MITT MIFFS W ON BORDERS (Bush exasperated with Romney's hard-line immigration stance)
NY POST ^ | February 2, 2008 | Robert Novak

Posted on 02/02/2008 12:44:12 PM PST by Liz

President Bush has maintained neutrality but privately expresses exasperation with Romney's hard-line stance on immigration......Bush is upset Romney changed his position at the expense of the president's immigration reform. Bush and McCain are not close, but he's grateful for McCain's support on Iraq and immigration.

Florida Gov. Crist's unexpected late endorsement, which helped propel McCain to victory, was an unpleasant surprise to state Republican leaders. Crist had said he was not making an endorsement after shunning Giuliani's courtship and suggested that they also stay neutral. His support for McCain irked Republican activists who generally would have preferred former Romney. Romney carried heavily Republican Collier and Lee counties in SW Florida by substantial margins.....voters McCain will have to win over if nominated.

If anyone doesn’t think the calling isn’t important between now and Tuesday, read this exchange:

To: Matchett-PI

I have been calling for Romney all day. It’s amazing that there are still so many that are undecided between Mitt and McCain. Most of my undecideds said they would look at Romney again. One person from Teller County Colorado was telling me that she had no idea as to where to go on Tuesday, and no one she knew did either. What is going on out there? She wants input into the upcoming election, but nothing was sent to the voters in her area. This is unreal.

To All:

We have three days to stop McCain and if you want to help us you don’t even have to leave your house.

The calls you make that connect you to voters could put Mitt over the top, they could mean the difference in determining our next president. Please join us during all or some of the times we have set aside by emailing “I want to win” to CallatHome@MittRomney.com.

Pass this info on to as many people as possible.

McCain must be stopped! bttt

President Bush ... privately expresses exasperation with Romney's hard-line stance on [illegal] immigration ...

That's the best endorsement Romney could hope to get. All the other leading candidates support open borders.

Romney agrees with 80% of US citizens on the border issue.

"McCain Republicans" Texas Governor Rick Perry and US Senator Kay Bailey Hutchinson are hindering effort to build our Texas fence.

I'm very disappointed in those two. John Cornyn is still holding fast for us.

I’m perplexed. Is this bush’s way of boosting Romney, or is he really so clueless about the base?

Look at the ‘sheeple’. See what they want. Dress accordingly. (We can always change the outfit, tomorrow.)

No candidate is good on immigration. McCain ranks at the bottom. I put Huckabee as next worse.

I agree with your first and second sentences, completely. I'm uncertain as to your last sentence....I'm not sure where to rank Huckabee (yet).

I have looked at his record and his platform, and what you say about him is false. So, who is your candidate?

I’m sorry you have decided to throw your vote away for a loser.

Does anybody still care what bush has to say on any domestic issue? I heard his “statement” Friday at the Hallmark plant, and he sounded retarded or something—almost a dead ringer for the old Will Farrell parody. What an embarrassment he has become.

I don’t see Ron Paul as a loser.

The loser is America because the GOP keeps sending out and supporting RINOs, and those who claim to be conservative keep voting RINO and spouting the “lesser of two evils” mantra.

If you can look at his record and not see liberalism then I have to assume that as far as your guiding principles go, you are lost in the wilderness.

As to "my candidate", in the general election I will always vote, first of all, for the candidate that is most pro-life since all liberty derives from the right to life given by the Author of Life. Secondly, the most conservative candidate. In the primaries I will always vote for a conservative because I reject liberalism and moderate-ism. I am not interested in being on the winning side. I am interested in being on the right side. After all, if I wished to be on the winning side in our culture I would have to be anti-Christian and a culture of death supporter.

When the Maryland primary rolls around I will vote for either Fred Thompson or Alan Keyes.

Well, dirty tricks, lies and deceit from the Crist/McCAin camp...why does this NOT surprise me one bit. McCAin is a clone of the Clintons......
