public schools over private and home schools. Pretty strange for a religious ‘conservative.’

Arts classes and tuition for illegals comes first I guess

you wrote:
Huckabee gets negative press for the sales tax going up in a state with a balanced budget amendment. I have much less issue sales taxes esp at the state level then I do with income taxes, as sales taxes are voluntary and income taxes are not.

but he wants a sales tax to replace the income tax. That will raise taxes on a lot of people and his own experience with it shows it will go up.

I’m trying to find some legitimate “records” of how Huckabee has voted and things he has done in his past, to show my parents, who are staunch Huckabee supporters.

I’m trying to convince them he’s not who they think he is. Any help would be appreciated.

Don't feel bad about reading the poor guy from the RNC the riot act because he just "works there".

I wouldn't even volunteer my time to the GOP these days for the likes of a Huckabee.

He’s probably gonna be gun shy now with the pardons, which is not going to go well for our border agents.

The problem with voting for Hillary or B. Hussein Obama is impending Supreme Court vacancies. Choices we will have to live with for a generation, with no recall or “next election” to remedy the matter.

Imagine a liberal controlled Supreme Court on the bench for 20-30 years, ruling on thousands of cases. Think of all the important Constitutional interpretations that will be assigned to the left.

How do you think any 2A case would fare before such a Court? What do you think will happen to our Constitution because of such a Court? Think of every leftist cause that will get a sympathetic ear from an unelected activist judiciary for an entire generation. This is arguably the most important issue in this election.

I no longer have a horse in this race. All the choices are lousy. I’m voting based on what is best for Constitutional governance. In that respect, ANY (R) at election time is far superior than any (D).
